Saw the Spurs are interested in Rafael Hettsheimeir... who is he?
6'10", 260, age 26, Brazilian.
Obviously Tiago's replacement :lol
According to NBADraftNet:
"he lacks quick lateral speed ... Defensively he has the body to be a good defender in the low post, but does need to improve on his positional help defense ... Not a shotblocker either, or a good passer for that fact. Just able to give the simple perimeter pass "
Yikes!
Still, I'd rather have him than Bonner.
^ Bonner has seriously burned all his bridges after yet another unflattering post-season
Bonner stays and Rafael is exactly the kind of player that would interest the Spurs... simple, cheap and mostly non effective.
I'd like to sign this guy only because the Mavs were interested in him. The Mavs circus continues. LOL
Strong, more than decent positioning, nice hook, has a midrange jumper.
Screw the current stretch-4.
Amnesty Bonner and sign this guy.
A lot less expensive and probably has more heart.
Looking at his stats, Hettsheimeir doesn't look very interesting. More turnovers than assists, blocks and steals combined? His rebounding is getting worse -- although it's not bad.
The most interesting thing about him is his shooting (33% on threes on nearly two attempts per game). Using Hollinger's translation, Hettsheimeir would probably have a PER in the 12-13 range. I've seen him play for the Brazil NT and he doesn't especially stand out.
For the minimum or whatever the Spurs have to offer, he's probably worth a gamble based on being a big body who can shoot a little bit. But it's doubtful he's ever anything other than a fifth big.
Heard a discussion about him from two Dallas sportwriters/tv commentators this morning. They are desperate for a big, but these two guys weren't particularly excited by Hettsheimer after seeing his stats. Questions abound.
At best, he'd be a rotational 5th big or maybe even a project.
Gawd, I hope we're not down to that point in our search. Sure hope we can find someone better than this.
Here in Brazil people are saying he's going to Dallas. He had a great game against Argentina last year.
Here on local Dallas radio that the Mavs HAVE made an offer.
Yes please. He brings a combination of things we are lacking in a big man. Size, toughness, rebounding, and a mid range jumper all packaged together..
Could be another Spurs' salted slug.
Especially if Pop decides that even if he doesn't like the guy he's the future at center.
Splitter did struggle defending guys with similar length that liked to get physical on the low block. From that aspect it would make sense on targeting another reserve center who can defend it better.
I go with Hamed Haddadi before this guy.
He schooled Scola pretty bad multiple times in that highlight clip.
smokescreen!
Ha! At the :40 mark of that vid, he cleans up a typically weak shot from Splitter.
Guys, he's been offered a contract by the Mavs.
Scrub Deluxe. Good for the Mavs.
