In short, a trained and educated professional actor analyzes the flopping techniques of several of the league's most notorious floppers -- the focus of that article is Manu -- based upon several different acting criteria.
It's a quick read, and since this off-season is getting boring, the occasional article like that is worth your time.
Manu throws himself into the fray and gets the sh!t kicked out of him. One man's flop is another man's passionate play. I think most of the time he goes down the contact is actually pretty significant these days. 95% of the players in this league don't put their bodies on the line like Manu does every single game he plays.
Uh, neither of the video examples are actually flops, particularly the one where Bonzi catches Manu in the chin with his shoulder. Since Manu got fouled on both plays, and one of them wasn't called, perhaps the point is that he doesn't get the calls that he should.
For extra comedy greatness, they should post the rest of that Rockets broadcast where Drexler goes nuts on every single call that went against a Houston player.
Sometimes people call flopping the natural instinct of the athletes to protect their health. Sometimes nba players overreact because they believe there is a foul and they know the refs won't call or see it for sure. In these cases I support the so called "floppers". After all health is the most important thing!
True. In addition, I don't exactly see how forcing a ref to make a call on legitimate contact is a flop. Sometimes people call something a flop because they watched it in slow motion, where reactions look artificial because the camera is faster than human reflexes. If you watch Manu getting his nose broken it looks like a flop in slow motion. PS: Manu was called for the foul on that play if memory serves.Quote:

What annoys me are commentators who complain about flopping, and then when something like the obvious Fisher foul on Barry happened in the playoffs (non-call from Joey Crawford standing 10 feet away), one of those commentators says 'Barry should have sold it.'Quote:

Ginobili still has the flopper rep and always will but honestly he's barely flopped in the past 3 seasons. It's not really apart of his game anymore. In fact I would say the other stars in the league (Kobe, Pierce, CP3, etc) flop 10x more than Ginobili these days.
Manu is by far the best flopper in the league. I really was surprised to see him drawing fouls in his rookie years with so consistence. But I wouldn't call him just a flopper, he's smart to use them and work it out with the refs.

If refs called fouls fair across the board we would not see this.
2003-2005, Manu flopped like crazy. I hated it...and he got the well earned reputation as a flopper. However, as someone else pointed out above, he stopped flopping all the time in 06 and hardly does it between 06-10 and he's still labeled a flopper. He still exaggerates contact but he doesn't just take a dive randomly anymore. It annoys me to no end when people still label him as a flopper.

I hear that a lot, but there's not much evidence to support it. What annoyed Spurs opponents during those years was Manu's long hair, because he could jerk his head when he took contact and draw attention. Even flinching to protect his face ended up looking dramatic. It's no coincidence that the complaints dried up for the most part once he cut off his hair.Quote:

as far as manu, i find it hilarious that despite his 8 year rep as a a mega flopper, all you can find on youtube is those two plays and a bunch of songs/skits where manu isnt even in the play. Meanwhile, other guys have catalogs of recorded flops.
for me, the worst are fisher, cp3, baron davis, and pau gasol. fisher and cp3 are calculated floppers, davis and cp3 i've seen flop in dead ball situations, and gasol spends half the game stumbling around moaning for calls. of course, it wouldnt bother me as much if he didnt get them.
Fisher and Varejao are far and away league leaders in this dept IMO...
I've been looking for the last 20 minutes and couldn't find anything either. The Horry flop is there, which was blatant, but Horry and Oberto were great at setting guys up for those kinds of plays. They also show the sequence against New Orleans in the playoffs a few years ago when the Spurs drew three legitimate offensive fouls. Watching that Bonzi foul, he catches Manu under the chin. You can debate whether or not it's a foul, but Bonzi knocked the shit out of him, so it's not a flop.Quote:

I love manu and I love the way he throws his body around with reckless abandon... but he is one of the biggest floppers in the league, and Tony isn't too far behind.
"Trained actor" would never get up if he endured a "flop" against Manu. Compared to most players Manu is 'Maximus' from GLADIATOR. You want him in a foxhole with you at the Argon Forest. You want him in the French Underground. You want him next to you on Normandy Beach. He is and always will be a warrior. The rest of this post is bullshit.

Those are a couple of decent flops by Manu. One of my personal favorite floppers is Pau The Screamer Gasol. I wouldn't be surprised if Pau yells "Hey" in his sleep throughout the night.

Manu only had long hair in 2005. And i had no problem with him jerking his head. I had problems with him taking dives when there is almost no contact...which he rarely does now. He now does exaggerate contact (like when he dribbles by a screen, he tends to recoil back if theres any contact...but only with his upper body, so he can continue dribbling if theres no contact) but he doesn't flat out go to the ground over nothing.Quote:
