Bruce did a great job. Rip pretty much got Bowned. While Bowen's offense was pretty disgusting (I began to cringe every time he took those threes) Ill take a game like that any day of the week.
I dunno, Bowen played well but Rip missed a lot of open shots...
Bruce always plays good defense. Rip missed a lot of open looks. He even missed a wide open lay-up. For Rip to have 21 field goal attempts shows that he did have his opportunities. Bruce contested many of them. But, Rip flat out missed a lot of good looks as well. Of course, absolutely Bruce did a good job tonite.
BB missed mad open shots, but he made it up by shutting people down as usuall. what's new
Larry Brown gave him his due, what more do you want?
I'm calling it now: Detroit will leave him open in game 2 to go after Manu, and Bowen will respond with 6 threes.
Bowen isn't going to miss that much again, especially at home.
Isn't that always the case? :hatQuote:

No doubt Bowen stopped what Rip wanted to do on most occasions. But when Rip did shake BB, he missed shots he usually makes. That's all I'm saying.Quote:

I noticed after that Rip was never the same.
Ginobili unnerved Hamilton. Absolutely right. Drew an offensive foul, matter of fact.
I will admit to one thing.... Detrioti is a great basketball team.
The entire ESPN crew is giving him props, saying that even though he went 0-6 he had a really great game. He rode Rip pretty well I'd say.
The spurs matchup well to Detroit not only because of Bowen on Hamilton but Ginobili can do a good job on Hamilton to.
key stat - rip only one free throw
In the first six minutes of the game, Bowen played like crap against Rip -- Rip just happened to be missing. But after that, Bowen adjusted and locked him down. 7-for-21 is pretty sweet.
I agree with those that said it was Manu that took him out of the game early...Manu's lateral quickness...Rip couldn't get around him and it did frustrate him...
You gotta give credit to Bowen in the second half though...what Manu did wasn't still bothering him...
The thing is...it's not that unusual for Rip to have a game like tonight, the guy only shot like 44% during the season...and he's about a 30% shooter from 3...he does tend to make them when it counts though. But Rip did miss some wide open shots, wide open. If he makes those he's shooting about what he always shoots.
Meanwhile...Prince posting our guys up should be a terrifying sight to all Spurs fans...he is not gonna miss that many point blank layups again...
Bigg Dogg is definitely the answer against him because he's just too damn big to post up...
But meanwhile I still think he's the guy Bowen should be guarding...Bruce struggles(compared to the rest of his game) when he is getting posted up too...but he's still better at defending it than Manu IMO.
Manu matches up well with Rip...he's just not built to match up with Prince...Bowen isn't either, but he is an All NBA 1st team defender. I think it should be reveresed...we'll see how many layups Prince misses in game 2.
Bowen played well. At first he looked kind of lost but then he adjusted to RIP's play. He defended RIP pretty well and it will be like that the whole series. The Pistons really need Billups and someone else to produce because RIP won't be a big factor which is why the Spurs will win the Finals.
Early on the sight of Hamilton abusing Bowen and Rasheed abusing Tim down low was downright scary. Things tightened up luckily, and I was incredibly happy to hold Detroit to 69. It had been far to long since the Spurs had a Spur-like game where the other team struggles to crack 70.
As for Bruce getting no recognition, this is pretty much expected of him, thats why he is getting no recognition. Doesn't mean people dont appreciate the job he does :)
Bowen did great on Rip. Rip struggled against him, but he's talented enough to get open and find tough shots, some of which he made. I respect that Rip (like Marion, unlike Allen and Anthony) just goes out and plays, rather than whining about Bowen's D.
I totally agree with whoever it was that called it - they were leaving Bowen wide open in Game 1, because he was shooting bricks, but in Game 2 (or maybe Game 3) Bowen will knock down 5 or 6 of those 3's and the Spurs will win by like 20. If Bowen had made even half his open shots this game would have been a blowout.
why doesnt anyone but us spurs fans respect bruce as being the best off the ball defender in the league... if anyone watched the game twice you would have noticed that bruce didnt only stop him from getting open shots, he also stopped any sort of play that they where trying to run at getting him the ball, he would always be in the way between bruce and the ball, not only that but any time rip tried to run a bit and get open bruce was always one step ahead of them... he needs to make a book on defense... if i could play that good d id get picked first every time in pickup games
Definitely a good job on Rip last night. When Rip gets frustrated, you can see him start to rush everything and he was doing that in the 4th last night. Hopefully LB can find some creative variations to get Rip cleaner looks going forward.
One thing to watch over the course of the series is how they call all the hand-checking and grabbing and pushing off that goes on when Rip is running the screens. That's an area of the game that can really be inconsistent depending upon the crew of referees. They let a lot of it go last night and it seemed to benefit the Spurs in that it got into Rip's head a bit. Usually he's the one that uses the little push offs or bumps to get into the defenders heads.
It looked to me like he was tired. This isn't eddie jones guarding him this is bruce freakin bowen. Bowen's defense and the short layoff wore down rip. i don't expect rip to shoot a very good % in this series.
Against any other team he can get an open 6-8 ft shot against the spurs you have bigs flyin at you and a defense that rotates quick enough to cover an open guy if he decides to pass.
This is rip's stat line:
39min 7-21fg 0-13fg 0-1ft 1rb 1ass 2to 0stl 0blk 2pf 14pts
I was going to reawaken the bowen can shut down rip thread. I see rip doing a little better then this. I expect him to shoot in the high 30% from the field and to have a limited number of assists.
What's worried me most about rip is his ability to pass the ball to his bigs when he's in that 10ft range when defenders come up to challenge his shot. So for me the big sta was 1ass and 2to.
He got away with quite a few in the 4th quarter. He was pushing off big time. I just hope that if bowen fouls they call it and vice versa.Quote:

Call the pushoffs and call the grabs or just let them go at it. And I thought for the most part the refs did a pretty good job of it last night of letting them just do that.Quote:

Great defense but man that dude stinks it up on offense.

You can look at all the film you want, that will prepare you yes, but until you lace em up, get out there and try and bust through the screens, thats when youll finally find out how to do it.
The defense on hamilton in the second half was outstanding.
I think the only adjustments that need to be made would be the defense on Billups.
Way too many open shots for Billups.
I don't mind if he gets shots. Just from watching the mia series he looks like he's inconsistent as is the entire det team except rip, but bowen has and will shut him down. He seems to make bad decisions and take bad shots. I'll let him take all the shots he wants, he won't be so hot next game.Quote:

I was still pissed at the fact that he missed open shots and even when he upfaked and tried to get a closer look he still missed. I just wish he was a little more consistent on offense but loved the D.Quote:

Both are capable of putting up numbers occasionally, but they both suck on offense.
