Gregg Popovich on Tiago Splitter:
"Tiago is going to give you that every night. He's going to bust his butt to rebound and play defense. He's going to give you that grunt that every team needs and every coach loves."

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Won't be easy but we can definitely win this!
Next 4 games will show some serious resilience if we can gut them out without Timmy!
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
That quote from Pop is interesting, we'll have to see if that holds up till the playoffs.

Same.
Game starts at 10:30 PM for me.
The Spurs better win. I'm not for waiting half a day to watch them lose.

Yep. I dont see why not.
Not having Duncan is a bad thing but it shouldn't matter too much that they cant win without him. Well at least to teams like the Nuggets and the Hawks.

The Spurs have plenty of weapons, even without Timmy...they should win this game without too much difficulty.

Denver has a lot of weapons, too, and is playing solid ball right now.
I think the Spurs will be able to hang, but I expect it to be a tough game.
I guess only time will tell.

Manu says loss of Melo/Billups makes Nuggets "more unpredictable." Said team had to study Denver more than in previous meetings. #spurs

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
This should be a really fun game. Neither team has any tape on anybody. The Lakers and Suns set the record for scoring last night. The Spurs and Nuggs could top that in regulation.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
This will be a tough game. Denver is playing great.

Denver is a tough matchup for the Spurs defensively. They have a lot of long bodies that can score. The good news is that the Nuggets aren't that great defensively (they allow the most ppg of any WC playoff team). The Spurs will have to play above par team D and uptempo offense to win this game. Tony and Manu will both have to have big games and Blair/McDyess/Splitter will have to play focused defense to make up for Duncan's absence. RJ, Hill or Neal will have to be an X factor.
Should be a fun game to watch.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
as everyone else, i wanna see Splitter play and play well hopefully. it'll be interesting to see how tired he gets since he's not really even in game shape and he's playing at a higher altitude. he's also playing against a physical front line. it'll be interesting to see how he handles himself, if he gets intimidated or not. it's definitely an opportunity for him to make a statement.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Splitter is well out of game shape. The altitude should give him some problems also. Not sure how many minutes he can handle at the moment. Hopefully around 25. He played that last game and was clearly fatigued leading to missed layups and him slowly getting back on D. Throwing him out there for anymore then that right off the bat isn't the right thing to do for him or the team.

im just hoping the officials let him be somewhat physical out there. he picked up 2-3 bs calls against the Warriors.
I think he'll start and probably play 20-25 minutes i hope. Pop's baby'd him all season long. I say just throw him out there and see if sinks or swims.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Should be interesting to see if he can keep with a very improved Nene since they play together on the brazillian national team and all.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Would be nice to win this one comfortably, but .500 ball gets us HCA...that said, I think we go something like 8-4 to finish the season, and rest the starters for the last 2-3 games.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
im much more confident about this game than the Portland game. I actually think we go 2-1 on the trip with victories tonight and against Memphis.
i always enjoy when the Denver crowd boos Manu. They hate him down there especially since he was close to being a Nugget.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
I think Bonner is due for a good 3-pt shooting game.
He hasn't had one in quite some time now.

They hate him because he kicks their ass.
BTW, how scary deep is this team when the tenth and eleventh guys are capable of leading the team in scoring and/or rebounding? If only they had a backup point guard. Is it too late to pick up AD?

Since I have been wanting to see Splitter get time, and since I think the Spurs are better defensively with him in the rotation, and since I think the Spurs can't get past the Lakers or the Celtics without some lock-down defense, I think this couldn't be a better turn of events. It's too bad that Timmy had to get hurt, and I certainly wish Pop were smart enough to realize that defense has been buttering his bread all these years, but short of that, I'll take a little divine intervention. :)

Why start Splitter instead of Blair or someone else? Pop: "We're a small team. We need some size out there."

I'm thinkin that means about 6 or 7 games for Duncan. Still good news. Plenty of time to get back on the court and into a little rhythm before the playoffs

Exactly. I think most people assume that Pop really meant he'll be back in 5 games. I see it as 8 games max. Either way, as long as he's back with a couple of games left, we should be fine.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Duncan will miss 4 or 5 games 'for sure'. We wait it out to see when he'll actually get back.
Quote:
..."Once he gets back on the court in a couple of days, we’ll be able to tell more,” Popovich said. “But four or five games for sure.”

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
He doesn't need more than 25 minutes,
I'd rather see old man McD get some PT along with Boner and Novakaine.
Although I think Bonner has been playing awful as of late

It will be interesting to see how the Spurs play against this new look Nuggets team. I want to see a ton of ball movement on offense, and solid team defense.

Good news on Timmy ... now lets keep that game competitive!
Is Afflalo playing?
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
Honestly, this is why RJ was brought in and why he is paid the big bucks. Spurs needed more firepower. They needed someone who was an athlete and who could fill it up, especially when one of the big 3 wasn't cutting it. Now is that time. Get hot going into the playoffs, RJ. We need you.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Nuggets - March. 23
I think its been obvious since preseason, with blair starting, that spurs are a small team, and will get pummelled in the playoff by the laker bigs. Guess, its better late then never, that pop realized it.

maybe if Pop would call an iso play once in a while for him. I'd like to see him on the block now that we dont have a legit post threat.
