Barnes to Lakers or Cavs

WojYahooNBA Unless Cleveland raises multi-year offer that starts around $3.5M, Matt Barnes will sign a 1-year, $1.7M deal with Lakers, sources tell Y!

Spurs don't need him. They have RJ...and it's his second year.

For those who don't keep track of what everyone thinks. I wouldn't have noticed 20 minutes ago.

They have to get another veteran. What are they gonna do, play the guys they draft (or "develop":lol) over several years? Those guys are just minimum money roster filler.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Jefferson is way better than Barnes.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Good signing by the lakers and the lakers bench will have a lot of depth.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
As much as I hate the Lakers, something about Artest and Barnes on the same team intrigues me.

Now that would be a good thread. Although I have to admit I often fall for it, we have got to stop daydreaming that these young guys we keep "developing" for 2 or 3 years are ever going to pay off big time. If we are lucky, their ceiling is end of rotation or situational players.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Barnes doesn't want to be here. How hard is that to understand. Of course he will go play with the Lakers...they just won the whole thing.

Sad that the Spurs have wasted so much young talent that fans can't even tell I was being facetious.

Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
How many teams has Matt Barnes played for in the past five years? This guy is damaged good thus why he draws no interest from the Spurs. Perhaps, the Lakers with Kobe on board can have a better chance of dealing with Barnes.

Barnes (at 1.7m for 1 year) > Jefferson (at 40m for 4 years). Lakers get depth and cheap rental. If he doesn't work out, they've only lost 1.7m and they let him loose. Spurs has already had a 1-year failed experiment - why throw good money after bad.

Congrats on signing another 30+ year old player. The Lakers are quickly becoming the oldest and least athletic team in the league with no young talent to develop.

But Jefferson really is going to grab 3.7 boards in 31 minutes while Barnes grabs 5.5 in about oh 25min.
I approve, RC.

Since when do the Lakers develop talent, they just buy up everybody else's talent.

So you're a lakerfan.
Makes sense, Flabby.
Why don't you pretend Barnes wanted to come to SA for the next ten years and that Jefferson is supposed to be a rebounder?
Throw an alternate reality party where fans vote who coaches NBA teams.
Start a campaign.
Make a photoshop of you marrying 21_blessings.
Douche about with horrible, horrible nicknames.

If he lasts more than a season there, I will be impressed.

Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Yeah this is a false argument because Barnes was never going to come here, especially not for less than $2M. Not that it doesn't mean the Spurs grossly overpaid for RJ...but it's not a realistic comparison of contract versus talent.

If Barnes plays for a Championship team (ref aided albeit) while Pops getting asscleaned in the 1st or 2nd round again, I will be too.

True, while the Spurs used to have vets wanting to come here for a title shot (Ms. Finley) now most if not all will say no way no how.

+1. This is the best post in the thread. People can think this is a bad thing for the Lakers but they're just kidding themselves. They also thought Artest would be a bad thing. I read threads on here how Artest would self destruct the Lakers this year. Didnt happen. The Lakers are on the verge of another three peat and just got way deeper if they get Barnes. Dont kid yourself.

Matt Barnes has agreed in principle on a two-year, $3.6 million deal with the Lakers, league sources tell Y! He's expected to sign tonight.

Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs

Cavs wouldn't raise Barnes' offer beyond $7 million guaranteed over 2 seasons, sources say. Lakers expect to receive a signed deal tonight.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Artest and Barnes are setting a trend here.
Fight with Kobe. Then join him the next season.

He is going to take 3.6mil/2yrs over 7mil/2yrs? Man winning over money he is a TERRIBLE PERSON. I would never want that type of player on the spurs. Never.
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
He did say he wanted to play for a contender...
-
Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
So what game do you guys expect this team so self implode with Artest, Bryant, and Barnes all on the same team? Its like the lakers mixed water with electricity and now their throwing in a nuke.

Yeah, and don;t forget that Kobe tried to talk Raja Bell into joining the Lakers too. The same guy that clothes-lined Kobe when he played for the Suns.
It's like Kobe talks Mitch K into signing anyone who's had the guts to stand up to him on the court. Guess it makes life easier for him, when they decide "if you can't beat him, join him."

Barnes just signed a contract with the fakers for less $$$. He wanted to play on a contender and stated he would take less $$ to do so. He also wanted assurance of a steady gig/minutes. With the lakers he may not have steady minutes. However with the spurs he would have had a starting role and for the same $$$ I would bet had Popazit called him a week ago when he was looking for a job he would have been on a plane to SA pronto.
And what do you mean it's not a "realistic" comparison? They both play the same position and put up basically the same #'s last year, though Barnes was for more efficient.

God yah. Anyone that would turn down a chunk of $$$ in order to fulfill a lifelong dream is not spurs material. Thank god we dodged that bullet.

Yep, the Lakers biggest weakness (only weakness) was depth... The superteams are forming now, and as someone said it will only be that much harder for a small market team on the decline to stay competitve. :depressed

Re: Barnes to Lakers or Cavs
Its nice to see the Head Case that the Spurs don't pursue continue to misbehave. It should be interesting to see Ron-Ron and Barnes both keeping the LA fans entertained/distracted.
