Hell no it's not racist but I get the double standard. We will see if his comments gets much airtime.

He should be fired for not being very good at his job. Poor choice of words. I haven't heard "cotton-pickin'" since 1992.

I fucking hate this line of thinking. Anyone who says something with even a sliver of racism suddenly needs to be fired.
Does anyone really think Rick Sanchez is a racist?
All my life I've heard people say shit like, "wait a cotton-pickin minute", but I NEVER related that to slavery. Never crossed my mind.

I don't think Rick Sanchez is good at his job. I wanted him fired before this, it is unrelated to this incident. I have heard it all the time as well. But it is a poor choice of words considering the President's ethnicity (even though his father was the first-generation). By the same token, I have heard "(n-word)-rigged" as well. It's just a poor choice of words. He's a little too "man of the people." Newscasters should be competent. He's not my cup of tea.
I'm not calling for his head for any reason related to this.

I didn't realize it either until I was watching a Looney Tunes, and realized what "cotton-picking varmint" must've referred to.
However, a newscasters has to be careful with what he says, for obvious reasons. I think that they're held to a slightly higher PC standard.

Not with Rick Sanchez. He's that midwest neighbor who tells it like it is. Another way for CNN to dominate the stupidity market.

Then what exactly did cross your mind? Cotton picking has some other connotation?
No one will call for Sanchez's job, he's just a goober that might as well end every statement he makes with "amiright, u guyz?" He should have never been upgraded to a desk job - go back to getting hit by flying fish, tazed, and testing out escape methods for submerged cars.

Strange how an "off color" remark is a career ender for some, but not for others.

Strange how Dr. Laura is a creepy old cunt and Rick is harmless compared to her giving "advice" to people.
I still think Imus was unfairly persecuted, but that's just my humble opinion.

Yeah there's a double standard. But it's better than everyone being consistently over-sensitive across the board. As long as both sides keep trying to one-up each other on finding racism in innocent remarks, political over-correctness is here to stay.

As far as the poor choice of words, yes, in this ultra sensitive time, absolutely.

His name is Sanchez and he's given leeway to ad-lib on-air (no way that ramble and stutter is scripted). Yes, there is a double-standard. Whitey says that and isn't CNN's "street cred" with middle-America, he'd be out the door. Wolf Blitzer would be suspended because he's a reporter. Sanchez is horrible. Horrible. Fire him, but not because of this.
