Utah Interested in Danny Green
The Salt Lake Tribune learned Saturday that San Antonio guard Danny Green (restricted free agent) and veteran guard Roger Mason have interest in Utah. Green received a $2.7 million qualifying offer from the Spurs. But he’s open to exploring his options and a league source close to the guard believes Green could be a perfect fit for a Jazz team that enters free agency needing to address 3-point shooting and perimeter defense — two of Green’s main strengths.

He can gtfo tbh. Shit the bed when it counted.

Re: Danny Green To Utah?
I wouldn't do that if I were you DG lol

Re: Danny Green To Utah?
That's a weird report because you can't really put Danny Green and RMJ in the same sentence. RMJ is a scrub who will sign with anyone who gives him a minimum contract offer ... even if unguaranteed. Green, on the other hand, would need like three times that at minimum.
The Spurs need to keep Green. As for the Jazz, I don't perceive them as a threat. They may make a push for him but I can't imagine them bidding very much when they already have Hayward and Burks at shooting guard (plus their second rounder was a shooting guard and Mo Williams can also play that position). They need a small forward desperately so unless they mistakenly think Green is a small forward, why exactly would they throw big money at him?
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
How long do we have to wait before players can sign? It was previously 15 days wasn't it? I thought I read that they changed it in the new CBA?

He's a RFA, so I guess he's just going after the best deal he can get, knowing/hoping that the Spurs will match the offer.

sign n trade for favors or kanter?? doo it!!!!

Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
They can have him...He's fuckin garbage. He's cut from the same mold as Matt Bonner.

Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
DG playing the field. He wasn't even on anybodies radar until the Spurs coaching staff brought out his talent.. & now he wants to leave a contending team that he puts good minutes in for, for a shit team that thinks they're on the rise because they got Mo Williams.
I hope this fool decides to stay, he's a good fit for the Spurs.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Green is a restricted free agent. The Spurs most likely told him to go shop his talents to set the market. I doubt the FO will even make him an offer until they see if he has any demand around the league.
It's a smart move by both sides.

This right here. Anyone that says DG is POS for leaving a contender looking for money flat out doesn't understand simple economics. The FO is being conservative by letting the market set DG's value.

If DG doesn't play well in the first two rounds it's not even certain we get to when it counts.

Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I doubt he gets very much money, his production was mainly due to SAs system and I think other teams realize that, he never ever had to create his own shot. Everything was just wiiide open corner threes created by SA's ridiculous ball movement and all the creators the Spurs have.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I have no more use for players that shrivel on the big stage.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I'm cutting Danny some slack because he's young and it was his first time in the big stage... Unlike Ginger, I do think he has an upside and chances to improve. I hope the Spurs manage to keep him.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
The world doesn't end if the Spurs lose Danny Green. Nice player with a decent IQ. But he folded in the playoffs. $2.7 mil may be more than he's worth (given the Spurs' current payroll). If he can get more elsewhere, he should probably take it.
It'd be great for the Spurs if they could do a sign-and-trade...

Who would you ass clowns want starting at the two if you just "let him go" like you guys want....?

This. Same thing NO is doing with Gordon.

Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
No need to create another hole in the roster by letting him go.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Even Horry played subpar in 2004, so he deserves another chance. It's not like he choked 7-8 times like Bonner.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Can we sign n trade Green for Hill?

It was his first season getting more than scrub playing time. I give him a pass tbh. It's not the same as the Bonner situation who's choked for 6 years straight in the postseason.
Green is a valuble part of the Spurs' depth, and one of our few young and athletic players that isn't a bonehead on defense like Neal.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
They think he can pass for white.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
He murdered them in the playoffs and can play either wing spot where they have a dearth of talent. He makes a lot of sense for them tbh.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I loved the guy even though he fucked us in the WCF. I'd like to keep him and let him get better.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
There is really no sense in creating another hole on this roster. With the notable exception of the OKC series, and a minor mid-season slump, Green was basically solid. Sure he's got some holes in his game, but he's still a young, developing player, who works hard. Look at the progress he made from last season to this season.
It's for those reasons, I believe Pop and RC really like this kid and that he'll return to the Spurs after all the commotion is over.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Yeah, I have to admit I was really tough on Green after his WCF performance, but it wasn't fair to him because majority of the team sucked that series as well.
The Spurs do have to bring him back. Otherwise, who do you start at shooting guard? Manu? Possible, but look at his backups. Or let Neal start and have the opposing shooting guards light him up on defense? James Anderson? :lol

Exactly. He can improve and is a hard worker. We don't sweep the first two rounds without him. People forget we won games 1-2 with him struggling. If Pop had just given him a chance in game 5 we might not even be talking about this.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Keep him, still young and wins you games. Sure, his shooting got cold at the worst time possible, but he was a playoff virgin after all, unlike a certain Gator with red hair.

You can stick with your love for fool's gold performances by Danny Green but the rest of us want a player that shows up when it matters most.

TBH Green is good at a few things but lacks things like beating someone off the dribble. Even Kawhi has his share of driving baseline dunks after he gets the ball camping in the corner 3 spot.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
You have to keep players like Green because they play defense, get production in many areas, and in general help make other players better. That's a good philosophy to have. The team needs less one-dimensional role players who completely depend on other players to succeed...that is when they aren't pissing on themselves when the lights get bright. Green is not a star by any stretch but his usefulness will be helpful for the Spurs to compete in the direction the league is headed.

So the answer to his question is what...Gary Neal? He wasn't exactly Mr. Big Shot in the WCF himself.

Gary got exposed for his lackadaisical defense and this supposed 'great' defender Danny Green wasn't much better. James Anderson should be given another shot. Hell be cheap & a low risk high reward signing.

That's a clown statement, bro. Green's defense is Bill Russell on steroids compared to Neal.
Anyways, it's good news that Day 1 of free agency ended without Green getting a huge offer. It would have been surprising but not overly shocking if Green got some sort of Asik offer from a team desperate for a shooting guard.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I wonder how much cash Danny potentially lost out on because of his play during the WCF.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
depends if raptors want him
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Some Spurfans bipolar as fuck tbh. They all treated him like the second coming of Bruce Bowen back in January/February and now they act like he's a complete scrub.

This tbh. Green is a multidimensional player and he doesn't have to rely on special circumstances or players to do so, not to mention he's still a little raw. He had one playoff series where he didn't shoot well when he was a streaky shooter to begin with. People forget that he worked his way into the rotation when he wasn't even a sure thing to make the roster at the start of the year, his contributions far outweighed his negatives this year. Give the guy some time to develop and see what he can do.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Even though Green went cold in the WCFs (which obviously frustrated the crap out of all of us), I like the kid and it'd be good to see him return for a decent price, which seems to be around 2.5-3mil.
Danny worked so hard to make himself into a useful player, blossomed this year, then flamed out late in his first playoffs, but let's not forget that he was great in the first two rounds. Given the trajectory of his career, I can see Green working extra hardthis summer, overcoming the disappointment of his WCF shooting drought, and coming back a stronger player next year. I hope he returns.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Well for one I've never been a fan of Danny Green, to me he's still that scrub that got cut from Cleveland, nothing more, nothing less.

He certainly didn't show that against the Thunder.
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
I'd keep Green, he disappeared during the WCF but the guy did his thing leading up to it. Bonner ALWAYS disappears during the playoffs. I would wait another year out with Danny Green, he could improve, it has been known and he is capable of playing defense, something the Spurs need.

Gary couldn't hit a shot to save his life and compounded it with poor shot selection and matador defense. And your answer is a guy who couldn't crack the rotation even when those two were failing?
-
Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Just imagine: Green went from being waived by the worst team in the league to a starter for one of the elite teams in the league.

Dude, give it up. Anderson isn't coming back and isn't a better option than Green. He wouldn't be the starting 2-guard on this team even if he did come back and Green didn't.

The Mavs used zone pretty effectively last year.

Re: Utah Interested in Danny Green
Devin Harris for Marvin Williams clarifies what the Jazz are doing at the 3.
So it doesn't look like Danny would be anything more than depth for them. I have a hard time seeing the Jazz throw much at trying to lure him away from the Spurs at this point. Maybe it made sense as a Plan B before the Williams deal went through, but I don't see it now.
