Right. Clippers will have to score 100+ points every game to beat the Spurs. Just can't see them doing it with Paul and Griffin injured and the entire team drained after a 7 game series.
Kind of like how in 2006 the Spurs have a physical series with Sacramento and dropped the next couple of games to the Mavs. They got back into that series, but Clippers are not as good as the 2006 Spurs.
A agree that :
Clippers played us better than Grizz
Clippers bench will not be as good as our bench
Chris Paul will gut out at least one win against us...maybe two.
Spurs in 5. This could have been a reasonable series with a healthy Paul and Blake, but no such luck for LA. Plus Del Negro will surely hand the Spurs a game like he did with Foye in game 6.
I predict that:
Griffin will not be a factor due to his knee injury
Kenyon Martin will foul out of at least one if not two games
Patrick Mills will see some playing time in this series
Tim Duncan is going to have a HUGE series
Reasons why it could go 5 or 6: Paul is still capable of dominating one game. Rust is possible for another.
Reason why it could be a sweep: Vinny Del Negro.
Could go 5, I'm pulling for the Sweep!
Sweep
Clippers aren't much better than Utah.
Another easy series for the Spurs.
The Spurs won't be challenged until the WCF and if they get OK City they will have escaped with the easiest road as possible to the finals.
Sweep, if we are too rusty in game 1 spurs in 5.
Spurs in 5. Spurs will lose one of the back-to-back games, but otherwise this would be a sweep, I think.
Spurs have trouble with guarding quick, undersized guards.
Clippers have 4 of them.
Still, 5 games...max.
Sweep. Rust may be an issue in the first half of Game 1, but the Clips were dead tired to start the game today...they'll be even more gassed on Tuesday.
Easy sweep. Game 4 will be close.
Spurs in 6.
Spurs in 5. They lose game 3 and we will be subjected to 48 hours of how someone finally "figured the Spurs out".
yup. spurs in 5. only losing game 4 due to clippers shooting lights out
Spurs in five. I think the Clippers are flat out running on fumes. Plus, Paul isn't right physically and neither is Griffin. And the short turnaround and condensed scheduling obviously won't help matters. This might sound ridiculous, but I'd go so far as to say they have to steal game one or the series will already be over. At least at the start, the Spurs figure to be rusty and the Clippers may be playing off of sheer adrenaline. Presuming that comes to pass, if they can't win in that scenario, then I don't see one that they could win in (barring debilitating injury to the Spurs, of course).
Also, Pop vs Del Negro has got to be the biggest coaching mismatch in the history of professional sports. I could see the Clippers being in position to win a game, maybe even two and them losing it down the stretch specifically because Pop makes the right moves and Del Negro makes inexplicable ones that cost his team.
Are we that confident with this team? this guys are good an athletic i think it's gonna be a long battle
What was pretty glaring to me was the ineptitude of both the LA and Memphis offenses; right before halftime I was figuring the first team to 60 might win the game. Good rebounding and a little bit of hot shooting at the right time turned it for LA, but none of those shots were high-percentage looks.
While they have decent defenses, neither was stellar in any regard.
The Clippers spend a huge amount of time dribbling the ball around for 22 seconds and then putting up a jumper. Just absolutely horrible shot-selection from them most of the series, yet they managed to win it. The Grizzlies have way more ability to do damage with an inside-out game, but they didn't do it enough.
The best bigs for the Clipps were Reggie Evans and Kenyon Martin. Neither has size, and I expect that Martin has a "property of San Antonio" tattoo somewhere on his person. There's nothing about that front line that scares me. Griffin is showing signs of being a pretty good post player, but he's not overwhelmingly big or long. I'm sure Splitter is used to defending guys who do up and unders in the post.
I can't for the life of me see this series going past five games if the Spurs actually show up and play. Unless they decide to just not rebound at all, or if they suddenly become the Spurs of old who can't score for ten minutes at a stretch, they should be fine.
Wow Jon Barry is the only dude on ESPN predicting a sweep for us.
