Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
No, the point is that people who aren't a parent or aren't about to become a parent have no clue what it's like to be one or about to be one. And when you are or about to be one, you see things a hell of a lot differently.

Look dumbass, I didn't say you don't understand.
I only said that you might change your mind once you are married and ready to have a kid. And you might not.
So get off your sarcastic high horse and drop the prick attitude.

Yeah you are putting words in people's mouths. I only said maybe you'll think differently (which means maybe you will, maybe you won't) and that it was a personal decision. It didn't say anything about you not be worthy or not understanding being you don't have kids yet. So why don't you just simmer down and check yourself.

Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
Dude. Calm the hell down. She gave you an out to take - you should take it gracefully, because you look like a total ass.
It has nothing to do with being better or contracts or anything. It has to do with family and the importance of family to individuals.
My friend just had her baby 10 weeks early and nearly died on the table due to complications. Her husband would never have forgiven himself if she passed away and he wasn't there. Childbirth is routine, but it is also still dangerous and all the best hospitals can't guarantee a routine birth.
For those reasons I would never begrudge a player who decided to be with his wife at that time, even if it's game 7.
You may disagree. Fine. But you don't need to be an idiot. If something were to happen to her or the baby, you think a ring or the 'love' of a city would comfort him?

Some people just shouldn't breed...you are one of them.

Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
Best wishes to PJ's wife and the little one. No good thoughts for PJ, because he is actively seeking employment with someone than the Spurs (j/k).
As far as Tim goes, he's played in the finals twice, he's never had a kid before. Simply from that I wouldn't blame him for not playing should the kid decide to make an arrival at an inoportune time.

Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
i'm calm
the thing is people in here are acting like having a child is some great skill that you posses and must be smart and mature enough to do so
ask some little 14 year old thug and his 12 year old gf what it involved
i respect parents and i have the most respect for tim duncan, thats why i think he'll choose to play, fine we disagree, but dont make it seem like im scoffing the families or amy duncan
-
Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
if her water breaks during a finals game, she better go straight to the sbc center and she can have the baby on the sidelines if need be...with the best medical staff and equipment available of course.... :smokin

I think the point is that you don't seem to acknowledge that it would be reasonable for Tim to choose to be with his wife. You seem absolutely focused on this notion that Tim somehow owes the Spurs and the City of San Antonio his participation in a game, even when his wife is giving birth. I think, mookie, that's where the problem is. I don't think anyone is trying to suggest that you're somehow a bad dude, so don't take it that way.
P.S. -- I can't think of an employer that wouldn't allow an employee an off-day or two where child birth is involved. At bottom, the Spurs are Tim's employer.

That would be such a wonderful TV moment. And then after the cord's cut the Spurs could call a timeout so Tim can go over and lift the child up before the SBC center like in the opening to "Roots"
"Behold, the only thing in this world greater than yourself!"

Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
fromwaydowntown you need to go back and read some of my first posts in this thread
and yes duncan owes the city of san antonio, his fans and his team just like the city and his fans and team owe him
duncan has a great life, he's left alone, we embrace him for what he is he's got a contract that i know that none of us can comprehend, he's played here 8 years and been voted an allstar everytime possible, he understands that, he's an intelectual, he also understands people wont be mad because he's got the ultimate excuse for missing a game, he knows it would be a hard choice to make
but me in my spursfanforlife opinion would expect him to play in the game and fly home afterwards, thats what id do, but then again im a childless, nofamily having liberal

Amen to that.

Re: Did anyone hear that PJ flew back to SA
The birth of Tim Duncan's posterity would make a lovely half time show. I think they should arrange it.
Seriously though, it shouldn't even be a question. I'm sure winning a championship is one of the greatest things an NBA player can ever experience....but it doesn't last forever. In 50 years the memory of seeing his first child entering the world, something that he helped create, will be worth much more to him then a ring.

And it's not about how old you are. It's about you bringing in stupid crap to why people are "against you". All I said is that you might change your mind. And went on this weird tirade about how we are saying you can't have an opinion because you are a childless, young liberal. No one is saying you can't have opinion. I only say MAYBE you'll change you mind when you get older and it's no place for anyone to judge. And you just keep going back to your young, liberal, woe is me diatribe. Just shutup. You stated your opinion. People disagree with you. But cut the crap.
