People may identify with the message, but they're not going to look for messages outside of their preferred genre. How many people who identify with RATM's message would have come across that message in the first place if it was set to country music?

I think you're missing the point. If you like Rap Music, would you see the typical person enjoying Neo-Nazi/White Supremacist rap (assuming you don't identify with them)? How many individuals would say, "Well I don't listen to their lyrics, but the beat is hot!"

El Nono was being conservative - RATM's music has an extremely strong message which is diametrically opposed to everying Ryan is about.

I don't know how you can ignore a group basically saying "Fuck Republican White Men" just because you like the drum solos.

If you like rap music, but not country, are you going to listen to a country artist because that country artist has a message you agree with? No. You're not even going to know that country artist has a message you agree with because you don't like country music and don't listen to it. That's the point I'm trying to make. Anyone's search for a lyrical message in music is going to be limited to the type of music they like to listen to.

I don't think even the greatest lyrics can get me to listen to music I don't like the sound of. But lyrics that are bad/uninteresting or that express a point of view with which I specifically disagree can certainly keep me from liking music I would otherwise enjoy.

I thought Morello was a big Obama backer. I get that Morello and his Rage buddies are pissed but I don't really think Paul Ryan should give a fuck about it to be honest. I've never understood why these bands and singers act like they are on their period when some evil neo-con plays one of their songs at one of their rallies. Don't these ungrateful uppity rich douchebags want free publicity and attention?

I don't think you have to focus all of your attention on the lyrics of Rage Against the Machine. When I hear Guerilla Radio, I don't think of Guerilla warfare and guerillas taking over the radio. I mainly think about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. That was a great game, tbh.
