Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
And what really is ironic about the whole thing is that the Pisons are an awesome defensive team....so I GUARANTEE you they are doing the exact same things, without question. So that would kind of make him a hypocrite, don't you think?
That makes him even worse than Carter or Allen, IMO, because they don't even know how to play defense to know the difference.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Bowen is dirty, but he is our dirty player so it is ok with me.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
This is good news, Bowen is getting to Rip, and once a player starts complaining about Bowen's defense, he is frustrated.
BRUUUCIEEE might just have an awesome game tonight.

Who was that masked man? Man?????. What a pussy! :lol
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
You know a player's in your head when you start complaining about his defense. And Bruce being in Rip's head is EXACTLY what we want. He's toast.
Rip claiming Ben is better because Bruce 'gets away with stuff' is pretty funny. Ben gets away with more shit (shoving, pushing, grabbing) than, well, Kenyon Martin.
Pistons are scared. They should be. They played their best, and they still couldn't break it open till 1 hot shooting 4th quarter. Spurs are the better team. Spurs need to go for the kill.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Rip, Rip, Rip. I was so prepared to like you as much as Reggie Miller. You were poised to become one of my favorite Eastern Conference players. And then you went and complained to the media. This doesn't make your talents any less, but it makes you a less enjoyable player.
Good players shake it off and keep at it. You? went crying about how you aren't getting your way. You tried to create contact. You tried to jump into him. You tell your bigs to keep hitting him?
Jerk.
How about you just go out there and play the game? If you are talented, you can shake him off. You can get around him.
Lord help me, you make me admire Kobe Bryant. Cause as arrogant an ass as he is - he gets it. He goes out there and plays hard and does what he can to shake Bruce. He compliments him on being a tough defender and learns from him. I can't believe I'm going to say this - why can't you be more like Kobe Bryant?
And yeah, Bruce will be in early foul trouble. He won't complain about it - but it'll be there. The worst part of refs in the inconsistency and the need to make up for bad calls in previous games. So rather than calling it fairly and saying Rip's wrong about his complaints, and have the effect of making certain the players and coaches don't pull the media into it, they appease those who complain to show they ARE TOO calling it fair! See? I just whistled him for contact, even though it was legal contact!
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Rip gets away with much more shoving and grabbing when he trying to get open than when BB is guarding him. Plus the Pistons do a moving screen almost every time. Plus the Pistons are starting to take head shots on Parker and Manu.
I think we are going to see some angry players tonite.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Go look at game tape from this series and you'll see that Rip uses his off arm to clear out on Bowen almost every time Bowen guards him close. He shouldn't complain if he's trying to make the refs look at the situation and favor him. Because if they look closely, Rip is going to actually get called for some offensive fouls.
The reason Rip probably brought this up is because a reporter probably asked it. He's not normally a complaining wuss like the rest of Bowen's Bitches. Rip had 24 points in game 3 but took 23 shots to get them -- so I don't think that he has Bowen "figured out" like that other article indicated.
Bowen is damn crafty. He uses all his body to guard people, especially his feet and legs. And players hate it.
He does his job.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
I'll take 24 points on 23 shots by Rip Hamilton any day of the week.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Exactly what I said Kori. Good notice.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
I've changed my mind recently about Rip. I do feel like he's whining a bit too much after hearing his interview when he talked about Bruce Bowen. Rip and Ben are starting to frustrate me as a Piston fan with all of the bitching. Rasheed doesn't bother me so much because I know it's just his personality and he was like that long before a championship could have gotten his head big.
I do think there is some merit to the fact that Bruce Bowen plays a little dirty and gets away with some things because of his reputation.
And, whoever said that Ben gets away with a lot of shoving and more contact than most post players, you are absolutely correct. Ben does get away with a lot more than the average defender because of his reputation. I guess it's a luxury for both the Pstons and the Spurs to have players that often times get the benefit of the doubt with respect to calls.
I wish Rip would stop complaining and just play. And, while really watching game 3, it's obvious that Rip Hamilton has become much more physical in his own right with the clutching and grabbing, so turn around if fair play. I agree that it's a sign that Bruce is in Rip's head a little bit. Hopefully, for the Pistons, I hope Rip can channel his frustrations to work that much harder and play that much better, similar to game 3. It would make the match-up that much better.
I understand why a lot of you Spurs fans get annoyed with all of the whining. But, hey, Pistons are my team and I'll remain loyal. Same way Spurs fans will try to somewhat defend Manu's flopping or Bruce's "somewhat" dirty style of defending. That's why we're fans.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Of course Bowen gets away with a lot. Like Artest gets away with a lot. Like any defensive minded player gets away with a lot. It's nothing new.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Bowen is a freaking HACK! I can't believe the refs let him get away with the stuff he does! Anyone that is not a Spurs homer can easily see this.
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
Yeah, this was embarassing to read this morning here in Detroit. The sports talk 1270 guys were coming down on Rip pretty hard for this. Hard to defend that.
The problem isn't the fouls. The problem isn't really the fact that Rip's complaining.
The thing that worries me the most is that it's obvious that Bowen's got into Rip's head, and as a Pistons fan, I'm worried this is going to translate to problems on the court.
Shake it Rip. Shut up and play ball. If you don't play, we don't win. It's pretty point blank.

You see, this is what I thought Detroit basketball was all about! A very nice attitude from a Troit fan! I honestly thought this was the type of attitude Troit had, and I hope they will soon go back to this type of attitude and lets see the champions defend their title instead of talking about the refs!
Re: Rip: Bowen Gets Away with a Lot
On the bright side, Bowen appears to be in Rip's head. On the not so bright side the refs are going to be calling it tight on Bowen tonight.

Self-indictment.
If you leave your feet you're open game. That's the way it is. 9 times out of 10 the offense player will and should get that call. Especially if the defender breaks the plain of verticality
