George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Well, at least if this game is any indication of his full potential.
Spurs future is looking bright even after the big 3 dynasty comes to an end.

Point out to me where I said tony parker is old and I'll give you a cookie.
Point out where I even implied 3, 4, 5 years from now by merely saying "future" and I'll buy you 2 cookies.

Oh, and if that isn't bad enough, there still remains the fact that George Hill isn't even a point guard. He's a shooting guard.

Leave it to Ginobili homers judging this thread as if it's a shot against ginobili instead of a compliment to George Hill. :rollin

Hill my second fave player after Manu. But seriously this thread is just full of premature ejaculation...its the equivalent of someone making a Blair thread after one his 20-20 games and saying he's the heir to Duncan.
There is no heir to Duncan. Just like there will be no heir to Ginobili. Theyre not players that come around very often.

Hill is not the heir to Manu. There won't be one actually. Manu is a very unique player, never seen anything like him, probably won't again.

I don't think the thread starter's intent was to say he'll be the next Manu Ginobili, just sayin' he's going to take over his role on the team, for better or for worse.

This.
8-10 years from now we'll see the ball in George Hill's hands at the end of games. He'll be one of the top 3 options on the team.
Will he ever be as good as Ginobili? Of course not.
You still can't deny the the apparent fact that Pop is priming Hill to - one day way WAY down the line - take over Ginobili's role on this team. This is not to say he'll ever be as good as Ginobili. It's simply stating that - if today's game is any indication of Hill's full potential - he's good enough to fill that role.
You don't have to be as good as Ginobili to fill his role down the line. It's hard enough to be even a fraction of Ginobili is (or what he was in his prime) but Hill has shown that he's capable of doing at least that.
What's the alternative? Do you think Pop is going to trade away Hill or we'll find someone better prepared to assume Ginobili's throne down the line?

What can I say? I'm a grey name spurs fan with no accolades or spurs under my name who is scorned by most of the "regulars" on the site.
So pretty much this is my only way of getting some type of satisfaction and recognition and respect around here.

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
^^ What do you mean by grey name spurs fan? How do you make names bold? I never thought much of it. Figured it would just be some option under control panel.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Hill doesn't need to take over Manu's role, and I highly doubt he will be with this team 10 years from now.

Manu...
He is the heir to his own throne.
He will one day pass the torch... to himself.
He once played like a mortal... just to see what it felt like.

You really think so??? What makes you think that?
Isn't Hill one of Pop's favorite players? Didn't Pop continue to give him minutes and continue to tell him to stay aggressive even when he was struggling early on?

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
I love George, but hes nowhere near Manu. When I think of Gino my first thought is not his shooting or slashing, ankle breakers nor crossovers. It's his passing. The guy has an uncanny ability to get teammates involved and get an offense flowing.
George might be able to do the shooting, slashing and all the other fancy stuff, but he has a long ways to go in the passing category. And passing it what will activate the offense around you, get teammates going, and then make the game easier for YOU.
I love George, but hes not on Manu's level.
That being said, as one of those guys that groaned when I heard IUPUI on draft night, I completely take it back and will eat my crow. The guy is legit and is a HUGE asset to this team.
-

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Manu's first 3 seasons:
7.6ppg
12.8ppg
16.0ppg
George's first 3 seasons:
5.7ppg
12.4ppg
11.5 ppg
First two seasons are very comparable, but the 3rd can be explained by Hills slump in the beginning of the year. Take that away I'm sure his season 3 would be comparable too.
The comparison is fair, but I see one huge advantage for MANU. He is longer, taller, and passes better. These are his intangibles.
Hill on the otherhand is faster and younger than when Manu first came to the league so Hill's got potential to fill the 6th man of the year type role that Manu has filled for a while. Hill will have to bulk up. I'm leaning more towards a Bobby jackson type role for Hill in the future.
-

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
I love what Hill brings to the table, but there's no way he is Manu-like beyond his ability to score, play D, and come off the bench. I doubt there are 5 players in the NBA with Manu's court vision, competitive instinct, idiosyncratically efficient skill-set, and understanding of the game on both ends of the court. He'll be a coach before any other player of our championship days excepting Avery.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
He even did a behind the back dribble penetration layup ala Manu today. :stirpot:
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
remember that manu at 21/22 (not remermbering george's age now) was not the great passer that he is now, he tell you that he didn't understand the game very much at that age
so george can develop too

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Well it does seem like the guys are trying to learn Manu's moves. This was from the other night. Interesting.
http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursna...laim-identity/
DeJuan Blair took it from there, rambling up the floor and finishing with a nimble Euro-step around Hawks guard Jamal Crawford.
Watching it all unfold from elsewhere on the court, guard George Hill recognized the move.
“He learned it the same place I did,” Hill said. “From copying Manu.”

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Which is great, and clearly bodes well for our future. I guess my point would be: where did Manu learn to be Manu from? A: hisself.

Irrelevant. Manu was already an all-star in the Euroleague before he ever came to the NBA.
George still has plenty of time to grow, and i believe that he could very well become the next Ginobili. He just needs to work on his passing and creating for himself.

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
I'm almost sure that what we see here is just the preparation for the future role. Pop won't replace Manu (after retire) with a trade or draft (I guess we won't get early in the 1st round soon) The same thing is with Duncan. I expect after Duncan retires Blair and Splitter taking over the front court. Back court would feature James Anderson and G.Hill, Parker will be around, Jefferson maybe too, but in the far future - Splitter, Hill, Anderson, Blair.
This players are here to learn from our veterans, to learn the system and the culture ot our organization. What we saw yesterday with Hill's behind the back is that if you grow around super talented and crafted players, sometimes it's better for you than being super talented yourself but without tutors.
It's all about pounding the rock, not waiting for the kryptonite to fall from the sky!

Hill has to play with 2 all stars in the backcourt.I'm sure he could average 18-20 ppg in the league but we have too many weapons right now so Hill can't average more than 12-13 ppg.

That is the exact quote that ran through my mind when George did the euro-step, behind the back move in the NBA highlights. Blair and George are both smart, super athletic guys. If these two are studying Manu's moves, which everyone knows is happening but still managed to get burned? Oh my.

lol comparin hill to ginoboli, who let the parker fans out
hill>parker

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
I think if anything, Hill can inherit Parker´s role.
He is good on the fastbreak even when numbers are not in his favor just like TP, he looks first for his shot like TP, his size is good for a PG position, his passing is yet to get to TP´s level, but it think he can get there.
I think the player that has showcased the most habilities to became like Manu is James Anderson, he is a better passer than Hill, his assist per minute rate is higher than Hill all 3 seasons, his body is almost perfect for the SG role, and he can make it even better if he mucles up the way Blair and Hill did in their first preseasons.
By the way
Body comparisions
Player: Tony Parker -------- George Hill -------- Emanuel Ginobili --- James Anderson
Height: 6-2 / 1.88 --------- 6-2 / 1.88 -------- 6-6 / 1.98 --------- 6-6 / 1.98
Weight:185 lbs. / 83.9 kg. - 180 lbs. / 81.6 kg. - 205 lbs. / 93.0 kg. - 215 lbs. / 97.5 kg.
Not sure if Anderson will be as good as he looked like, but as of now he is our best case scenario for the next game changing SG.

Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
lmao @ anyone with less than 1,000 posts creating any kind of topic here, and seeing it get disected and destroyed.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Hill cannot inherit Parker's role, Brent's wife don't like him.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Hill is playing the role ginobli used to have, come of the bench and make an immediate impact. So far george is doing great in duplicating that, even led the team in scoring of the bench last game, ala manu.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
No one is gonna be the next SuperManu Ginobili
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Hill's potential value as a future closer cannot be overlooked--his ability to be a defensive pest with his length is what I believe will make him one of Pop's (or whoever's coaching), biggest assets.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
George Hill was a hell of a find. Spurs seem to have a knack for those. Plus defender, who seems to have all-star offensive potential. No replacing Ginobili... but Hill can begin assuming more of Manu's scoring responsibilities when the years begin to catch up to him.
Duncan is going to be what he is now, health permitting, for another 4 or 5 years, as will Tony Parker. But having young talent like Hill definitely helps to pry the championship window open... perhaps several more years.
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
Manu needs no heir. He'll just hit 35, and rejuvenate himself back to 25.
Maybe grow some body too, to play center. :P
-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
comparisons are often unneccessary.

-
Re: George Hill is the heir to the Manu Ginobili throne
This is nothing like David to Tim. That was a passing of the torch. Manu to Hill, is not. He will fill a role, that is it. There will be no "heir" to his throne, just another guard filling the space he use to occupy.
