I don't know if i should actually say which Spurs players, but back in 99, just before the playoffs were getting started, I was at the wild Zebra. Ran into 3 Spurs there. I shook hands with one of them and wished him good luck in the playoffs.
Met Sean Elliott and a few other players when I was a little kid. They came to my town to visit the local high school or something
During a preseason game a few years ago, my section was one of the few selected to get an autograph by a Spurs player. We got Sean Marks. We didn't stay haha.
I met George Hill a few months ago when he came to town for some city sponsored event.
I saw Ime Udoka walking into an Old Navy a few years back.
Met Sean Elliott again a few weeks ago when I went to the Clippers game. One of my all time favs :)
oh and I met David Robinson Jr. at the game too. We waited to go to our seats while the ball was in play. Cool dude, I shook his hand and talked to him for a little bit.
thats about it.
I was calling around today and late last night, to see if my friends had any Spurs stories I could share with y'all.
Luckily one of my friends said he saw Duncan at EZ's close to alamo heights area. Said he was there with his wife and kids.
Wish my friend would have called me at the time so could possibly get an autograph.
Oh well next time hopefully :toast
Also, some of my friends didn't answer so I'll keep calling and I will post more stories as I get them ( hopefully).
He was really quiet for the most part but a couple of times when telling a story he got up to act something out.
He was there with like a 10 person entourage. They had all come from a club and were most were being talkative.
Hill sat next to a girl he kept hugging and putting his head on her shoulder. She was white and very very plain looking.
add in a few more instances.
D Rob rear-ended my dad in at an Exxon station (Huebner and Wurzbach) No damage. I think he was learning to drive stick.
Met Sean, Willie Anderion, Alvin Robertson, Avery Johnson at the basketball camp. Got to play with David Robinson's younger brother and Shannon Anderson (pre when he played in the NBA).
Met Dwayne Schnizus at a chinese restaurant (near lockhill and NW highway). Also met him at Brandeis when he was a Celtic (huge asshole).
Add me to the list as well, so many people here have ran into Spurs...
However, I've at least managed to high five a few Spurs players (Manu, Duncan, Horry), got Manu's autograph when they came to town (Philly) on a black swingman Manu jersey... I've seen some Sixers in public before, both Maurice Cheeks and Andre Iguodala. The Iggy encounter was only a couple of weeks ago; we were both walking in opposite directions at the mall and we nearly ran right into each other due to being distracted on our cell phones...I would have said something had I thought of it in the very tiny fraction of a second I could have, but I was in that state of shock a couple seconds after due to the incident :lol
I hope to meet Manu someday, and I think it might be possible. I only relatively recently found out that a relative, my grandmother's aunt (how she's still alive, I'm not sure), is actually a family friend of the Ginobili's back in Bahia Blanca. I also found out that my grandmother's cousin's son used to play basketball with Manu at a young age. Now it's a pretty distant tie, but perhaps someday it'll be enough to arrange something...the only challenge is being in Argentina during the same time Manu is, and since I'm not there too often, essentially all of my time is spent seeing family in Buenos Aires. Bahia Blanca would make quite the car ride and distraction from seeing family.
This same loose connection is also the same one that sent an autographed picture directed to me (with my name on it) from Manu...
Okay guys, good news.
Supposedly one of my friends from San Antonio finally called me back. Unfortunately I was asleep this morning when he called me, so I called him back whenever I saw that he called.
He told me he saw Tony Parker pumping gas one day by the Rim.
I'm still making calls and still waiting on calls from friends who didn't answer my phone calls initially.
I will share the stories as they come. :toast
Funny you should say that about Vinny Del Negro....I worked at the Albertson's on NW Military and Huebner during '98 and '99. He and his wife were regulars in the store. A co-worker and I took out his groceries.....we simply said hi to Vinny, and he didn't even look our way and just immediately got in the car. His wife was really nice and talkative though.
LOL I'm surprised by all the stories... My cousin saw George Hill and Dejuan Blair in the V.I.P at Bar 11. He said Blair looked like a punk rocker and George didn't know how to dress haha. This was after the game when we made the comeback at home against the T-Wolves a few games back.
My other cousin said this past summer out of nowhere someone opened the door for him at the Zoo turned around and it was Tim Duncan. He said he was in shock and awe while Duncan just laughed and walked right by like nothing.
Makes me wonder what these guys feel like cruising around living in our city. They're like LEGENDS down here in the Alamo City... Hopefully i get to run in someone cool :hat
I was sitting in the Northwoods theater (forgot the movie) when the previews come on and in walks this tall guy... I look closer and it's David and his kids sitting right next to us.
Another time right before I was about to go on vacation I remember bowling and in walks this tall guy in the lane next to us with his kids... it was David again.
When I was younger we were at Walmart and randomly saw Sean Eliott promoting a charity.
Met Ime at a season ticket holder event.
Met Manu and Tony together at some special event when they were rookies. The funny thing was my brother didn't even want to stand in line and wait. Looking back, it's amazing how we didn't expect anything of these two guys...
Saw someone randomly at Best Buy. I think it might've been Sean again.
Did a basketball camp with AJ and Antonio way back.
Shot FT's with Bonner. haha...
Also saw Pop on his way to Tony's wedding in an airplane of all places.
This just in!
Just received another callback from a buddy of mine.
He was saying he saw Brent Barry and his family at Fiesta Texas about 4 years ago. He was telling me Barry was eating cotton candy as him and his family were strolling along.
Even told me he went up to Barry and thanked him for the shots he made during the championship years and even got Barry's autograph on his t-shirt!! He even said Brent offered him some cotton candy. HILARIOUS, NO? :rollin
Just thought I'd share yet another story.
I'll continue making calls and also hopefully getting calls back from friends in San Antonio. I'll continue to share each story as they come. :toast
Now let's beat those Nuggets!! GO SPURS GO:flag:
I used to see Beno all the time at Bombay on Fredricksburg road when he was with us..It was weird because he was always with the known coke dealer of the bar. I also saw Devin Brown at the Martini Ranch on West Ave. a couple of times as he's good friends with the owner. He actually bought out the bar for everyone there one night, we had about an hour long free for all.
I can also remember doing the old "were not worthy" praise from Wayne's World as a kid for Terry Cummings back in the day, while he was at an autograph signing at the old Builders Square hardware store over at Marbach and 410. I'm sure he was pretty wierded out by that.
As far as the advice for the stalker who started this thread, be sure that when you stop by to stalk David at his home, also pay a visit to George Strait, he lives next door.
I've only seen one player, it was Big Z after a huge win against us around two years ago. He was shopping in the mall and I didn't approach him. I remember that was the game where Pops Mensah Bonsu went off.
Way back in the day...mid 90s my family and I went to the Cluster of Dog shows and were petting this big Rotweiler and weren't paying attention. Off to the side of us was Sean Elliott. My dad caught him and video taped it. We watch it every once in a while and just shake our heads.
I saw Beno at Shipley's the morning we won the '05 championship.
Around Easter of '06 my sister and mom saw Beno at PetsMart on De Zavala with his black lab.
Sister also saw TD at the Wal-Mart on De Zavala and Bonner at the Old Navy at the Rim.
