He was tough down the stretch though and didn't shy on contact. He needs to be a better defender with better motor. Overall it's a good game

It's more impressive than just that bit of statistical weirdness. +17 Is the highest +/- on the team and they only won by 5; without him, the team was -12 (in 14 minutes). Consider that he was high scorer on the team and was also the most efficient (Points per shot) of those with significant volume of shots. This while going 1 for 7 on threes. He gets that 3 pt shot going... There's a reason the spurs drafted him at 19, over Keldon who was their favorite SF prospect... (who they then got lucky to pick up at 29).
Yeah he was bad for the majority of the game. And his body language was even worse. I was watching him when he didn’t get the ball and if one of his teammates missed, was terrible.
22 pts, 15 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl's, 2 blks
So how do we trade for him?
"When asked about his performance in the fourth, Samanic stressed that he needs to be performing in all four quarters."It felt nice,” said Samanic “But it's what happens in the first three quarters because not every night is gonna be one where I can wait till the fourth quarter. It felt nice, but I gotta make sure to bring it in the first three quarters too."

Yeah too bad that #12 ain’t ours

Haven't been able to post my notes on the second half because of fucking power outages, but I do have to say it seems like his "hot spot" is from the middle where he posts up and he can do one of the following: drive to the basket, spin move, or just shoot it over his guy. He needs to start plays from there and not beg for the ball out on the perimeter where he is way too predictable. Hope he realizes this for the next game and we see more Luka posessions from mid-range posting up. Kind of like a LaMarcus Aldridge, if you will.
I like that Luka is showing his big men game. He is getting tougher and stronger, finishing with contacts. The only thing missing is his defense and better motor. I’m sure he’ll get there. But can he be a good shot blocker? He doesn’t really have the longest wingspans.
I liked his answer to the question. I missed the game but read through this thread and you guys pointed out what he said. He definitely has to stop letting stuff get to him when stuff isn’t going his way though. He is going to struggle even really getting minutes in the big leagues if this continues
Austin vs. Canton (Ohio) starting right now on ESPNU. Samanic out.
Any link on the Austin vs Canton game? Thanks.
I got it. It's on ESPNU. Spurs down 33-16. Where's Luka?
Wow down by 20
Luka sitting with with sprained finger on his right hand
Was down 25 pts, Tre leading the come back, only behind 12 pts now.
Keldon's brother Kaleb with Austin?
Only down 8pts, Kelly with 8pts 7 rebs in the half
Yeah he may be average years 3-4 then blow up in year 5/6 like Wood and Anderson. So people rushing may not see prime till year 6
Available non Spurs roster players that I like: Renfro, Kenny Williams, Cam Reynolds.
Any links please. Thanks.
Watchn Austin Spurs vs vipers. Tre Jones looks good! We have a great problem in our hands!
Mathis is the Patty Mills of this ball club. Just keeps chucking away
I wonder if the Spurs saw ahead and signed Kylor because he is a Poetl archetype and they wanted to see how Luka would flourish with Poetl but without actually playing with Poetl.
Seems Luka is more effective as the C and without Kylor on the floor with him.

I like Renfro's form and release. It's just not going in for him.
Very nice post move by Luka. He's using his body better on post moves.
Jones and Luka turning it up in the 4th...
Luka scores more when he's playing with a quick rim rolling big who shoots...because most of his (effective) moves come from midrange to inside.
However, the overall team defense is better when he's playing with an interior-only Center.
So, I guess Luka's future with the main team will vary between PF and C and is matchup dependent.
That's assuming he doesn't develop more perimeter skills. Right now his post moves >> perimeter moves.
Nice spin on Samanic. He's really developing those postup good
The Vipers early was killing from three but they’ve slowed down. On offense the only guy that’s showed up has been Luka.
I will say though, for him to be a stretch 4 his percentages haven’t been good at all in any level. I liked that he is posting up aggressively though
Luka spin move away from baseline into paint, draws foul
Woodard steal and slam!!!
Spurs take the lead.
First lead since the 1st quarter!!!!
You aren’t lying one bit on your assessment. I will say the defense doesn’t turn completely to crap when he is the 5 but it is better when he is at the 4 for this team.
His 3 point shooting hasn’t been good at all and that was supposedly one of the things that draft experts said he would build on because of his form. I know a few draft folks did point out what I said about his 3 point shooting with the fact that even in Europe he wasn’t that good shooting 3’s at any level he played.
that was too easy on Samanic
That zone is confusing the hell out of Austin. They did decent early in the game when Luka flashed to the free throw line and the defense collapsed on him. He made solid decisions from there.
great block by Woodard!!!!
Tre hits the FT: 104-101
It wouldn't be Spurs basketball if he didn't miss that :lol:lol
I agree, his 3 pt shooting hasn't been good. But I don't mind it much, I don't want him to become over-reliant on 3s and I sure don't want to see him turn into a 3 pt specialist because he's good at it. I do have to say the fact that there's room to improve AND Luka is finding other ways to score shows his excellent versatility.
He has improved his strength for sure but I think he still needs to get a little stronger. Doesn’t need to get too much bigger because it might hurt his quickness but maybe a bit more muscle.
yeah, maybe tweak his shot a little bit or work with him on his deep shot selection
Woodard came up big on defense at the end and Luka came up big on offense.

Spurs win again when Luka is in. This kid is just getting better and better. I like Woodard too, but who cares :lol
Missed the game, so would love your thoughts. Highlights showed Luka with some nice moves. How was his defense? Attitude?
He's got nice footwork and size. There's some good potential there. Reserved but getting more excited about this prospect.
It's good he's getting reps. hopefully he learns to become more efficient and sets his teammates up well.
offensively he was a big reason the team came back. He again came up big in the 4th quarter on that side of the ball but he did it posting up players and being aggressive.
he is doing way better boxing out for rebounds and has been getting more contested boards which is also good. He seems a bit more alert on off ball defense and he didn’t foul as much this game. He got beat by some smaller guys a couple of times off the dribble but he wasn’t totally blown by at any time I seen him getting switched on guards and wing players.
overall he was good but definitely can get better. Especially on helping hard on defense when he does help, knowing when to help defensively, not over helping on defense, finishing through contact and at the rim on offense, moving without the ball, and overall shot selection.
Saw a bit of the game. At time not just this game, Luka looks unstaoppable! His Spin move around the paint, like he easily getting pasted his defenders with. Its a scarly thought as he's still developing and figuring everything out.
Popovich rubbing off on Luka :lmao
Yep Poop still has not gotten over himself
The Austin Spurs is for SAN ANTONIO SUPRS DEVELOPMENT FIRST and wins second. If they agreed to bring Woodard on to the team because of some rule or agreement made prior to the Gubble scheme, it doesn't mean Woodard or ANYBODY NOT UNDER CONTRACT TO THE SPURS is supposed to get "spoonfed".
You RIDE OR DIE with SPURS CONTRACT PLAYERS FIRST and LAST (unless they have fouled out, have become injured, or died on the court)
When Luka, Tre, Quandary, Keldon, White, Dejounte.....ect to DANNY FUCKING GREEN are on the Austin SPURS(Toros), the coaching staff is told this and knows this pecking order of WHO GETS THE REPS!!!!
Furthermore, the idea of you or any of this so-called "fan base" would call a guy being competitive "being a baby" that here to for was getting ragged on for NOT BEING COMPETITIVE is BEYOND PONDEROUS bordering on TROLLING.
You're right, Drew. I'm trolling ;)
Nah, man. I'm 100% rooting for Luka.
And you're right, his "eagerness" for the ball is a welcome change from what we're accustomed to since DJ was drafted....
And DJ is actually a good comparison to what we're seeing with Luka. That ego we're seeing will transform into something beneficial for the Spurs. Luka wants it.
I guess it speaks more about my fears than it speaks for Luka's behavior ... I've been scarred by Nephew's actions and want guys who have A+ personalities.
Damn, I was doubting whether Luka would step up in the Gubble, but it looks like he's pretty solidly dominating every single game he's been taking part in. Of course, it doesn't mean it'll translate to the next level, but it's a really encouraging sign. The highlights looked good tonight as well, though they hardly tell the whole story anyways.
When's the Gubble supposed to end? Is there a chance we get to see Luka with the main squad this season, considering he probably won't come "up" until the GL games are over?
The Gubble is 15 games over 25 days, plus an eight team single elimination tournament, which it looks like the Spurs will be in. The 15 games is over March 6th, and an eight team tournament could be over in 5 days, even with a day off between rounds. Tre and Luka can be back for basically the whole second half.
Tre Jones 9.8 assists/game is pretty eye-popping!
They are both doing exactly what they are supposed to do, which is no surprise really. Spurs take development very seriously and are always playing the long game.
Honestly, I like ty and he was good on the show and laughed at my jokes.
Its 5 games vs dozens.
Lets not start sucking each others dicks just yet to quote the wolf from Pulp Fiction.
At least he hasn't gone full retard like lispy Jonas Clarke, on his Always Toros Podcast he was jizzing his pants over some fool at the end of the bench who was averaging 2 offensive boads in 3 minutes a game. Well Scrubs are gonna scrub(and scrub suposed sports analyst media are too) this dude gets more minuts, still gets like 3 boards.
There is a reason the coaches were only giving him 3 minutes Jonas, they may actually have better intel than youre eyetest or shit statitcall anlazation. (oh and if youre reading this jonas I was right about Mahomes Concusion..... dude was SHIT the rest of the playoffs maybe because he still was recovering from a consussion that prompeted a fencing stance )
Bottom line.... nice but its not the whole story.

OFFICIAL: We’ve acquired Galen Robinson Jr. from the available pool of #GLeague players already in Orlando. Galen played in 30 games (17 starts) with Austin last season. In a related move, the team has waived Malik Pope.

Dang that is what 3 players we waived and received 3 new players not sure that has ever happened in the past?
maybe not covid, maybe it's just all the players in one area so easy to swap around. Like I'm, sure Galen is someone they like more than pope and i'm sure players have seen that the team is basically a luka hype vehicle and know the spurs can't do any call ups this year. Less upside to being in the austin spurs this year even if the team is balling.
Any link for tonight’s game ?
Luka playing soft and sloppy so far.
My boy Renfro is shining. Displaying excellent vision, just hit a 3...
I haven’t heard anything about ANY positive tests in the Gubble. If they were positive, Austin wouldn’t be playing, they’d be in health and safety protocols. There is just a pool of players there to upgrade from who have cleared quarantine. Our latest pickup played with Austin last year, so he knows the system.
