Well Allen has taken $3m from the Heat for a legit shot at another title. I don't think he would (or should) take anything that low, but if we can convince Manu that him taking a discount salary will give him another legit title shot, maybe he takes it?
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
Whatever happens at the end of this season, one thing I know is that Manu will remain a Spur forever and he won't be anywhere else.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
should retire and take that hero with him....time for a new era...BAYNE is coming bitches

To me, the $3M Allen took was absurd and an outlier. I think the $6M/yr Boston offered was the "hometown discount" price the Spurs would likely get from Ginobili...would be shocked if it was any lower.

Manu shoulda stopped playing during the summer 4 years a go.Dude is too old to play his kinda bball all year long.Fact I'm surprised the Spurs didnt clamp down earlier given his injury propensity the last few years.
I know I would've stopped him,its obvious he cant compete at his level w/o the summers off unless he like being injured constantly

That's about what I was thinking, somewhere in the vicinity of 2yrs/$13M. The good thing about having Manu is that unlike that butt-crack Allen, he stepped into the bench role YEARS go, and in fact has played it most of his career. If you pay him a bit more than the MLE and have him as your bench captain, that's a huge win. There is no one on the open market that will meet all of those criteria. FAs would expect to start.

Stop posting.
Manu's PER from the years you said he shouldn't have played.
2011/12 24.1
2010/11 21.7
2009/10 22.5
2008/09 22.9

I posted Manu should have stopped playing for Argentina(ie summer ball) about four years a go
as its too much wear and tear on his body as evidenced by his constant injuries the last several years that have impacted the Spurs drive for five.
If you cant see the correlation btwn Manus style of play, his aging and playing BB non-stop through the last several years and his increasing injury propensity I can't help you.But I DO SEE IT
Imagine if Timmy played all year long the last several years, where would the Spurs be at?!??

And yet Manu STILL put up PER numbers that correlate to All Star status. The Spurs also cannot stop him from playing, they can only ask.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
No chance. He has AT LEAST 2 years left....

you do know this is his last year and if he gets one or two more injuries this season I can't see him wanting to come back.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
From Buck Harvey's column:
Ginobili will be back next season, though he says there are no guarantees. At his age, he says, it’s year to year.
“But ask me right now,” he said Sunday, “and I’d like to play two more years for sure.”
...
Ginobili’s contract ends this summer. And while he’s currently the highest-paid Spur, it’s likely a hometown compromise could be reached with him as it was with Duncan before.

Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
20% chance he retires but it really depends on health and where the spurs finish this year. If the Spurs are successful this year and win a title I'm not sure what that'll spell for the vets, Tim might want to go out as a champ as well as Manu and who would blame them.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
I don't see Manu retiring unless he has a very bad injury this season.
I think he gets a 2-year contract, PO last year.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
He earned to end his career with Spurs, on his terms. I think if continue to play, it wont be for the money, similar to Duncan.

FWIW, two years would take him out to the end of Duncan and Parker's current deals, so I don't think he just threw it out there coincidentally. I think the framework is there for a 2yr deal at between $6-8M/yr. I would also think if it's year-to-year as he says, the possibility exists for only a partial guarantee in yr 2.
Re: What are the Chances That Manu Retires After the Season?
At his age a two year at 10 mill contract anything over that and I would let him walk.
