For me the *merry/facetious* malice seems more real than pretended. Just saying. It kinda blows up the joke, for everyone who's not already in on it -- but maybe the OP intended all along to create the division, like a shibboleth, or a dog whistle.
Too bad nobody cared and there wasn't really any controversy. None that I could detect anyway. Mostly a bunch of huffy throat clearing and hand waving.
