There was a time when NBA championship teams did not have parades. There was a time when NBA championship teams did not have banner ceremonies the following year.
The belts are original because no other NBA championship team did it before. Sure, it's kind of poking fun of the wrestling. But, if you can't see why it's original or creative for basketball players to floss championship belts, then I don't know what to say.

If your team has such a inferiority complex that they need a reminder of their championship around their waist, then more power to them. Did the Spurs go out and get "We're #1" baseball hats made after Phil Jackson questioned the validity of their 99 championship? No.
Personally I think all the belts do is make them look like big blue and white cigars. And the Spurs are about to smoke 'em.
Pop would have pole axed the first Spur dumb enough to bring one of those things out. Spurs actually believe in humility. Pop didn't even want them to call them themselves the champions the following year because he said that was last years' team. Pistons seem to have this insecurity constantly needing validation from without. Not the Spurs style. Fact is as players they simply appear more mature and intelligent.
