Do we another big for insurance?
Do we need another big to play if injuries occur?
Some good free agent options are still available like:
Etan Thomas: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/player...e?playerId=851
Kris Humphries: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/player...?playerId=2433
Josh Boone: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/player...?playerId=2990
All of them are pretty athletic and can guard mobile 4s and C's too
But what do u guys think?

I think you need to stop making threads.

Re: Do we another big for insurance?
Bonner/Splitter/TD/Dyess/Blair is enough imo.

Bonner is Bonner, which means if he aint making 3s he's no better than anybody sitting in the stands.
Also you always need someone you could play at any moment just in case someone has a bad night or there's a bad match-up
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
If they do get another big it's going to be one that doesn't mind dressing in a suit every night until called upon. They don't have enough room on the active roster to dress out a 6th big every night. If Etan Thomas or another vet like that doesn't mind doing that than I could see a vet min. signing for a big. I could see Melvin Ely being the option if he's still available.
I think Ratliff knew he could play last season and dressing in a suit on certain nights didn't make him the happiest camper which lead to him ultimately being traded for a bag of chips.
But then the financial side comes into play. Where they stand on the luxury tax line might have a big say in signing another player that might not even play.

Shit, that should be bonner, actually those guys I mentioned above bring more value than bonner to the spurs

Bonner will be getting over 3mil next year. No way he sits behind the bench.

Dyess and TD are older, not crippled. Dyess played 21mpg, TD 31mpg. Their minutes are closely monitored. Age does not have a direct effect on injury(Ask Griffin, Oden, and Bynum) and if they do pop is more than ready to rest them/sit them.
Blair's ACLs have not inhibited his Arm-removing or rebounding abilities as of recently.
Bonner forces a big further away from the paint, especially when he makes his shots.
The NBA is a game of Match-ups. They match-up decently with most teams, and if they don't Pop makes adjustments. Size != Talent

I was thinking more in the terms of we still need a guy that can guard mobile athletic bigs (lamar odom, Dirk, David west, ect.) and we still don't have that, the guys I mentioned could help in that department

Blair was a beast last season. Now that he has one year under his belt, I expect him to contribute even more.

Fortunately, we have a coach that knows how to play ok, Team defense I guess. :rolleyes
My biggest issue is whether we'll be able to pick up that aspect of the Spurs game, team defense that is. The mobile bigs are only a problem once the get in the paint, that causes the defense to poop all over itself. If that could be remedied then those bigs won't be an issue.
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
In fact, team defense, I think is one of the things Pop is high on Splitter for.
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
You are right about team defense, but this is the NBA, if you can't play decent to good individual defense it will hurt your team defense. If one person is constantly getting burned someone has to help, which leaves someone else open for a shot, plus when your team has to constantly has to help on a person it hurts rebound positioning. If you saw what the suns did to us with their mobile bigs, it was because their mobile bigs were too athletic for any of our bigs to match-up with, which lead to a lot of openings.

Actually, their bigs we're taking advantage of the fact that every single outside shooter was hitting their shots. Dragic, JRich, Hill, all of them were knocking down shots. That spread the floor, opened the driving lanes allowed dump off to Duhmar'e for easy shots, and rebounds. He only lead his team in points 2 out of the 4 games.

Re: Do we another big for insurance?
We could probably use a 2nd Small Forward more than a 6th big at this point...
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
bonner should have been the insurance big this year but lets not sugar coat this offseason it appears pop is losing his greatness, and has become nelson of the warriors w/ a franchise player. other than that hes made some ridiculous moves the past 2yrs. from what i hear R.C/assis coach Bud/Demps had alot to do with blair/anderson/tiago splitter/hill so those were the real recruiters. before people go psycho
i dont count dick jeff as a stupid move because it had great potential and still in a way does. but everything else pop has done is pretty strange and sad. i want to say bonner w. play behind blair&Dice but deep down we all know what the chances of that are!
Mark my words if he pulls his inconsistent tampering of the lineup, small ball, deprive the talented youth with upside to play bonner (his last marriage) there will be even more of a "crucify him!!!" this season theres no excuse for Rj playing power forward and blair playing center. or removing the player who brought you back from a 20pt deficit to send in a bench warmer throwing airballs in 4thQ to lose the game!?!?!?!?!? if this all continues we should give coach Bud a shot, to me this is do or die for coach pop not to demand a ring just a better method in which to coach.
I do believe in respecting coach pops decisions but there comes a time when he has to think of respecting the FANS/players. Yes im aware of who pop is and what hes done for this city, but theres no reason/excuse for his actions as of late and this year will tell me if hes officially lost his mojo. i know this is blasphemy here but we need him to be in allstar for as well thats all i ask
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
So...we went from not/needing a 6th big to hating on pop...?
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
I don't know if we "do" another big for insurance. I don't know about your sexual orientation but I prefer to do pretty women instead of bigs. But it's up to you buddy what you do in your free time.
OT:
Splitter, Duncan, McDyess, Bonner, Blair is a solid rotation. If one should go down due to injuries the Spurs will sign someone. Otherwise not.

Re: Do we another big for insurance?
Lorenzen Wright could probably step in and do a better job than Bonner.

yeah that wasnt the right place for it, but it is kinda frustrating to know if we had an athletic 7fter would he be played at all! even at the 6th big man spot???? this is what hurts "damn near everyone of my feelings"

Everyone copes differently. Some use jokes others use humor.
Everyone dies, no need to be so sensitive.:wakeup

You really think that had something to do with coping rather than trolling?
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
We should sign Ryan Richards dammit! 6th big is just a back-up, he's a project who we drafted, and he's the cheapest option, leaving us money to spend elsewhere

I think you went too off base and being too sensitive bout the whole comment.
My Take:
"Dying is like getting audited by the IRS--something that only happens to other people ... until it happens to you."
--JEROME P. CRABB
I'm done.

The comment itself is not really the problem. It's the timing. Replace Lorenzen Wright with Eddie Griffin and people would share a laugh. Maybe I am too biased because of my work but that doesn't change the fact that I find it classless.

Trolling? I was being serious. I used to live in Memphis and am a fan of Wright. The place he was found is a place I still pass often to go play church league ball. Get off your high horse.

He's also going to get more playing opportunity where he is, he won't contribute here anyway, and not signing him leaves the Spurs that much more money to spend elsewhere.
-
Re: Do we another big for insurance?
At this point, not signing a player makes the Spurs several million dollars.

Insurance for what? I don't think there's enough minutes to distribute among what we already have.

Nah, that's the problem in every country. Big breweries produce beer which tastes like dishwater - especially in America - but damn the small the beer produced by small breweries is just perfect.

As long as you don't want to move Blair to the SF, we're good.
