I do not care about next year... This year was the year to win the SB with Aikman as the color commentator in the SB... next year will be Michaels and Collinsworthless... the next is even worse with boring ass Nantz and Phil Simms... winning either of the next 2 SBs will be as valuable to me as a moldy loaf of Great Value bread. This is the end

Re: All Inclusive Cowboys Thread
Dak Prescott was fantastic for a rookie and he will get better and better with time. The Cowboys will win a SB with him at QB.
Totally unrealistic to expect anymore than what we saw in 2016. Like the Raiders, great time to be a Cowboys fan. And it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a Cowboys vs Raiders SB in the next 3-5 seasons.

So...grounding that ball at 1st and 10. Hindsight is 20/20. But was that a clear mistake at the time? I'm thinking yes. With the timeouts, I'd rather have run Zeke up the middle or look for a short pass. Would have taken time off the clock and also given 3 plays to get 10 yards instead of 2. Might have allowed the Cowboys to get a TD there.

Of course it was a mistake. Jason Garret is a moron. He's the biggest idiot in coaching. Why the fuck would you waste a down when you have a timeout left? It was 1st and 10 on the 40 iirc and you had the packers defense on their heels. Why the fuck would you stop the clock for absolutely no reason? It was the perfect time to go hurry up with a couple of shots into the endzone. Cowboys fans shouldn't even get excited about the team for as long as Garrett is the head coach.

only 22 carries for Zeke, too.

Yeah. The 22 carries by itself doesn't bother me. But it seemed that there were some pretty good times to give him the ball when they didn't. Especially in the 2nd half when GB looked tired and he was ripping off big gains.
I haven't confirmed this but on the radio, they said that Zeke never carried the ball on 2 consecutive downs. If that's true, that's pretty ridiculous playcalling.

I think he did at least once that I remember, everyone at the pub commented on it. He should have carried it at least 30 times imo. Sitting him week 17 to give him a rest and only 22 carries is just dumb.

I think Garret tries to outsmart everyone to the team's detriment. One of the best O-lines and Rbs in football. Run the damn ball. And from what I remember, I think they may have only passed to Zeke once. The main reason their defense looked decent this year was the O was able to keep them off the field. Not sure why you have a 13-3 record and decide to switch things up. Their passing game is OK but it should be used as a compliment to the run. Not the other way around.

I don't have a problem with that based on the circumstances of the game. When you're trying to make up a 3-possession deficit, the clock is not your friend. The hole they dug forced them to pass more, plus the Packers were loading up at the line of scrimmage and Dez and other receivers had one on on coverage.

True, but in several 3rd and 2's in the second half it wouldn't have hurt to run the ball.

Re: All Inclusive Cowboys Thread
I hope Free is cut. Weak link on the line and he's aging. Lael Collins will take that spot.
Trade Romo for a few good draft picks.
Jaylon Smith will be a beast next year; word is he will be playing this coming year according to stuff I've read (his damaged nerve, deep fibular, which caused foot drop is regenerating).
For the love of God, please add at least one quality pass rusher to go with Irving. And add one reliable corner to be lining alongside Scandrick.
-
Re: All Inclusive Cowboys Thread
Shitty thing is the schedule is brutal next year. Absolutely brutal. We'll see how they respond to adversity in the road even more so next year.

They need a brutal schedule. Not that weak shit they played this season. I wouldn't even mind a losing season as long as Garrett gets exposed for the fraud that he is.

I still think the Boys have a 10-11 game win season. They will play the AFC West along with division winners so it should be dicey tbh
Tbh, I'm upset with Garrett but more so with the coordinators. I have no idea what the fuck kind of game Linehan called. The Boys almost won the game but none of it had to do with coaching. Shit, Dom Capers straight up almost gifted the Boys the game along with the Boys talent showing.
Maranelli did about as much as he could with the scrubs that made up this defense. Truth is if you are to defeat the Pack, you have to have very disciplined DB's and some semblance of a pass rush more occasionally than not. Both things the Cowboys lacked.

Free isn't a bad backup if cheap. Look at what happened with Collins injury this year.. had we cut Leary things could have been a lot different on that side.
Agreed with Romo, but hopefully the Cowboys wanting to give him a consolation gift in shipping him to a good destination doesn't limit our return..
Charles Tapper and Jaylon Smith are gonna really boost the defense next year for us if healthy.. and hopefully that brittle piece of shit Claiborne is done, he has proven he can't take the rigors of an NFL season

The spike didn't bother me.
The call on 3rd and 2 did. They should have ran. In that situation you take a couple of shots to the end zone. At the worst kick the field goal with no time left for Rodgers to come back and beat you.

they passed on 3rd and 2 on the first drive too :/ I think it ended up being 5-6 3rd and 2's and they ran once

I think you lost me. If they spike the ball on 1st, and give to Zeke on 3rd, then they've only got one shot to go end zone. I'd have liked to see them take a shot on 1st instead of spiking the ball. If it's to the middle of the field, then use the TO if they don't get to the end zone. And then plan from there. They could always spike it on 3rd down.

So what do you all prefer? Sign Terrance Williams or Brice Butler and draft a WR? Sign them both? Let them both walk and risk depleting our WR depth with rookies?

I'd resign Williams if he'd agree to a reasonable price. He's been serviceable. I don't think that'll be the case, #2 WRs have been commanding a lot of money in free agency as of late.
Regardless if he were to walk or not, I'd still draft a WR with KR/PR skills. We need a playmaker back there. The Whitehead experiment needs to end already.

Yeah, Williams come down to price.. Butler has been inconsistent, but would probably flourish at #2. Agreed with Whitehead, dude sucks and brings nothing to the table on special teams or the gadgets they run for him.

Not sure why anybody expects either of these JAGs to amount to anything. Same old story every year and I don't see why it will change next season either.
It can't be a Cowboys offseason without addressing their front 7 help by picking up somebody off of Jacksonville's practice squad while drafting a "high risk/high reward" player in the middle rounds who will never be available due to either continuous suspensions or injuries.
And then, like clockwork, once we get to those June OTAs and these Practice All Pros have a few impressive hits on the tackling dummies, the articles will come out claiming Pro Bowl/HOF potential getting the fans all excited again.

The process of rebuilding the front-7 begins with letting JAGs who have been here too long like Jack Crawford and Ryan Davis go. Also, Anthony Hitchens and Justin Durant (good guy, but he's too old and injured).
Lawrence and Irving are both going to be on contract years, so that could be very good for us in 2017. The best of the two gets a long-term deal, the other gets to walk.
I'm interested in possibly ditching the 4-3 and going with a good 3-4. Blitz more but have athletic guys on the line who can play short coverage. Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee together should be a wrecking ball together at ILB if they're both healthy.

It's well-deserved. Because Zeke was the product of the best run blocking OL in the NFL, but they're barely top 10 in pass protection IMO. They're the same OL and WR corps as last year and Dak took the Cowboys from 4-12 (3-1 with Romo, 1-11 combined with the other shitshow at QB) last year to 13-3 this year and changed the outlook of the franchise from gloomy (Romo is near the end and oft-injured) to extremely optimistic (OK we lost this year, but we're likely going to be SB contenders in the NFC for the next 15 years)... That's on Dak.
Green Bay has the best pass blocking OL in the NFL, though they're not particularly great run blockers especially in the middle.

Zeke was seriously considered an MVP candidate this year, Dak wasn't. That alone should've given the ROY to Zeke.
While McFadden ran for just under 1100 yards last season, Zeke's production in 15 games was a clear improvement and can't just be credited to the OL. Zeke should've won.
-

Mine would have been
1) Ryan
2) Carr
3) Rodgers
4) Stafford
5) Dak/Zeke
Particularly if we're just talking regular season. Dak and Zeke feed off each other and Zeke's 400+ extra yards this season can also be attributed to having a competent QB in place unlike last year. DeMarco Murray had nearly 300 yards more than Zeke in 2014 behind the same OL, but somehow Romo was still considered for MVP over him?
Pretty Boy finishing #2 is an absolute fraud. He played in 12 games in the most "system-y" team in sports and the team was 3-1 and pretty damn dominant without him. His job is to throw short passes all game from the pocket while guys like Ryan and Rodgers actually take risks and air it out. Derek Carr is my #2 if you're talking regular season only, because that team was just flat out horrid without him and we all saw that.

That's exactly the worst kind of move we can make. We might as well bring back Ware who knows the system and will cost a quarter of Mario Williams' price. I'd rather have Ware as a DL coach, but I'd rather sign him as a player over Williams for that price tag for an old dude with nothing left in the tank.

Romo to hit free agency. Mediocre strong safety Barry Church overpaid to the Jacksonville Jaguars. We have 2 fine strong safeties behind him and a third who's an up and comer in Frazier, no surprise by us. But we absolutely need to keep at least one of the CBs, Wilcox, Terrell McClain.

Barry Church is that guy who you never notice on defense because he doesn't make glaring mistakes but is not a playmaker either. He'd be fine if he was surrounded by Pro Bowlers but as the "leader" of the defense? This defense needs a major overhaul. Other than Sean Lee, I could really careless who we lose. Nobody is a difference maker by themselves. Wilcox has some highlight reel hits where he doesn't wrap up but that's about it. Not disciplined, average at best in coverage, and notoriously poor with tackling angles. Free sucks too.

Sean Lee is the leader. Church was a solid tackler and a slow speed, below average athlete. Wilcox had a walnut for a brain.
Jaylon, we also need one of DLaw or Irving to come around this year to be the double digit sack guy, the other probably doesn't get his contract renewed next year tbh

I don't think either of them will get double digits. Irving looks really good at times but so do a lot of NFL players over short stretches. I just don't see anything special in him.
Lawrence atleast seems like a guy who will consistently give you 5-7 sacks a season if he remains healthy along with solid run support. I guess he's like the Barry Church of defensive ends if he can stay healthy for a season. Solid, balanced player but not somebody who will keep you up at night as an opposing team's offensive coordinator

Solid, balanced player but not somebody who will keep you up at night as an opposing team's offensive coordinator
we already have a waaaaaaaaaay overpaid 5-7 sack a season run stopper in TCrawford, we don't need another one. What we need desperately is that 15+ a year x-factor guy who is a threat to get a big hit, sack, pressure, turnover, tackle behind the line, or deflection on every given down.
What about Mayowa? If he had played all 16 games he had a prorated 9.6 sacks last year

Well I just re-read my post and I don't think I did a good job wording it properly. I made it seem like Lawrence is a guy we should keep when I meant to imply that him and Irving are both JAGs.

Re: All Inclusive Cowboys Thread
Jaylon Smith is moving pretty well based off the twitter video he posted yesterday.. Dude should be ready for the start of the season :tu

Lawrence has been worse than a JAG to date because of the injuries. He showed flashes of being an above average starting DE in 2015 when he wasn't injured, though. Also Irving showed flashes of being amazing but he also seemed to fizzle other times. I don't think he's a JAG. He's an interesting case. We'll find out what he is this year when he's playing for 7 figure money.
JAG = Jack Crawford, Tyrone Crawford... Terrell McClain, Cedric Thornton, as well as the nose tackle we just signed (Paea). Those guys are JAGs because they just don't have the talent and you know they're maximizing themselves when they get you 5 sacks a year but are stonewalled the majority of the time, they try their heart out to be just "okay" and it's not good enough to beat the best teams. They might make a play or two here and there but they're never going to take over a game on defense. With Irving and Lawrence it's different because they have the talent... they just haven't put it together, whether it be consistency issues (Irving) or injuries (Lawrence). Both are on contract years in 2017 so let's see what they can do as they'll likely be the starters on both sides to start the year.
A true JAG simply is incapable of the kind of games Irving had against Green Bay (the first one, in Lambeau) and the home game against Tampa late in the season. If you have that kind of dominant performance on your resume, coaches are going to expect a lot more of you (and they should).

Not corner, but JSmith can probably play Strong Safety, which is another hole though I do like Jeff Heath...

According to Wojtek, there's a possibility the Cowboys could trade for Richard Shermann:lol

That's a really tough call, I'm assuming they want our first rounder but I wouldn't do it. We need a pass rush more than anything and this is just squandering a good pick for a 29 year old cornerback who won't have the pass rush/safety help he had in Seattle. Also, our puppet head coach wouldn't be able to handle him. He'd just let him do whatever he wanted while calling him a 'passionate leader' just like he does when Dez keeps breaking rules and did the one year we had Hardy.
He'll just make the GarrettBot look like a bigger joke than he is.

Re: All Inclusive Cowboys Thread
rofl there it is. I was waiting for it.
'NT EAG, keeping the game close, having a reasonable discussion, then lets the other team go on a 10-0 run, letting the game get out of hand, posting the thread de-railing shitpost per par etc

10-0 is hardly letting the game get out of hand, tbh. A touchdown and field goal? That's not hard to make up with our offense.

[Jones] now stands to gain millions with the Raiders moving to Las Vegas in terms of the relocation fee to the Cowboys and personally with Legends spear-heading everything in sales and marketing.
Consider that it was Jones who pushed the deal through for St. Louis Rams to relocate to Los Angeles roughly 15 months ago. Not coincidentally, Legends is selling the suites and sponsorships for the new stadium in Los Angeles.
Legends also had a hand in the San Francisco 49ers deal for Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Legends sold out the suites and sponsorships there.
When the 49ers, the Rams, the Chargers, who will share the stadium in Los Angeles, and, now, the Raiders win off the field, it’s also a win for Jones.
No press conference necessary.

He's a linebacker no? They'd transition him to end?

Agreed. But they prolly think he can add weight since his brother is 300lbs. I think he's too small. I think he'd get thrown around like a rag doll at 255lbs. They'd be drafting on potential IMO.

3-4 ROLB and 4-3 RDE is the same damn thing. It's more of a formality thing than anything else.
Two point stance or three point... who cares? If you're an edge rusher, you're an edge rusher. Either way you line up on the line of scrimmage or damn near the line of scrimmage. It's NOT like a "linebacker" in the traditional sense of actually lining up a significant number of yards behind the line, like the three LBs in a 4-3 normal front ("over" and "under" fronts are more 3-4ish) or the two or three LBs in the 3-4 depending on how many the DC decides to rush, the 3-4 transforms (for all practical purposes) into a 4-3 or even a 5-2, depending on who the DC decides to rush or zone blitz or whatever.

A source informed of Smith's prognosis said the nerve in Smith's knee has started to regenerate. There is still a long way to go, but he's slowly getting muscle control.
Smith can now lift up his toes and he can lift his foot. More good news. What no one knows is when or if the nerve will completely return to normal.

That was a hell of a pick. I wanted Eddie Jackson but Woods is just as good.
