Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
What do you guys think? It seems that Ginobili is becoming the next superstar in the NBA, and that people are enjoying watching him more than duncan and parker together....which I don't blame.
But do you think that this Franchise will be Ginobili's? As in Duncan will pass it on to him and parker?
That's what Robinson did.
Give me ur opinion.
if this thread was made already...advise me to delete it...I was banned.

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Tim will always be known as the guy who turned the franchise around. We had our good years before Timmy, but we were just like the Sonics, Mavs, or Kings...we were usually around, but never a real threat. Duncan's legacy will be bigger than Robinson's when he retires. Ginobili is incredible, but we wouldn't be the team we are without Tim.

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Give me a break. As long as Duncan is on this team he will always be by far the best player. Unless he plays when hes 36-40+

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Tim still has another 4/5 years of prime basketball, and probably 3/4 more good years after that. In 4/5 years Manu will probably be to old to truly be "the man" on the team, especially with his style of play. I think people forget Manu's age.

I never forget his endurance though...

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I really don't think that will happen. By the time Duncan retires, Manu will be about to retire aswell, so I really don't think that will happen. Don't forget Manu is the same age as Tim, only 1 year younger I think but thats it. This team will be Tim's until he retires and by then it'll be too late to leave it to Manu. Maybe Tony will take the reins by then.

When Tim is 36-40, Manu is going to be 34-38.
What is your point?

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Hmm...so ya'll think
Gino=kobe
Duncan=Shaq..
dont compare ages...but compare parts in the franchise.
Then what is parker?

My point is is he still gonna be the face of the Spurs by then even at that age.
What do you picture tim and manu physically the same?

Oh, you are talking about the face of the team. Before you said "When do you think the franchise will be Ginobili's?"... Which will be never, because as long as Tim is in his prime it is his, and Manu's prime and Timmy's prime happen to be at the same time.

Who is stupid here :lol
You think after Tim is through his prime that Manu is going to be "the man" on the team. By that time Manu is going to be 33/34 years old. Not to many guards are superior at that age, especially ones that have played since they were 18 including a lot of international play. Not to mention guards that play as all out as Manu.
Then you use his endurance as a positive for your argument but it is actually a negative, because it is common knowledge that perhaps the only thing wrong with Manu's game is that he is unable to play big minutes all the time without his play being affected adversely. It's not reallly his fault, because he goes all out in his 30mpg and I wouldn't have it any other way.
So who is stupid again?

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think that Manu has already begun the transition to NBA superstar.
First, the national tv commentators (Barkley being his biggest fan) are singing his praises nightly. We see him play every game, but the national audience is largely ignorant of individual players on most teams until the playoffs. So what the "takling heads" say is important in building a buzz around a player.
Two, the magazines are jumping on board. Sports junkies devour the mags and they spread the gospel to the masses.
Three, the future of the NBA is in international marketing and Manu is the perfect poster boy (given that Gold Medal and the fact that he's played in both South America and Europe). Mrs. Stern didn't raise no fool and David will push Manu.
Fourth, he's fun to watch play (as long as your not on the team he's playing against). Can you guys say "highlight reel."
But even though he will be a superstar, he won't eclipse Tim. Manu's career won't last much past Tim's. After all, hasn't Manu already played over ten years of professional ball? And Manu's body won't be able to take the pounding indefinately and we won't see the same kind of exciting basketball from him four or five years from now. Even still, he is such a solid player that his game will adapt and become more refined. And I honestly believe that his game would not have developed to this level if not for tha fact that Tim is in the game. Duncan makes everyone on his team better. As great and as unselfish as Manu is, I'm not sure you can say the same about his game
Besides, everyone on our team cares more about winning than individual stats. As far as I'm concerned, there are five superstars on the floor every minute of a Spurs game.

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think these guys don't buy into labels or pecking orders. They view themslves as a team of fifteen players, each contributing when and what he can. Fans and press create the "this guys the leader, that guys not". The players likely think that's all a bunch of crap.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think Manu will retire before Tim. They are only one year apart in age (Tim 15 months older). Big men usually last longer in the league. And Manu's style of play doesn't bode well for a long-lasting career.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think Parker will be the future star of the Spurs.
(Don't forget he is only 23 years old)
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Tim's the leader. Tim's the only guy that can tell Pop, "I'm not coming out" and get away with it.
Manu is a bonafide All-Star, prime-time, key contributor, but I can't see him tellin' Pop that at this stage of his career.

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
if duncan is smart he'll realize he isnt exactly the same player he used to be and hand it down to ginobili.

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Duncan is the leader and players like Ginobili and Parker benefit from this. Without Duncan these players would see more double teams just like Kobe did without Shaq. A big man takes away alot of the attention on players like Ginobili and Parker.

Let's just enjoy this team while we can. Manu has maybe 5 years left in him, and Duncan maybe ten if he's lucky.

wow some mavs fan make smarter statements about it than some homers. interesting lol
TD will be over Gino still till they retire due to their game/age.
Gino is awesome, makes crazy play and has been the best spur in this postseason so far but please dont forget you talk about Tim Duncan ! cmon

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I have to say the reason I posted this thread is because Manu Ginobili recently has been way more popular than Duncan. I know Duncan has done everything for this city...but to think that a hispanic player would play in San Antonio definately has good chances of being the face of the franchise in many of the fans' minds..
I'm just asking for ur opinion on that..is it the face or will he be the face of the franchise by the fans?
obviously he's the most popular..but ive come to the conclusion that even though he is the most popular he wont be because of the game.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think so. Manu is the real deal.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Manu is just as good, if not better than all the other 2 guards in the NBA...and yes I am talking about Kobe, T-mac, Wade and Lebron
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
You're getting a little carried away with Manu. He might be as good as Kobe or Allen but Mcgrady and Wade were playing at a very high level in this years playoffs. Mcgrady was killing Dallas by himself in the Houston/Dallas series. Ginobili is a top 5 SG though.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Duncan will play another five years after Manu retires.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I think if you take into consideration Manu's basketball IQ and knowledge of what to do in every game situation, he may be better....
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
I agree. He plays very well with Duncan and Parker but San Antonio can play well without him to. Houston can't play well without Mcgrady and Miami plays ok without Wade. This team would still be solid with Ginobili. Without Duncan is a different story.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Manu can get in the lane and get layups or fouls...and and1's....assists...offensive rebounds...he can just freaking score.
Why do you think many of the top SG's think he's so unpredictable?
he does all of the above..that's why he's a superstar...not just a star.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
San Antonio can play well without Manu, bc of his supporting cast... Houston and Miami dont have a great team after their stars
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Duncan is the man and Ginobili is the 2nd best player. Phoenix doesn't have any interior defense due to not having a big man which makes it easier for slashers like Ginobili and Parker to have big games. Ginobili isn't consistent enough to be a superstar. Take Duncan out and Ginobili will struggle. Look at the Dallas/San Antonio game.

My god !! can you see the future?? Whats if Tim (I hope not) get injured pretty bad??
We could never know who will get retired before the other one... What I could say is that I think that Manu is awsome and He could play without Tim... Many of you would say that I'm crazy but I'm not... A lil' show of this was the las Olympic Games... Argentina kick our ass with Manu in the front of this... US has Timmy talent and many more but... Who won the game?? And don't tell me that Argentina have more experienced players because there was just 3 guys in NBA of 15 !!!... US had 15 guys in the NBA higher teams... So... Just think a lil' bit more b4 you post...
Tim is = Strenght, calm, the analyzer of spurs.
Manu's= The courage, the unfear, the talent itself of spurs
Tony's= the speed, the opportunism, the new blood of spurs...
This 3 players have their own stars shining 24/7 for them
Spurs as a franchise... I think Tim and Manu are the most famous guys, both are awsome... But the incredible of this is that Manu has so much better background that Timmy, because He won more things than Timmy beside Spurs and as someone said... He has played in South America, Europe and NBA (The 3 best quallity of basketball in the world)...
Some one also saids that Manu is just marketer... I think the same... San Antonio has a lot of hispanic population and Manu is just bring them to get their attention to Spurs...
Manu is such a huge beast, and the last game was just a lil' show of what he can do for Spurs when the time comes.
Greetings All
Don't fight please !

Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Duncan's not the same player because he's playing on two bum ankles. That, and half the games this team played this season were over 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter, so there was no reason for Duncan to play the minutes he needed to put up 2002 numbers. The Spurs will never have another Duncan.... just like the Celtics will never have another Bird, Lakers another Magic, etc.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
No way, Manu don´t need to be the Star of the Team, he´s a Team Player
Manu makes the team fun, but the X-Factor will be Tim Duncan
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
We're talking about one of the all time greats in Duncan. He has a chance to go down as the best to ever play his position. And I have no doubt that he'll get back to his previous level after he gets healthy and has some time to rest.
The other thing to remember is that Manu has played at a superstar level for only a few weeks. He's raised his game in these playoffs to the highest level we've ever seen from him. He's shooting the ball with a lot of confidence and he's making all the right decisions. But players do go through really good stretches. And they go through slumps, too. I'm not saying that what Manu is doing is simply going through a good stretch right now, but I'm not convinced that he'll play at this level night after night, season after season.
If he can keep it up for the rest of the playoffs and into next season and beyond, you could make a case that he's a superstar and should share the "it's my team" role with Tim. But I personally think that's unlikely to happen, and given that, Duncan will clearly remain this team's best player into the forseeable future.
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
Last time I checked, Tim still leads the Spurs in points, rebounds and blocked shots. Tim is incredibly overlooked by the media - he is more "dominant" than Shaq, for example.
Don't get me wrong, I love Manu's game, and the Spurs wouldn't be where they are without Tim, Manu and Tony.
I love all three, and am very happy they all have long contracts with the Spurs so I can continue to watch them carve up opponents for years to come...
-
Re: Will Ginobili Shadow Duncan and Parker in the future?
i don't think so. Tim is recognized as one of the best if not the best player in the NBA. I love Manu, I don't think that he will ever reach that status. He is playing his best now, IMO, and there are still several guards who are better then him like Kobe, Tmack, Lebron, Nash, Wade, Studamire. In this day and age in hte NBA, a team either needs to be built around a very dominant big man, or have a starting five a la the Pistons. If Tim is takenout of the Spurs, our big men become Nazar and Rasho. Tim is who made this franchise what it is today (along with Robinson) and it will be his team as long as he's in his prime. However, I think that Manu's prime will end when Tim's does due to age.
