If Tony and Manu are playing, they should be able to pull out the victory.

Jeff McDonald @JMcDonald_SAEN
Spurs vying to become first team to sweep pair of back-to-back-to-backs this season.
Tim Duncan is the only player out tonight for the Spurs tonight in SAC. Boris Diaw and DeJuan Blair will be the starting front court.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Why can't Splitter start?

Surprised that Manu is playing.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
I thought Tony and Manu would sit. Oh well, gives us a chance to continue our win streak.
Hopefully this is just a repeat of the Warriors game so Tony and Manu can sit in the 2nd half, but this may be a tough game.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Gotta put this one away early! Young teams become disinterested quickly.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
I love this. Pop going for the win. Maybe he's just snowing the media and HCA matters to him after all? Besides, the last two times we sat all three, it halted momentum and the team took a while to recover (witness the pasting the Lakers gave us after we lost to Utah).
Keep the momentum going, try to win every game, get HCA over Miami.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Sam Amick
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich can be one of the best quotes in the biz when he wants to be, & today was one of those days. He deemed this the best season yet for PG Tony Parker: "This is his best year. At the offensive end, he's always been able to score. But he's also distributed the ball better than he ever has before and involved other people, so he's done both...At the same time, he's played his best year of defense and his leadership and understanding on the court are his best thus far."

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
So much for getting help from the Raptors against a Wade-less, Bosh-less Heat. Oh well, if the Spurs, Suns, Lakers and Nuggets all win, it'd still be a great night.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
oddly this is a game Spurs really need to win so they can have a lead big enough to strategically throw games in the name of resting players.

-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Dunno if i like Manu playing tonight. I thought we coulda won with just TP playing. But oh well, lets put it away early.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Keep in mind the Kings nearly beat the Spurs at full strength a few weeks ago, and did beat the Spurs at the AT&T center. They are a matchup issue, and on 3 days of rest to boot. This very well could be a loss even with TP and Manu playing.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
I'm actually okay with Manu playing. He still doesn't seem to quite be back at 100%...not sure if he's just coasting, not quite in playing shape, or just getting old. However, as long as he can stay healthy, he could probably use the run to try to find his rhythm.
Unless Tony can play nearly flawless basketball like he did last night every game in the playoffs, I'm not sure how far the Spurs will be able to go with Manu not playing like Manu.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Help me out here. We want the Clips to lose right?

I think Manu's been settling a lot for 3s since his last return from injury, particularly against scrub teams. Prob by design in an effort to minimize the injury risk. He went hard to the rim against LA and Memphis so I think it's just a matter of him saving it for the playoffs.

I think that this is why both Tony and Manu are playing. Because there are a couple of other games that we might really have trouble with and may lose even if they try to avoid losing.
So we need this tonight.

Clipper loss and a laker win pretty much seals the deal for the lakers getting the 3rd.
You should be rooting for the Spurs/PHX/Lakers/Denver to win tonight

I just can't root for LA to win.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Though to be honest a second round match up with the grizz is less than ideal also so I frankly don't care. I'd rather have okc before lal or grz. Better match ups.

The chance of LAL getting to 5th seed is just too strong for me to ingore, even if they end in the same side of the bracket with the Spurs.

I hope they lose, they have to play us and OKC still. 4 game skid right before the playoffs start, they very well could self-destruct in the first round against MEM.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Tbh you don't even have to root for LA to win, GS will just tank the fuck out of it so they might as well not even play it.

Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Question for someone to answer.
If you were in line for a large number of ping pong balls for the lottery, why would you want to win a game that will make you fall as many as 3 or 4 places in the standings?
All the teams just above the Kings are tanking, this means the Kings could end up with the 8 or 9 pick instead of the 4.

Sacto really wants this apparently and there's no point in playing Manu and Tony so many minutes in a meaningless game.

Why do the Kings want to win so badly? It doesn't help them at all. Is it just pride because they're playing the Spurs?

Since the ASG they've been scoring like 112 points a game or something ridiculous like that. They play horrible D, but so far tonight it doesn't look too bad outside of all their fouling.
-
Re: Game Blog: Spurs @ Kings: April 18, 2012 9:00pm CDT
Some shitty calls and offense gone to hell without TP or Manu on the floor. Pretty much done with the Mills honeymoon I think. He can't do anything on the floor. Jackson doesn't have any life in his legs either, and nobody protecting the paint. Bonner pretty useless out there too. TP, Manu and Splitter can't win the game by themselves. They need a fourth or fifth guy to chip in.

Yeah and their fans need some hope after the arena deal fell through and with Tim not out there, they might as well take advantage.

Winning this game goes a long way to ensuring we keep the 1 seed and avoid the Lakers in the 2nd round. If we lose today and OKC wins, the Thunder will reclaim the top spot in the West.
A win against the Kings counts the same as a win against the Lakers in the standings.
