Pierce is trying to recruit him back but the SAS IMO need him more than the Cs with their crowded lineup of bigs once Perkins comes back.
He in limited minutes can space the floor as well as Bonner and surely even at his advanced age defend better - in his prime one of the best PF anbd center defenders ever.
That would be a nice pickup to have in the playoffs. Just dont bite us in the ass with Techs.Quote:

It may be why it is taking them so long to get that 13th man, negotiations. I think the Spurs have more money to spend now too.
Sheed with no conditioning at this point in the season... I doubt it. If he was already playing with another team, maybe. He really respects Pop and the Spurs system, and has said so on many occasions, but he's a higher profile player, bigger markets and such.

Hopefully this isn't a trend the Spurs follow, but the Hawks and Clippers both signed players (Damien Wilkins and Jarron Collins respectively) to 10 day contracts, that they waived a few days prior.
Today was the first day Spurs could sign someone to a 10 day contract, and the 19th is the deadline to sign someone.
Unfortunately, I think it is a trend the Spurs will follow. If they were that interested in anyone else, they'd have signed them by now.
Waiving Udoka was about keeping their options open in the event they were intrigued enough with anyone else to sign them and pinching pennies in the process.
The vets, like Hayes and Pavlovic, they've had months to sign and haven't. The younger players, if they were still interested in auditioning them, Green would have been given an actual look and maybe a few others. Really, this probably came down to Udoka or Williams. They probably figure, at this point in the season, why bring in a player who'd have to learn the system and isn't markedly better? We're talking about the 13th man when fully healthy. We're almost halfway through the season, so barring a rash of injuries, no one in this spot is going to play enough for Pop to develop a comfort level with them anyway. Even though it's blatantly obvious that Udoka is no longer an NBA player, Pop has at least somewhat of a comfort level with him, having coached him for two plus seasons.
I'm a little surprised that Spurs still haven't signed a player. Even if he sucks, he would still be useful to play garbage time. I don't think money is a problem. Spurs have a little margin below the tax and saving few days of a min salary is very little. My guess is that Spurs are closely watching the D-League showcase and will sign the most interesting D-League SF.

It's just like them abruptly waiving Green after six days and signing Udoka when they did. That wasn't by chance. That was the last day that teams could sign someone and have them be eligible to be traded by the trade deadline. So since they were probably going to make that move anyway in a few weeks, they did it early so that they had more flexibility as far as trades go. They probably don't expect to make one, but it makes sense to have as much flexibility as possible just in case.
