Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
Two titles in seven years is a pretty good record. I agree with you about the perimiter players. It's the same shit year after year. Smitty, Hedo, Barry.
What I meant about the regular season winning percentage is that Pop's a very successful coach. Like I said, two titles in seven years is pretty good, weather you like it or not.
Now, let's not forget that the series only 2-2, not 4-2 Sonics. If we'll be axed by the Sonics, yes changes will be needed, but not in the coaching department. As much as I love Bruce Bowen, we cannot have a player play for 30+ minutes game after game and produce 2, 3, 4 stinkin points. I don't care about the defense. His ineffectivness to score and to be a threat is killing the Spurs.
But, Aggie even if I don't agree with you on Pop, we can both agree that this series isn't over so we should talk about changes when the season is over. Hopefully we both agree that Barry needs to step up or he should be traded, right?

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
Yes, let's fire our winningest coach ever.
Kind of like running off RC Slocum for Franchione. Frantastic!
Flip Saunders? Are you fucking kidding me? I know you've backtracked on that, but there is no excuse for mentioning Flip as a candidate to replace Popovich.
I normally respect your posts, aggie, but you are throwing up bricks here in this thread. How is Pop responsible for Barry playing completely differently than he has his entire career? How is it a discredit to Popovich that our two titles came in large part to great clutch three point shooting?
Does the fact that SEA won tonights game with ridiculous performances from Luke Fucking Ridnour and Damien "Who?" Wilkins mean that McMillan didn't outcoach Pop tonight?

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
Yeah, and what I mean about the regular season record is that it doesn't matter. You dont' get a ring for regular season winning percentage. You don't have a parade for regular season winning percentage. You don't throw a city wide party for regular season winning percentage. If you don't win in the playoffs, you underachieved.
I don't care if we trade Barry or not, it won't matter if Pop's playbook come playoff time is still going to fit on a postage stamp.
And yes, a coaching change is needed. We need an offensive guru. And seeings Pop's ego will never allow that to happen, there's only one thing left to do unfortunately.
As for the series: it's not over but it sure ain't going in the right direction. We kicked their ass in game 1, they closed the gap in game 2, barely won in game 3, and now kicked our ass in game 4. I don't like the trends at all.
I think it's obvious some people (like you) are content with the past. Others (like me) realize Tim is just now starting to hit his prime, where he will be for the next 5 years or so. Why is it unrealistic to expect more titles in Duncan's prime, or get upset that Pop doesn't appear to have enough offensive creativity to make it happen?
Look, I know Pop won't get fired if we blow this series. But he better hear loud and clear from management: win the fucking title next year, or you're out.
This shit is getting old (and Duncan and Ginobili aren't getting any younger, either).

If they lose Pop may take fall!!
I am not saying this will definately happen especially since he has won 2 titles, but pop may lose his job if they blow this series, especially with Phil Jackson out there this summer. Expectations are really high with this squad they have all the pieces to win it all in place. If they lose this series it is a monumental collapse of epic proportions. They are at close to full strength, they have the home court they are deeper more experienced and up 2-0, two of the three sonics stars have either not played or just plain sucked in this series and it is 2-2. If they lose Pop may take the fall and i know the players must be accountable as well but with jackson out there you never know. They are built to win titles now Duncan will not be in his prime forever they have to win now, when he is at his most dominant.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
i doubt he does.
But if he does, I wouldnt be opposed to it.
Phil Jackson would be numero uno on my list.
Pay him his 8 to 10 mill and bring him in.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
I think if a rumor even got out that we were thinking about firing Pop, Phil Jackson would be on the next plane to SA and then getting a ride over to Holt Cat headquarters.
Duncan, Manu, and Parker would be the best triumverate he ever coached, and I don't think we'd have to pay him a king's ransom to get him here, either.

Pop won't take the fall. He'll pin it all on Barry and GRob, and they'll be traded and not re-signed, respectively.
The SA media will be floated some stories about how they were cancers, and the stupid SA general public will eat it up.

I thought he wanted $10M/year no matter where he went.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
the plus side??? Jeanie Buss shows up at alot of home games, chick is smokin.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired

Well, when you're looking at either LA (Kobe the headcase) or NY (capped out until 2015), wouldn't you ask for some serious bling to put up with that shit? I know I would...
I think Parker, Manu, Tim, and Nazr would be a hell of a lot more attractive to him than Captain Colorado in LA or nothing on the front line in NY.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
If we win the title this year(which we will), we need to erect a Pop statue infront of the SBC center.
-
Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
What really scares the hell out of me is that the usual suspects who usually tell me to fuck off when I criticize Pop are now showing up to debate Phil Jackson's paycheck.
:depressed

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
Stupidest thread ever.
Pop isn't going anywhere. The Spurs are winning this series.
Grow a sac.
-
Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
have to disagree TIMVP.
We are not winning this series.
Typical series, no adjustments, no end of the defense or offense in sight.
Just like last year all over agian.
It fucking sucks.

go ahead.
I hope im wrong.
But from tonight's game, what shows me anything different????
Nothing.. Aggie was right, maybe Pop has been the problem, and some lucky shooting here and there have saved our championships.
Would like for someone to give me a REAL reason to believe, I just dont have it.

So after 10 years of defending Pop, you jump sides?
Classic.
Believe because the Spurs will bounce back.
Believe.

Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
I'll be more than happy to eat crow on this one if you're right LJ, but I just don't think it happens.
We're back to the same shit that got us beat vs. LA. They are zoning the lane on defense, we still force everything to Tim. They double team him before he gets the ball, and our guards still try to get the ball to him at Pop's insistence.
On the weakside, they have our shooters zoned up, guarding 3 guys with 2 defenders.
And we run the same stupid shit over and over and over and over and over and over again.
I agree with you though - Pop isn't going anywhere. He's got too much power in this franchise, and after Kevin O'Keefe no one in the press has the balls to call him out.
That, and he'll hang it all on Brent and GRob, we'll be reminded after the series that Tim, Nazr, Devin, and Rasho were all hurt, Buck and Ludden will explain it all away for Pop, and we'll come back and piss it all away again next year.
-
Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
If Jackson is available I say get him even if we do win the title. The guy knows how to coach superstars and he can teach defense AND offense.
Tim&Manu almost=kobe and shaq only without the gigantic egos
-
Re: If we blow this series Pop should be fired
believe just to believe is bullshit.
after 10 years?? well, maybe reality slaps you in the fuckin head finally after an embarassing loss on the road were we should be talking about the Western Conference Finals, instead of playing 2 more fucking games.
