Grades: Spurs vs Lakers - Summer League Game 2

The "Zeller should start because he has experience" opinion makes some sense in theory but in reality the Spurs have sucked to open all four halves so far. Zeller gets steamrolled on defense and no one guards him on offense. His presence basically makes it impossible for Leonard or Joseph to do anything because it's 4 on 5. Once Zeller comes out, KL and CJ go off like clockwork.

Zeller doesn't stick out as a sore thumb as much when going against the bench players ... thus the reason he always does best in the 2nd and 4th quarters.

I can't think of a reason why Dawson and Wilkerson shouldn't start with the next big being Richards or Ajinca. 30, 30, 20 between those three would give the Spurs a much better idea of what they have then giving Zeller charity minutes, tbh.

From what I hear, Zeller is a great guy who they are already saying will be a future coach/GM ... but he wasn't good enough for college basketball and certainly isn't good enough in this level.

I'm sure if Richards plays in the states this season, it will be in Austin. He sucks, but could get better.

Maybe they are grooming him for a front office position, :lol of course he doesn't need summer league minutes for that.

Yeah -- Byars, Ehambe, Jackson and Buycks are too good to not get at least a good 20 minutes in one game at least. Of course, they could just be hanging around for some guaranteed training camp money down the line.

Au contraire. Maybe he needs SL experience so that one day he can tell a young player, "Son, have you looked for other lines of work?"
