Spurs to sign forward Danny Green to three-year, $12 million, source tells Yahoo!
First real news...figured it deserved it's own thread.
Excellent deal if true. Other teams should take notes.
great news :tu
A bit pricey if you ask me, but gotta trust the FO's judgment.
Great deal. Relatively short and avoided going over $4 million a season. :tu
Given the retarded amount of money that teams are throwing around, this is a good contract.
Excellent news.
Can't complain about this deal at all. Yea he played like shit in the WCF but if he left we'd have a big hole at the 2. And $4 million a year ain't breaking the bank. Goos sign. Now we need a another BIG dammit! And a good one, not some scrub. Make it happen R.C!
Aweseom news :tu Good start to the off season. 3 years is perfect and the amount is definitely fair for what he has already proven, his upside and his risk.
Outstanding deal. Rotation SG at 4 million a year? I'll take it every time.
When looking at comparables, this is more than fair. If someone like Daequan Cook got $3.75M per season from the Thunder, there's really no way to argue Green deserves less than that.
Coming into the summer, $3 million per season was about what I wanted the Spurs to give him. But after doing the research, I really couldn't argue against $4 million.
It's possible that a team would have thrown more money at him as the top shooting guards started going off the board so this was also a well-time offer by the Spurs. $4 million is still a good bargain in this market and three years is just about the perfect length.
I think looking back on it, $12 million for Danny Green age 25 thru 28 will look like good investment. At worst, he's a multipurpose swingman off the bench who can provide defense and help in a number of niche areas. At best, he builds upon what he did last year and becomes a bargain.
good for both sides solid deal.
he got them 3 years to grow and see how good he can get.
Novak got 4 years and $15m. Enough said. This is a great deal. He will continue to improve.
The Spurs FO once more proves that it is still one of the most reasonable in the league.

Awesome! I love the guy.
I like Danny Green, glad that he re-signed.
Good now get rid of fucking matt bonner

People still not over his performance in the WCF? It was the kid's first time playing deep in the playoffs. He can only get better, and in this system I believe he will continue to do so. Glad he's coming back. Spurs youth movement ftw.
Perfect deal...reasonable dollars and years.
Is this the Center Lorbek was talking about? #supersmallball
FWIW, the Spurs aren't paying this money for a mere catch-and-shoot guy or an offensively challenged big.
I think this is great. For a young player that just started his real starting role and playoff shot, he did real well. I agree with timvp (not because I'm gray-named) but he's entering his prime years and I'll think he can be a solid steal for us.
His agent said there were a couple others interested but Danny wanted to return the whole time. 4 mil a yr for him is not pricey at all. :lol if you think it is.
Danny Green probably could have gotten a bit more on the open market so it does seem like he wanted to come back. I appreciate that and I hope he continues to play well as a Spur. I really do appreciate shown loyalty.
Let's not forget how the situation with Green played out...he was with the Spurs and they told him to go work on his game and come back. He comes back and puts together a solid year, showing the Spurs that he committed himself as a player and was willing to do what was necessary to help the team win.
Re-signing him was one of the easiest decisions off the offseason.
Danny Green @DGreen_14
Its been a wild road and I'm not done yet...but I'm a very happy man right now lol...looks like I'll b a spur for a lil while longer #GSG
Good news.
Congratulation to him who was once cut and finally became a starter.
Danny has said that he wanted to return - it's a very fair price all things considered IMO but not the most he could have received. I think between him and Kawhi the Spurs have two young, competitive and versatile players.

Very good news.
$12M/3 years is a fair deal. It's nowhere near the crazy deal some mediocre FAs got this summer.
I'm curious to see how Green contract is structured. Is it the standard contract with max raises or is it different to maximize Spurs cap space in the 2013 or 2014 summer?
Now, Spurs had to wonder what to do with Neal. Trading him? Keeping him as 3rd string SG, that will barely plays? Trying him again at the PG spot?
That's an important part of this. Green's bust potential is pretty low because he does a lot of things reasonably well. You can't really compare Green to players like Neal, Bonner or RMJ because he's still a useful player even if he's hitting ~36% of his three-pointers. It's a lot riskier to invest in a player who is garbage if he doesn't shoot >40% on threes.
Bullshit, all you have to do is look at the contracts of other SG's/swingmen in the league for an easy comparison. There are countless examples of vastly inferior players with no future who are making far more than $4M/year. Hell even Nick Young got $6M and he's got far fewer skills/ability than Danny Green, not to mention a horrid attitude.
Hopefully Green works on his slashing game this summer, has to finish at the rim better, he does that and it will open a lot of things for him on the court.
Definitely. That little "floater" of his is brutalQuote:

If only our bigs had the work ethic of our wings!
I guess it really depends on Nando and Patty - both if we can sign them and if they work out. Spurs might be forced to go with something that is not optimal (Neal at PG) even though they know it hasn't really worked all that well.
Spurs are in a very tough spot with decent players in Blair/Neal. It sucks that they have log jams and tough decisions at a few spots while still having a glaring need at PF.
Good now lets get a bigman.
Good news
I think the Spurs wouldn't have extended the QO to Mills if they didn't want to keep him around. There has been almost no news about teams interested in him so if the Spurs can get him on a reasonable contract I'd like to see him back. With a full camp and preseason I think he can become a decent backup PG.
Jeff Zillgitt @JeffZillgitt
Agent Bill Duffy on Danny Green remaining w/Spurs: "Danny has embraced the Spurs culture and developed a meaningful role."
But it's not an abstract market as you suggest. It's not what the market should be for some theoretical player. It's what some particular team was willing to pay this player that determines whether the Spurs got a bargain or not.
We'll probably never know, but the contract certainly seems within reasonable parameters (if perhaps a bit high).
Welcome back Green.
It's a very reasonable deal. :tu
Jeff Zillgitt @JeffZillgitt
Duffy on Green: "He is grateful that Pop & R.C. have demonstrated this belief in him. It’s a great day for the underdog & well deserved."
Should have he played well in the WCF, the price would have gone up. MLE at least.
He proved himself in the season. Even if he went cold in the WCF, he recognized he didn't do well at that point.
And that's one thing that makes him a good young wing.
If Green doesn't go cold in the WCF and continued playing like he did in the first two rounds in the WCF and the Finals, there's no way the Spurs would have been able to re-sign him. He easily gets $6M+.
Needless to say, I'd take the ring eight days a week even if it meant losing Green forever . . .
Fully guaranteed is what I don't like about the deal.
It's reasonable for a starter SG, for what he showed during the season and the first two rounds. Hopefully he will improve in his second season.
Yeah, wasn't last season his first season as a rotation player?
Just read a great point from Drew at 48MOH for those complaining about DG's contract:
Steve Novak got 4 years/15 Million :lol
great news. danny felt like shit after his performance these playoffs. i got a feeling he'll be back and better than ever.
And Novak is even more one-dimensional than Green.
At least Green gives you 3s, good D, and the occasional floater.
Wonderful news and a very reasonable deal for both parties.
Agree with Timvp, in that Green probably gets more money, had he not melted down during the WCF. While he lost some dollars, that probably made him more affordable.
I fully expect him to retain his starting spot and pair with Kawai to form a formidable defensive duo on the perimeter.
Finally some good news around here...:toast
:tu awesome news ! the contract amount and duration are fair.
I approve this signing. :hat
way to go danny, i like the kid
Very happy about this. :D
Others in the thread have already said what I want to say, but to reiterate: entering his prime coming off a major growth year, could still improve at both ends but at worst a versatile swing off the bench, and I think he'll learn a lot from the WCFs. Let's not forget that he was great in the first two rounds of the playoffs, so he's not daunted by them, just had a poor shooting series against OKC. And the fact that he was keen to return when he could have tested the market for more $ says a lot about him.
Welcome back, Danny! :toast
Manu Ginobili @manuginobili
@DGreen_14 Happy to see u r coming back DG! Congrats on your deal. Very well deserved. See u soon!
Awesome deal. More than fair. I am glad I got some good news after a shitty day.
Very good news.
He faltered big time in the WCF, but if he can even improve at a rate of 30% of what he improved during the last offeseason, the Spurs will have got an absolute bargain.
Improving his offensive game in the keyway and his defensive game navigating around screens and the Spurs will have themselves a very, very good player.
Great deal.
Why is everyone acting so stoked about Danny coming back?I'm happy to have him back but c'mon we all knew he was coming back it's not surprising. :rolleyes
Perfect deal and Green hasn't reached his ceiling and will only get better in the Spurs program. I think Green could become an elite defender so we would have 2 stud defenders on the wings. Also, I think the Spurs will definitely make a move for a physical big via trade. I just can't see all those guards coming back.
Two good wing defenders would reduce the pressure on Duncan to protect the rim.
Interesting tweet from JMac:
Jeff McDonald @JMcDonald_SAEN
As others have reported, 3 years and $12 million for Danny Green. Not bad for a guy who didn't clear 90K last season.
Hella raise for DG.
^McDonald is wrong, per usual. But yeah, it's a good story.
Methinks he left a zero off.
Glad to see he is coming back. I hope he can learn from last year's WCF flop and improve his game.
more than I expected
Can't complain about it. That's a reasonable deal. A bit more than i thought (10m/3y), but Green is worth it.
In a market that gives Fields a 20m contract and gives George Hill a 40m contract, that's a bargain.
Now it's time for Danny to get to work and stay hot
Just woke up and it was a great news. Hopefully Diaw is next then Timmy and some additional key player. :toast
Glad this has happened. DG has proven to contribute, despite his shortcomings in the WCF. He's still very young, and that experience gained from last year will only pay dividends for him going forward.
he lost himself some millions in the playoffs
Glad to see Green back. In this market I was scared he was going to get priced out of the Spurs range. Now hopefully Diaw can get reupped and the team can find a decent backup point guard.
