Cold war = 50 + years of sustained growth and prosperity for the U.S., as well as unparalleled world power and prestige for the Soviets (now Russia).
No doubt some believe ratcheting that back up is a win/win.

China is NOT going to war with us. Not only would they get their asses completely handed to them (they would have no way of transporting troops ANYWHERE in the world without us sinking or shooting them out of the sky) - but beyond that we are, far and away, their biggest client! They would be third world again in short order. Twenty years from now? Probably will be a match at their current growth rate, but not now. Not even close.

False. We would fly over Pakistans airspace and they cant or wont do shit about it because they are in our back pocket. You really think they would shoot us down?

Agreed. China would literally starve if our commerce with them ended.

can you please describe the scenario where China would get their asses handed to them?
at the first sign of US ships surrounding China, we would already be at defcon 1. At the first bomb dropped in China soil, the doomdsday clock will strike 12 o clock.
a few weeks later you and me will be looking for ketchup to season the cadavers that we have to eat to survive the Fallout
