Way too close at the end
IMO the Spurs better come out in game 4 with a DEFENSIVE INTENSITY that they brought in that 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter was HORRIBLE!!
The Spurs need to bring better defensive intensity than they brough tonight to close this out.
Better defense, and more agressive to the hole basketball.
Im afraid though, Phoenix figured out how to play D in that 4th quarter.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
they need to cut that shit out, the fuckin around after they get a big ass lead.

On the money right there. They relaxed like only the spurs can when they're up big.

Re: Way too close at the end
yeah spurs should beat the best offensive in the nba during the regualr season by 20
they only won 62 games out of 82
dude chill
-
Re: Way too close at the end
They weren't exactly setting the world on fire on offense either. Too many jumpers.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
pop was the one that took tp out
spurs scored 2 points in first half in 5 minutes when tp went out and they did the same thing in the second half
blame pop for putting beno back in there

If you've got Fox Sports SW they've got the whole press conference on there.

Timmy was turnover prone tonight. Kept Phoenix in the game.

T-Park, it's pretty hard going through 48 minutes of basketball without trailing the suns....a team that goes on scoring runs so easily.
-

Yes, tonight, THEY SHOULD HAVE!!!!!!!!!!
No excuses for that HORRIBLE HORRIBLE 4th quarter.
Popovich has his work cut out for him if they are gonna close out monday.
The offense was a joke in the 4th and really needs to be adjusted to the defense.
The Suns have figured out how to defend, can the Spurs figure out how to attack it????
im not gonna chil duckfuck, Massenburg and Udrih shoudlve been in at the end with running out the clock.
A totally horrible 4th quarter.
More of an effort to conserve energy for the 4th as well.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
It's good that it wasn't a blow out.
That means they won't come out overconfident on Monday.
It's 3-0.
It's over.

Bullshit.
Total total absolute bullshit.
The had the Suns on there HEELS and backpedaling in that 2nd quarter and the beginning of the 4th and FAILED to put thier feet on their neck.
They better come back out better in game 4 to win this.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
They had gone 8 quarters without a drought. The Spurs were due a shooting slump, and Phoenix was due a scoring burst.
Spurs won game one by 7
Spurs won game two by 3
Spurs won game three by 10
Quit your fucking whining.
By my count, we're up 3-0.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
spurs have owned the 4 this series expect for tonight
spurs had a 38 point quarter though in the first
-
Re: Way too close at the end
Jesus, dude, we were outscored by 7 points in the fourth. We've seen a lot worse in the Playoffs than we saw in this fourth quarter. I think it just looked worse than it was because the Spurs haven't had a bad game in 2 weeks.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
I guess Me and Aggie should just put our heads in the sand and ignore that pathetic 4th.
Fuckin homers.....
-

scoring drought? they scored 22 POINTS IN THE 4 geez people

The Suns at one point had it to I think 5 or 6.
AFTER BEING UP BY 20 THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
But, we won, so oh well.

Calm the fuck down dude, we just won.
The Suns are the best team in the league, they have all young players, they like to run, and they play their starters the whole game.
The Spurs didn't have an amazing 4th quarter, but they had a great game in general, and they won. Even though the Suns were cutting down on the lead, you (or at least I) could tell that we still had it under control.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
Spoken like people who didn't understand what the Spurs were doing. The Spurs were defending Amare 1-1 and keeping defenders on the three point shooters. Amare was awesome on offense but could only do 2 points at a time. Did you think the Suns weren't going to get a run at some point?
-
Re: Way too close at the end
No, by all means keep bitching about a subpar quarter after we've gone up 3-0 against a 60 win team.
It would be a boring night without you.
;)

By all means, stick your heads in the sand and ignore real problems.
Hey we won, that means we automatically get game 4.

Wow.

The Spurs in the second quarter forced Amare out, and forced Nash to turn the ball over.
They should rinse and repeat that second quarter over and over and over.
No reason why the Spurs cant blow this team out, and no reason they cant play that 2nd quarter D for 48 minutes.
NO REASON AT ALL!!!!!
-
Re: Way too close at the end
yeah tpark I wish the spurs played the d like they did in quarter number 2 but that is almost impossible to do
suns were due to get hot at one point tonight
they still shot bad for them

there is a reason it can not be done
the suns are too good of a team to do that to for 48 minutes
suns could shot 20% and still score over 40 points in 48 minutes

Did you watch the 4th quarter?? They shut down Ginobili and Parker's lanes to the basket, and forced jumpshots the whole damn time.
Unless D Antoni is a totall bubbling retard, then hell do the same defensive scheme for game 4.
But, hey, were OK, we won the game, they will just roll over the next game.
-

pop can watch the 4 and see what happend
spurs lost forcus some
it was not the suns d that caused the huge 22 point drought in the 4

if you are agressive on D,
trap Nash, and push amare OUT, then yeah, YOU CAN do that for 48 mins.
But when you let Nash run free, and let Stoudamire get too easy of position, and keep jacking up jump shots with 2 seconds on the shot clock, then your gonna look like you do in the 4th but hey, thats OK to look like that in the 4th.

The Suns had nothing to do with Ginobili and Parker to shoot open jumpshots that whole 4th quarter.
Right right.

Yeah, try that for 48 minutes, and by trapping Nash, Amare will not be pushed out, and if he is, you sitll have either Q, Joe Johnson, or Jim Jackson wide open, draining 3's all night long.

no you didnt.
Parker and Ginobili missed open jump shots in that quarter.
Them Horry and Duncan fumbling the ball away let them back in.
The Suns D forced those shots.
So once again, keep thinking the Suns have figured out that the Zone pack the lane continues to frusterate and baffle this goddamn team.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
BTW Tim Duncan just said,
"They got set defensively and played well defensively"
So Duncan doesnt see they got set either???
-
Re: Way too close at the end
I'm with you TPark. They didn't play their best in the fourth quarter. I was more concerned about the lack of offense, though.
But they did win. And in the playoffs, a win is a win. Every one gets you closer to the ultimate goal, and the Spurs managed to get the job done tonight.
If the offense sputters against the Pistons in the finals, the Spurs might be in trouble though. There will be many more droughts against a good defensive team in the next round, and the Spurs have shown that their offense can disappear when the pressure intensifies.
Good win tonight. But they'll have a better chance of winning against a good defensive team in the finals if they execute better in the fourth.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
-
Re: Way too close at the end
The Suns went to a zone and a sagging D in the 4th and conceded the mid-range shots. The Spurs missed a lot of their jumpers and Timmy didn't go right away with his move on the block, so they bogged down some. They doubled Tim hard and Marion and Hunter defended him pretty well.
The Suns should zone more in game 4.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
T park, you said that Manu and Tony were taking a bunch of shots all 4th quarter...but they didn't really.
It was just a bunch of stupid turnovers, and duncan shots, crap like that.
-
Re: Way too close at the end
I am confused how bad could the o had been in the 4 they scored 22 points
and they scored 18 in the second
the o in the second was MUCH WORSE
spurs have been good in 4 against suns
first game they failed to score only 4 times down the court
they got cocky tonight in 4 and shot jumpshots and missed some
but it was because they had the big lead
-

Zone will play right into Tony's and Manu's hands. they will carve them up with penetration. Brent, Bruce, and Horry should have lots of open looks.

I'm not sure why you think that - the Spurs, especially Tony, have struggled when teams have thrown zones at them all year.
I'm not particularly worried, but if you think that the Spurs are magically going to turn one of their greatest weaknesses into a strength, I think you need to go back and watch some more game tape.
The Spurs will win the series soon, but they will continue to struggle against zones.

I don't need a subpar 4th quarter against Phoenix to tell me the Spurs will need to be consistent in their offense against a team like Detroit or Miami. That's a given. But I'm certainly not worried about how that quarter affects the rest of this series.
I'm glad the Spurs were tested with some different looks defensively. I HOPE this makes Phoenix come out with a lot of defensive intensity in Game 4. We need the warmup for the Finals.

Nope, nothing.
The Spurs have consistently won 3 straight games over PHX...we match up well against them.
Why are you bringing all this negativity bullfuck to the forums when we just won? If I checked in his thread without knowing the final score i would have thought that we lost.

Amare got going in the 4th, 14 pts or something. Spurs admit they can't stop him, no big deal. He got under his avg against us tonight.

Im looking at the game objectively, and I saw a piss poor effort in the 4th to give a dead team life, and a dead team momentum going into game 4.

it's good to worry, and from what I've heard so are the spurs. What makes Phoenix so scarey is they are very consistent. If they want to go an slug it out on D with the spurs, good luck to them. Their best hope is to run and gun and maybe outscore SA.

They also have the best winning percentage of any team in any professional sport during those same years. (I'm not conceding that they have "always" had problems in the fourth - just letting it go for now.) Get it? The best winning percentage of ANY team in ANY professional sport. And you're going to sit at your keyboard and slam the way he runs the team? Great idea.
You're right... the Spurs structured offense sucks. The team will never have any success playing this way. They should fire Pop and bring in someone more qualified. Maybe they should have the candidates walk on water as part of the interview process?

Considering what the Spurs have been doing in the fourth quarter this series, this might be a top ten worst post ever.

Re: Way too close at the end
The Spurs did have a few more empty trips (ET) in the 4th than they did the first 2 games. I guess after averaging 5 or 6 4th qtr. ETs in the first 2 games, tonight indicates a death spiral. :lol

Uh the Spurs have managed to outscore the league's top offense in an open court game three times in this series. That horrible structured offense that Pop runs has managed to execute damn near flawlessly in the 4th quarters of two road games but no, Pop is horrible and needs to go.
Fuck, how many years does D'Antoni have left on his deal?
