Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
They have to carry 13 players so who do you think they will get?
I wish Dominique Archie was ready. He would be a good long defensive and offensive forward. He currently plays for the Toros.
And who in their right mind really thinks the Spurs will bust up the chemistry of this team, with a league leading winning record, I might add, to make a trade????????????????????
That is why I can't understand all the "trade" threads on this site.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
The problem is that Pop will not likely play someone without experience with the Spurs s"ystem" so he would at least know the system but I would prefer of the two Marcus Cousin over Archie from Toros.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Maybe Jawad Williams if Ferry liked him in Cleveland and if Pop/RC are still listening to Ferry after Danny Green fell out.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Jawad on a 10-day contract.

Who ever he gets isn't going to see the court, Anderson will be back soon and he'll be fighting for court time.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Sign Udoka.......oh wait.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Jawad Williams looks promising. If they go the Toros route, I would like to see Lance Thomas get a shot over Cousins. There are barely enough big rotation minutes for Splitter as it is.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
"Men", not "Man". It'll be a revolving door of 10 day contracts to tryout for next year's roster.

From Austin Toros D League: Dominique Archie, a So. Carolina 6'7" F who plays both forward positions and was All-SEC Second Team and made the All-Defensive Team.

Guys, he can barely play at the D-League level right now. He might be a candidate next season.

Yes, he was barely cleared to play ball before the D-League draft in November.

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Tiago Splitter
Rank: #4
Vitals: 6-11 245
Position: PF/C
NBA Comparison: Al Horford with more skills
Status: unrestricted free agent (he has a player option on his contract) - draft rights held by the San Antonio Spurs so another team would have to trade for his rights before signing him.
My Assessment: Splitter is a legit 6-11 big man that is known for his team defense and his efficient offense. He is experienced and consistent and he could be used as a 4 or 5 on either end of the court in the NBA. He is a very steady player and is surely a target of a lot of NBA teams. Potential NBA starting PF or starting C.
NBA Scout Assessment: An NBA scout said this of Splitter, "Not being able to sign Splitter after the draft might have cost the Spurs a championship or two".
What's up with that? Our extra guy is already here, he just sees no playing time.
More skills that Al Horford? Is this the same guy or did we get a body double?

a dream choice and Pop has gone after older vets and gotten something out of them in the past:
Rasheed Wallace
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/p...urn=nba-263240
Pierce is trying to recruit him back but the SAS IMO need him more than the Cs with their crowded lineup of bigs once Perkins comes back.
He in limited minutes can space the floor as well as Bonner and surely even at his advanced age defend better - in his prime one of the best PF anbd center defenders ever.

That would be a nice pickup to have in the playoffs. Just dont bite us in the ass with Techs.

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
I would love to get 'Sheed, but it doesn't seem like he wants to play in SA.
If the Spurs could pull that off however, I would make an offer to Phoenix for Grant Hill.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs weren't exploring that option with Sheed as we speak.
It may be why it is taking them so long to get that 13th man, negotiations. I think the Spurs have more money to spend now too.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Sheed with no conditioning at this point in the season... I doubt it. If he was already playing with another team, maybe. He really respects Pop and the Spurs system, and has said so on many occasions, but he's a higher profile player, bigger markets and such.

Stranger things have happened.
Who would have thought Glenn Robinson would become a Spur?

No thanks to Sheed. Hes always been a knucklehead, who never played up to his enormous talent. Watching him in Boston, he almost never posted up, just hung out around the 3-point line. Sheed didn't seem to care too much about defense either. If he wasn't motivated enough to play for a contender in Boston, what makes you think he will with the Spurs? Stay retired Sheed.

I'd rather have her now.
Can we get Greg Oden in a wheelchair? He could defend better than Bonner.
Too bad we cant find a way to get Gortat. I wonder what that would require.
Is Kevin Love available?
Was Karl Malone serious in his shoe commercial? :)

Didn't he talk shit about us last year right after he signed with the Celtics? Something about not respecting how we did things or something like that...or am I just crazy?

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Hopefully this isn't a trend the Spurs follow, but the Hawks and Clippers both signed players (Damien Wilkins and Jarron Collins respectively) to 10 day contracts, that they waived a few days prior.
Today was the first day Spurs could sign someone to a 10 day contract, and the 19th is the deadline to sign someone.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Unfortunately, I think it is a trend the Spurs will follow. If they were that interested in anyone else, they'd have signed them by now.
Waiving Udoka was about keeping their options open in the event they were intrigued enough with anyone else to sign them and pinching pennies in the process.
The vets, like Hayes and Pavlovic, they've had months to sign and haven't. The younger players, if they were still interested in auditioning them, Green would have been given an actual look and maybe a few others. Really, this probably came down to Udoka or Williams. They probably figure, at this point in the season, why bring in a player who'd have to learn the system and isn't markedly better? We're talking about the 13th man when fully healthy. We're almost halfway through the season, so barring a rash of injuries, no one in this spot is going to play enough for Pop to develop a comfort level with them anyway. Even though it's blatantly obvious that Udoka is no longer an NBA player, Pop has at least somewhat of a comfort level with him, having coached him for two plus seasons.
-
Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
I'm a little surprised that Spurs still haven't signed a player. Even if he sucks, he would still be useful to play garbage time. I don't think money is a problem. Spurs have a little margin below the tax and saving few days of a min salary is very little. My guess is that Spurs are closely watching the D-League showcase and will sign the most interesting D-League SF.

Pavlovic signed a 10 day with Dallas.
Waiving Udoka was about not letting his contract guarantee for the rest of the year, nothing else.

I know he did. My point was, if they were interested in him or someone of his ilk, they'd have signed them by now.
Keeping their options open was a part of it, I believe (in addition to pinching pennies). Williams, who they've had in for workouts a few times over the years, was recently cut, as was Carney. The D-Leauge Showcase is going on right now, as well. Their was/is a chance they could talk themselves into someone else.
It's just like them abruptly waiving Green after six days and signing Udoka when they did. That wasn't by chance. That was the last day that teams could sign someone and have them be eligible to be traded by the trade deadline. So since they were probably going to make that move anyway in a few weeks, they did it early so that they had more flexibility as far as trades go. They probably don't expect to make one, but it makes sense to have as much flexibility as possible just in case.

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Spurs should be knocking down the door of Sheed. He's the best shot you got at getting Bonner off the court - he's old, he plays D and he shoots the 3.

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Get Latrell Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year, $21 million contract extension saying, "I've got my family to feed," and has fallen on tough times. I think I saw him outside the At&T Center holding a "Will shoot some baskets and choke the coach for 8 milly a year."

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Rashweed has no game left. He hasn't had any in two years. He would be one of the worst things to happen to this team because Pop would play him, and he'd screw up the rotation (32-6 rotation). He's a shithead to boot, although as I recall he and Tim are friendly.
D Leaguer is the best bet.

Re: Who do you think will be the Spurs 13th man?
Still no one as 13 Th (and 14 th and 15th) man...
I wander how much we are under the tax level...and if we could sign someone other than the necessary signing (by NBA rule) of the 13th man.
Imho always better to have the highest number of players available (if we can, I think that well before playoffs time we should better be 15 than 13)...it's good for not playing guys that are gonna play in the play offs in garbage time, it's good 'cause anyway ther's still ans always some little talent out there and it's good 'cause anything can happen and some guy could incredibly surprise (see the "Neal case").
The only important thing is to sign players that behave, are supportive and not ask for minutes that the coach don't even think to give them...on this regard I think that (still) having the best record should help.

Don’t bet on Elliott as an option as the team’s 13th player
Posted on January 14, 2011 at 12:10 pm by Tim Griffin
For the first time all season, Spurs color analyst and former standout player Sean Elliott shot with the team during their Friday practice as they prepared for their game against Dallas tonight.
Despite starting rustily from the foul line, the 42-year-old Elliott showed his familiar touch from deep in the corners.
The Spurs are actively looking for a 13th player to join the roster.
But some of Elliott’s former teammates jokingly said they didn’t think he could help the team.
“There’s too much wine in his system,” guard Tony Parker said. “I don’t think he could last 20 games.”
If Elliott was to return he would make history as the first Spur player to see action with the team in four different decades.
But don’t expect it to happen. Elliott is much more comfortable in his new role with the organization than starting his playing career over again after a gap of nearly 10 years.
