Did the Spurs brass overpay for his services as well?

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
Hey buford :flipoff. Thats making the trade for rj last year and resigning him for this many years. Rc is should have known this guy was not going to fit the spurs system. The two requirments for sf is the ability to shoot the three and defend but rj cant do either. This guy just got the best of the front office. Turns out rj's agent is pretty damn good. Four more years of rj.:depressed

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
Had a bad season but still better than what we had- a washed up defender. Should have a better season.

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
You can't fault the FO for the RJ trade. It was a great value trade that just so happened to turn out pretty damn bad unfortunately.
They made the trade for a logical fit and with the best intentions. They were trying to field a legit winner.

Bowen was a far better defender even in his last year than RJ is now. Don't blaspheme Bowen's name by calling him a "washed up defender."

Yeah ..now we have the same thing. The only difference is that the washed up player is gonna make 40m in the next 4 years and haven't done crap for the Spurs so far.

Not the same when Jefferson came in as the 3rd or 4th scoring option from being being the 1st or 2nd option on other teams to a player that never was an option What did you want him to lead the team in scoring 12 pts ain't to bad had some good games but should have done better for 15 million.

RJ will surprise people this year. He has no pressure and face it, no one expects much from him now. As a result, he will play much more comfortable and many on ST will be eating crow.

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
How many teams had a player who was their 4th option who averaged over 12ppg, 4.4 reb. and a couple of assists in 31 minutes.
He may not be great in any one area, but a fourth banana isn't supposed to be.
He'll be backed up by some young firebrand defenders and shooters who'll get the remaining minutes of each game so that position will probably be pretty solid.
Would it be nice to have another consensus 1st team All-star at the SF? Yes. Is that realistic in today's market? NO.
Go Spurs!

10m a year is gonna carry some expectations I would assume.

Matt Barnes averaged similar numbers in 26 minutes a contest and got paid
5X less roughly.

Another great post.
As the 4th option 12 pts, 4 rebs is not bad. Plus the guy has what few players have the ability to do...the ability to get to the basket and finish and/or draw fouls. Isnt' that what Spurs fans have been wanting up until we signed RJ last year?
Artest as the 4th option on the Lakers averaged less and so did other players on other teams with less success than the Spurs.

I do not care about the stats watch the games and he is not impressive. On offense he cant shoot so the defender leaves wide open to help out on timmy or a penetrating guard. His defender is often sitting in duncan's lap. On defense he sucks as well. He has no energy and seems unable to guard anyone with any skill.
As for your other teams:
Magic-Howard,Nelson,Carter,Lewis, Pietrus all those are better than rj and barnes isn't much worst
Lakers-kobe,gasol,artest,odom,bynum all better
Miami-big three+ haslem is a better fourth banana than rj
Rockets-yao,martin,brooks,scola, ariza, battier better than rj

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
I hope RJ earns his keep this year and plays more consistent but he is soft as q tip cotton.
-
Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
who has defined rj as the 4th banana anyway? he is our starting small forward. that is it. at times he may be the 4th option on the floor and at others the first or second. declaring him the 4th banana seems a bit too restrictive and narrow visioned to me.

1. Most people were thrilled at getting RJ. Definitely disappointed in how he played this past season.
2. It's clear from the contract details emerging that the Spurs had a deal in place prior to RJ opting out so that they'd get down under the luxury tax penalty and have some flexibility to go out and sign some additional players.
Don't blame R.C. Him, Pop, and TD all signed off on acquiring RJ last summer. The re-signing this year was obviously more of a Holt decision (get under the lux tax) coupled with front office need for some salary cap flexibility.
There wasn't anyone better or comparable to RJ that we were going to get with 2.3 million of the MLE we had left after Splitter.
We all just need to hope that RJ has the typical second year uptick seen once players get more corporate knowledge in our system.

Re: RC Discusses Re-Signing of Richard Jefferson
If he's able to knock down his open threes i'll be happy. hopefully Pop told him to work on it over the summer to try and get his % closer to where it was with the Bucks. If he's not able to stretch to floor he should b the sixth man and start anderson. He could be one of the better sixth men in the league.
