Re: New TV series - The walking Dead
This season is the first time that I'm kind of wishing I was watching without the knowledge of what happens in the comics. Probably because the prison/Woodbury arcs are by far the highlight of the comic series thus far, in my opinion, and I'm more attached to that narrative than I was to the farm or the Atlanta stuff.
I understand that there would necessarily be differences due to the fact there are different characters, but they way they've split up the two stories and somewhat accelerated the plot changes the stakes and changes the dynamic of the situation in a way that I think is unfortunate. For instance, I think it's somewhat important to the overall plot that Rick see the prison as a place worth fighting for when The Governor finally shows up to claim it, but I can't imagine why he would now. In the books the group is at the prison for several relatively calm months (relatively) in which they're able to fall into a new routine, whereas on the show they've been overrun by walkers multiple times, lost Lori in a pretty fucked up way (regardless your thoughts on the character, her death was harsh), been severely fucked by the rogue inmate, and have a screaming baby to take care of all within the space of, what, a couple of weeks? The way things have gone so far, if Merle or The Governor show up soon and demand to take the prison, I can't see why Rick wouldn't just hand it over. It's been pretty shitty so far and they've lost more people there than they did in the eight or so months they were on the move.
That being said, I thought the episode was very strong on its own. I don't think I'd have any of those concerns if I didn't have the books to compare it to.

I'd argue that Rick would be the type to say "We've lost so much already, it won't be in vain. This was where we wanted to have the baby and now it's here. People died because of a mistake that I made and I won't let it happen again" and thus would fight anyone that tries to take over the prison.
Re: New TV series - The walking Dead
Hollywood always uses the book or comic or whatever as a guide; they never follow it. They'll have mostly the same characters and locations but that's about it. I can't see them bypassing the winter like they already have then bypass a few more months while being at the prison. That's just way too much time and not enough action; the fucking farm was boring enough. I never read the comics and I might later on just to get that perspective, but the way they're doing things now is ok with me. They might not even have the governor show up and demand the prison. A third party could be introduced like the army/national guard or whatever, which would spice things up quite nice.
Besides, if the governor does show up and say "give me the prison", what the fuck is Rick gonna do? Go to war with a few pistols and super limited ammo against Humvees with .50 cals? Shortest battle ever.

The episode was awesome, emotional and poignant. It definitely sets up the battle between the Gov and Rick, however it shows you that the Gov is only doing what he's doing to protect his way of life. This is the same thing Rick is learning to do. Maybe they aren't that different than they appear....only time and experiene is what's between them. Who knows, as I haven't read the comics. It will be interesting to say the least.

I don't think Lori is dead. We never saw her turn and we didn't see Carl shoot her. Carol will find her and save her somehow.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a temporary Lori revival to troll some of the fans :lol
