I think the last 4 opponents might be literally the lowest ranked offenses in the entire NBA.. so i wouldnt put too much of it on the Spurs defense although you have to give some credit to the team for keeping the opposition below their averages.
Anyway.. with the personnel the Spurs choose to put out on the floor... it is very difficult/almost impossible to be anything more than a decent defensive team. They will obviously have a couple of fluke nights where they defend a little better than normal and the opposition just flat out sucks.. such as against the Lakers.
Over the last 10 games the Spurs Opp FG % has been 41.7%--best in the NBA. This includes the Knicks and Celtics. During that strectch they have given up the 4th lowest total of points per game over that stretch. Some of the posters on this board crack me up. Earlier in the season they were complaining that the Spurs defense needed to improve. Not that it is showing definite signs of improving they dismiss it because the other teams were poor competition. :bang
7th Defense in the league
not bad for a #1 offense in the league
:wow :wow
What you better be looking at is that big black fucking thug breathing down your neck coming for first place.
NY game was a debacle, but Boston hit A LOT of long 2s - the shot that the Spurs defense is perfectly happy allowing (at least to anybody not named Dirk).
You're going to have some games where the opposition just gets hot from 18 feet and there's only so much you can do (although the team still almost won that game on the road). The belief - right or wrong - is that the odds of anyone staying hot from that range for 4 times in 7 games is slimmer than it would be from other locales on the floor.
Thanks for mentioning this, as this league is all about matchups. Tough matchups are the Knicks and the Magic. The Celtics not so much, they just execute perfectly on the offensive end, but the Spurs still could have won the game on the second night of a back to back.
Do you mean the Lakers? Well, I am looking forward to their next 10 games which includes opponents like OKC, Utah, Boston, Denver, Dallas, Houston, LAC and of course the Spurs. Most of the games are home games, but still this stretch of games will show if their current run is for real ...
That's really good! Defense is really improving it looks like!
