According to Lorbek. I assume this means in addition to TD?

Interesting. Seems like we need a 4 more than a 5. Perhaps Diaw is staying and Tiago is on the block.
This is the Google translation I got:
Is that accurate?Quote:
According Lorbek, the Spurs' first choice right now is a more physical center that plays 5. Depending if the Texas team is successful, there will be a place for the Slovenian.
A physical center? That doesn't make much sense unless Splitter is traded. And what physical centers are on the market other than Kaman? Camby's a center but he's anything but physical . . .
Maybe just some BS the Spurs are selling him to try to keep his asking price down?
Interesting... Maybe then Splitter/new physical center would start with Timmy, who would be playing PF?
Maybe something like this:
PF: Timmy, Lorbek, Blair/Bonner
C: Splitter, physical C
Or maybe Duncan's going to retire?
Weird rumor.
Bleacher report has expanded into Europe?
Timmy can't really play starter minutes at PF anymore, he can do spot duty but he can't keep up with many of the younger power forwards.
Yeah, the Spurs should find a center who can play on the low block, and also has the ability to play the high PnR. That would allow Tim to play a little more outside and lessen some wear and tear during the regular season.
If only they could find a center like that... oh, wait
I take it to mean that the Spurs have as a priority to find a physical center so Lorbek has to wait. The problem may be that teams in Europe may start wanting answers. I also think it means that money is an issue. Lorbek has to wait to see how much is left over for him after the Spurs fill other needs first.
Not an encouraging article.
Lorbek wants to come over but he's the Spurs second choice?
Wish it meant Blair and Bonner were on the way out but it's most likely Splitter.
How does it not make sense? Not only are TD and/or Splitter bound to go down at some point in the season, but the Spurs need someone other than Tim who can consistently score on the low block.
It also wouldn't hurt to get a player who isn't as soft as Charmin to defend the paint.
This is by far the best guess as to what the real meaning of that article is. The Spurs initial offer, probably the BAE, is less than Lorbek would like. They've indicated to him not to expect a better offer unless they strike out with preferred candidates for the MLE.
For Lorbek, saying that the Spurs are focused on a different type of player is better than saying that they're not offering enough money.
The Spurs need a strong, physical low post scorer to win a title a la the Miami Heat and the OKC Thunder.
My opinion: 4 is the new 5.
Did they just passive aggressively call him soft?
For those who haven't translated this yet:
According Lorbek, the Spurs' first choice right now is a more physical center that plays 5. Depending on how close the Texas franchise this operation, there will be a place for the Slovenian team.
The Regal Barca sports director, Joan Creus, working on making the team for the 2012-2013 season, and the renewal of Lorbek is a priority to resolve most issues. Contract also ends Victor Sada, Fran Vazquez and Boniface N 'Dong. The club, which confirmed the departure of center Kosta Perovic, also working on hiring an intimidating power forward who could be Australia's Nathan Jawa.
CIA...Lou Williams for full MLE
Not too many centers to choose from. It seems like half of the Thunder team has arms that are 12 ft long...Jones and Thabeet being the latest of the knuckle-scrapers.
In Europe, Krstic and Bourousis still have 1 more year on their contracts.
A tough center would be a nice addition to Splitter's finesse, and would serve as good injury/fouls insurance. And for the love of the basketball gods, a tough center would stop the Bonner/Blair tandem from seeing any action
Ideally that tough center would be more of a mobile shotblocking C/PF that can hit the midrange shot :greedy:greedy:greedy But yea good luck on stealing a player like that :depressed
timvp - was your translation cut short by a word? My translation said "Slovenian team"...not just "Slovenian". That changes the meaning of the sentence, if so.
Available free agent Centers that fit the "physical" profile are...?
This rumor makes no sense.
I guess a guy like Haddadi would be a decent option as your 5th big. He should be available for the veteran's minimum and Memphis doesn't seem very interested in bringing him back because they want to avoid the luxury tax.
It could be a trade in the works. Any physical center's available. Maybe R. Lopez or A. Varejao?
We signing Yanni Brontosaursauses
Physical center = Marcus Camby
Spurs are interested in his services. He will most likely sign with Heat or Knicks
meh, Lorbek is going to say fuck off and sign with CSKA or Barcelona. Don't think he'll wait till the Spurs sign nobody.
Time for Javtokas maybe?
People make a big deal out of the Spurs needing a PF or C. They need a frontcourt player who can defend both PF and C and shore up the interior defense, switch on pick and rolls. They also need more post scoring so it would be ideal if that player can score with his back to the basket. It's hard to get that combination at a price the Spurs can afford and if you have to choose you have to go with the defense first.
id take hamed
idk why he gets put on players like scalabrines level
maybe cause of his name and the way he looks
but the guy can be a great backup center
hes tall
solid defender
can finish around the rim/hook shots
easily take him over bonner/blair/mcdyess/whatever other scrubs the team put next to duncan
ive been to the grizzlies forums and they always wanted him to get more playing time
I wouldnt mind Hamed, especially if his contract starts at around what he was making last year with Memphis ($1.3). I just dont know why the Spurs would want to get rid of Splitter, unless they afraid of having to overpay him next year.
Milwaukee, in addition to recently acquired Sam Dalembert, has two young centers with potential-- Ekpe Udoh and Larry Sanders. Both are mobile defensive specialists, and I could see the Bucks letting one go for the right pieces/price.
Udoh also has the whole plus/minus king going on, like a young Jason Collins or even Bonner.
The +/- thing is what initially caught my eye with Udoh. He had that in Golden State, and then again in Milwaukee.
I also agree with this take: http://blog.newsok.com/berrytramel/2...s-serge-ibaka/
Imagine this lineup
Duncan/Udoh
Diaw/Lorbek(?)
Leonard/Jackson
Green/Ginobili
Parker/whoever gets to be backup PG
STAAAAAACKED :lol
Haddadi, Udoh, Javtokas...
Yeah, this is why I said the rumor makes no sense. Outside of Camby, who seems like a longshot at the moment, there just isn't anyone "available" that's worth putting Lorbek on the shelf to negotiate with. Unless I'm missing something.
It might not mean anything. Posturing? Hard to say yet.
what about robin lopez. he fell out of favor last year with the suns and no way the suns want to pay him next year to be gortat's backup. they extended a qualifying offer and i'm not too sure how the logistics of a trade would work out. a sign and trade swap of lopez and lorbek might benefit both teams. suns get someone to play next to gortat and the spurs get a 7 footer can develop a solid all around game and is already a decent shotblocker. he's also mobile enough to play in the spurs' new system.
Solid. Was in 64 games this season, so he's sturdier than his twin.
I love how many macho sarcastic blowhards on this site are so enamored of laughy smiley emoticons. It's really cute.
Maybe we are waiting on a certain physical center to be amnestied.........
Which would be?
perkins could be amenstied but he doesnt help
id like to see SA get anthony randolph or just play that tiago kid some more
Damn, I wish I could have known what Spurs is thinking now.
This article has raised a lot of speculation. Is Tiago being shopped? Is Lorbek coming? Will Diaw continue to be our starting 4? Rather than start a new thread, I'd like to ask everyone what they expect to see on 7/11. Will we have a pretty good idea of who is on our team? I'm sure there are scenarios, like Camby, being discussed or hammmered out as we speak.
I'm still thinking we basically stay the same, re-sign Tim and Green, possibly bring Lorbek and Nando over. We won't be trading anything involving Bonner or Blair to the Rockets.
Just wondering how much will be resolved on Wednesday.
The information about the Barcelona contract makes it seem even more likely that the issue is money. It seems as if Lorbek will have to wait and see just how much the Spurs will offer him.
Posted on RealGM and Project Spurs
Erazem Lorbek has been offered the most lucrative contract in Barcelona's history.
Lorbek is considering coming over to the Spurs to begin his NBA career.
The Spurs acquired the draft rights to Lorbek last June in a trade involving Kawhi Leonard for George Hill.
Lorbek averaged 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds over 25.3 minutes per game for Barcelona last season.

In Barcelona's history?
Wow, nice for him. I guess it's goodbye NBA career that could've been.
It comes from Mundo Deportivo and is still a rumor. Not sure if it is just talk, but is quite possibly true.
However, this was posted in 2 other threads in Spurstalk.
He was never really considering the NBA as an option until his rights were traded to the Spurs. If the Spurs were willing to offer decent money and a role it might have been more likely, but neither of those appear to be the case.
I trust the FO, but it would've been nice to add a player with his size/skill combo.
How about Mozgov or Koufos ? :smokin
Koufos is softer than I want. Mozgov's fine but as it is Denver's centers are projects.
Yeah I am thinking the same thing it has to be Brand which would be sweet.
I can't think of any other center that we could afford to get that is worth anything. The only way we get one is a sign and trade which would include Splitter and I HOPE TO GOD BONER>......................
This makes it sound like Kaman is the real target.
Kaman isn't going to get that. I don't think.
If the Spurs could get Kaman for MLE money then that would be pretty money. Realistically he's probably the best option out there and 5M/yr would be a bargain for him.
While it's difficult to see Pop playing Camby next to Tim, does anyone see him playing Kaman with him?
Supposedly, Lorbek was offered $2.46M per season with Regal Barcelona
This might be the guy the Spurs are after:

Did he play in the recent friendly between Argentina and Brazil?Quote:
The Rockets, Spurs, Hawks are displaying interest in Brazilian center Rafael Hettsheimeir, says Sam Amico of FOX Sports Ohio. We heard yesterday that the Mavericks were interested in Hettsheimeir.
If the Spurs amnesty Bonner or Neal and then trade Blair for cash/draft pick then maybe we can still sign Lorbek? What's left of the MLE? Per Hollinger we used $3M on Diaw for 2012.
https://twitter.com/johnhollinger
Neal makes like $800,000. Amnestying him would do nothing lol
