My one caveat with Phil is that he has to bring Tex. Without him at Phil's side, we're no better than we are today.
I'd settle for Pop hiring Magnano (Argentina) to slide in the assistant's chair and design a new offense than can utilize the strengths of our players on offense, instead of expecting them all to shoot like Steve Kerr all of a sudden.
This is a better idea than Phil Jackson/Tex Winter combination. I'm not sure if you guys understand the Tim Duncan-Gregg Popovich dynamic. And I'm not sure that Phil Jackson would mesh with Duncan. Are you? Just add a couple good assistants to mix up the offense.Quote:

The Spurs would never sign Phil Jackson. They'd either go with Carlesimo at about one-tenth of what Jackson would cost or perhaps a younger guy either in-house like a Mike Bud or perhaps bring Mike Brown back.
I mean, Holt Cat et al didn't sell the team, so stop the crack addled Phil Jackson to SA bullshit. As a hypothetical it's fucking stupid. Put forth as a serious argument it's beyond the pale as this team is not losing this series you weak sister Spurs fans.
Magnano? The same guy who is no longer the Argentine national coach and Manu said that he didn't matter one way or another?
No thanks.
Kori, in an ideal world we hire Magnano.
But I don't think Pop's ego would ever let it happen. He's pretty stubborn about his system, and bringing in Magnano to run the offense would be admitting that he as a coach couldn't get it done at that end of the floor.
And I don't see that happening. The only way it could would be if management dictated it but 1) Holt isn't that basketball smart and 2) it would really create a negative environment on the bench and probably a power struggle.
I'd like Mike Brown as an option too.
LJ, it's not like Magnano got canned down in Argentina. He got hired to coach a team in Europe.
Who cares what P_p_vich thinks? We need to have at least an average offense.Right now we have none.
Fuck Popovich. I have never liked the prick.
He has lost way more championships than he should've fucking won. He hasn't validated shit yet. His team is the favorite every year, but somehow seems to fuck it up.
Someone needs to take the blame... Its about time he or Parker take the fall.
All I know is they better come out with some whoop ass for Game 5 or I will personally call and/or write every media outlet in the US calling this mofo out.
Baloney this you prick.
you will not.Quote:

Go back to jackin off to your vince carter rookie card.
Popovich sure does seem to pose an enigma every now and then. On one hand, he must get some credit for the defense first mentality that is in every player on that team.
But, his game management quite often leaves alot to be desired. I was at game 4 tonight with Matt from nbaspurs.blogspot and one of THE glaring Spurs lowlights of the game was seeing a lineup on the floor many a time that only had one of the Spurs big 3 on the court at the same time. Duncan was played sparingly at times when he was abusing the Sonics frontcourt... and keeping Barry in over Manu. Questionable lineups throughout the game. Add that to his habit of holding back from calling timeouts during opponent runs and you can somewhat understand why this topic is on comment #86 and counting.
That reminds me...
At one point tonight our lineup was:
Beno
Barry
Bowen
Rasho
Horry
Why?
Fuck off...Quote:

Yeah, squandering year after year. Two championships. Quick, someone check and see how many rings are on Kevin Garnett's fingers. Or Karl Malone's.Quote:

Ghost, we're two games away from squandering 5 of Tim's 7 seasons. Like I said, maybe some of you will get a frickin' clue when Tim Duncan retires with two rings. And that would be a fucking waste.
We're paying Tim, Tony, and Manu over $200 million dollars, don't have we have a right to expect more than underachieving in the playoffs every year?

Sure, Pop made some mistakes in the rotations last night, but tell me, how do you keep Luke from hitting those insane shots?
He was like a man possessed. :wow
You just don't run off your winningest coach ever* because of bad beats in the playoffs. If you can name one team in any sport that has done this and then became a dynasty, I'd appreciate it.
*Unless you are Penn State Football
:lmao THAT PRETTY MUCH SUMS IT UP.I BET THOSE 2 WISH THEY WERE AT THE SAME PLACE WE ARE..GET A FUCKING GRIP PEOPLE IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING OVER YET.Quote:

I wonder if Laker fans were having this same "debate" when they lost two years in a row. "Fire Phil Jackson now, he can't win with Shaq and Kobe!"
Now they want him back. Be careful what you wish for, Spurs fans.
"If we blow this series Pop should be fired"
What's this "WE" shit? Are you drawing a paycheck from the Spurs?
If we blow (Seattle away) this series Pop (haters) should be fired (and beaten with reeds for being insolent).
AHF, I'd hate to know what you thought about R.C. Slocum. He changed his offensive philosophy and still got run out of town by haters like you.
That's dumb. You don't win titles for regular season wins. The ring is the thing, to steal an expression from my alma mater.Quote:

SWC - I supported RC up until his last season. In hindsight there are some incredible parallels between RC and Pop though - both hang their hats on defense, and don't care about the offense as long as it doesn't screw up enough to the point that the defense can't win it. Which is exactly the reason why change needs to happen.
I really just want us to bring in someone to coach the offense (even Phil had a wing man in Tex), but Pop's ego would never let it happen.
Like I said, some of you people are content just to win a lot of regular season games and then blow it in the playoffs. If that's what you call a "winner", you and Pop can have your consolation ribbons, whenever the parade is that those get handed out.
If winning an NBA title isn't important, we never should have invested in Tony, Manu, and Tim like we did.
But we've invested over $200 million in those three, and I think we are owed better than playoff washouts year after year for the same reasons.
Mad Dog. This is Pop's team. He's coach. He's president of bball operations. It's his system, his players, his coaching, his practices, you name it. Doesn't some responsibility lie there?Quote:

Oh, that's right, when we win, the players are winning despite Pop.
And when we lose, it's all his fault.
Or lemme guess, you think it's not Pop's fault when he brings in guys with one skill set and completely breaks down their game offensively to be another Pop's system outside shooter doomed to failure in the playoffs.
So be it.
Look, as I've said, when the team loses, the team takes responsibility.
Are you actually saying that Pop hasn't put together and coached a good team?
I never said Pop is perfect. My contention is, you're not going to find a better coach out there. Except maybe Phil Jackson or Larry Brown. But they actually have their own problems. Jackson won't call time-outs during a run. Brown is "defense first" also. I don't know, it would be kind a cool to see Brown return to San Antonio.
Bottom line, Pop will not be fired. But if he is, then we will rue the day. Because, according to you, if Pop is responsible for the losses, then he is also responsible for the Titles. Who else will be able to win us another banner before Tim retires?
What ever happened to accountabilty for execution? How can you say Pop's offense sucks when the players did such a bad job of executing it?
When the players execute Pop's offense effectively and we win by 20, nobody's bitching. If his offense was so ineffective, the Spurs would lose even when executing it correctly, right?
...but after every loss, Chicken Littles abound.
Everyone's a fan after a big win.
Adversity exposes your true colors.
In times of crisis, do you:
a) panic, question all your beliefs
b) stay true to your basic system of beliefs
For instance, the belief that the Spurs are a team capable of winning the championship. Either you believe that or you don't. If you don't (but try to act like you do), times of crisis will expose that lack of belief. If you truly believe, nothing will change that. The Spurs could lose game 5, and I'd still believe that they would win the series, and the championship. I might end up being wrong. Sometimes people achieve far more than they should be capable of achieving. The power-lifter can't lift the car, but the mom who's child is trapped underneath can. Sometimes that's just the way it works. If the Sonics pull off this kind of feat, so be it. That doesn't change my belief that the Spurs are capable of winning it all. I'll always believe they are. That doesn't mean that the Sonics are a better team. It just means that they're playing better right now, whether it be due to adrenaline, momentum, or whatever. Teams make runs. Sometimes average teams make incredible runs. It happens.
The point is, what you believe is what you believe, and these principles are static. Kinda like being a thief. Either you steal, or you don't. A prime opportunity to steal isn't going to make a non-thief steal. But a thief who tries to act like he's not a thief will take advantage of the opportunity and revert to his true character if the opportunity is ripe. You'll live by your principles.
This is the prime opportunity for believers and non-believers alike. If you truly believed, a loss won't change that. If you never really believed, truly believed, then a loss is the perfect opportunity for the thief to be outwardly what he really was all along.
