You switched out the wrong "carry". Let me start over.
Parker was asked to carry a load bigger than anyone in franchise history has successfully carried to a championship not named Tim Duncan and got pretty darn close to the Finals.
Parker would have had to have carried more load than 2005 Manu. The only player in the ballpark would be 1999 Robinson ... and even he had a Prime Duncan on his side. 2012 Parker had nothing approaching 1999 or 2005 Duncan to help.

That's a little extreme. Parker's not to blame obviously, he's just more tradable at this point in their careers than Manu. That's the only reason people always want to trade Parker. It's not because they're in love with Manu so much as it is he's older.

My thought is if we were able to land a quality big man to put beside Duncan we would be a substantially better team. I am not claiming that there are numerous other point guards who could play better than Parker, what I am saying is that acquiring a solid inside presence at both ends to compliment Duncan is more beneficial to the team then Tony Parker. He is very good but if we could land a mobile power forward who can shoot, defend, and rebound at reasonable high rates would we need an all-star caliber point guard? I would much rather have a weak point guard surrounded by Manu, Kawhi, Duncan, and another good big.

No, the Spurs are thin on PG talent. Perhaps for a better PG, like Paul or Rondo, but its not certain those players would function in the Spurs system.

That's the problem. Overrelying on Parker. The team needs to be able to play well without him. That way there's no head of the snake to cut off.

Assuming we do keep him (which seems to be a safe assumption) how do you combat packing the lane in the playoffs? I mean he could develop a better jumper. But we already have an elite 3-point shooting team. There has to be some sort of adjust we can make to the offense or to Tony's game to help.

Hope our shooters don't lack confidence? I think we need to get more scoring near the basket whether through post-ups, backdoor cuts, or jumpers in the lane. I know Pop wants to avoid inefficient jumpers but we've been beaten the past few seasons because our guys can't take a few steps inside from the 3pt line and knock down a jumper. We can't rely on Parker only.

Yes, and the Thunder need to be able to score against all teams like they did against the Spurs instead of getting 40 each from the big 2 and 20 from Harden. Not going to happen.
You have a shtick and if it works you stay with it until it doesn't. You don't dump it and think that, if you can acquire these random picks or trades for people who either don't want to be in SA (think Odom) or won't fit in if they were here, and think you are going to build a better team. You will be the Jazz or the Rockets in no time flat.
Eventually that shtick will either be better than what others have or it won't. You cannot just go out and acquire a new one that's instantly going to be better. If you want to roll the dice on the lottery and think you are getting back to the show, just look at which teams in the past 20 years have won a ring with a 1st overall they drafted other than SA.
