Scratch another potential Vaporware Award winner off the list. Prey 2, announced shortly after the original sci-fi shooter from 3D Realms and Human Head Studios shipped in 2006, is alive and well. As announced by ZeniMax Media today, Bethesda Softworks is now working with Human Head on the sequel, and Prey 2 will be released sometime in 2012.
In development at 3D Realms for nearly a decade before being handed off to Human Head Studios, Prey overcame the obstacles to become a critical and commercial success. In the wake of 3D Realms' implosion over Duke Nukem Forever in 2009, Zenimax Media acquired the rights to the franchise.
"We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2," project lead Chris Rhinehart said in a statement. "Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We're excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are."
Bethesda is saving specifics about the shooter for the May issues of Official Xbox Magazine and PlayStation: The Official Magazine. The publisher did note Prey 2 is being developed using the id Tech 5 engine from id Software, the same engine being used to power upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter Rage.
Prey 2 is being developed for Windows PCs, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game is scheduled for launch sometime in 2012.

Nice, liked the first one - especially the level design. Hopefully they can keep up the good work. First part totally suprised me with how good it was.

I agree on level design, the game was awesome.... Sadly it was extremely underrated because it was pretty much vapor-ware by the time it came out. If my memory serves me correct, Prey was going to be the next game from 3D realms BEFORE the next Duke Nukem. It was a wonder it was released at all!

Yeah, thats it.
The intro to the game was epic, "Dont fear the Reaper" playing on the juke box as an alien ship rips the roof off of the bar. :lol
