Well Allen has taken $3m from the Heat for a legit shot at another title. I don't think he would (or should) take anything that low, but if we can convince Manu that him taking a discount salary will give him another legit title shot, maybe he takes it?Quote:

To me, the $3M Allen took was absurd and an outlier. I think the $6M/yr Boston offered was the "hometown discount" price the Spurs would likely get from Ginobili...would be shocked if it was any lower.Quote:

That's about what I was thinking, somewhere in the vicinity of 2yrs/$13M. The good thing about having Manu is that unlike that butt-crack Allen, he stepped into the bench role YEARS go, and in fact has played it most of his career. If you pay him a bit more than the MLE and have him as your bench captain, that's a huge win. There is no one on the open market that will meet all of those criteria. FAs would expect to start.Quote:

20% chance he retires but it really depends on health and where the spurs finish this year. If the Spurs are successful this year and win a title I'm not sure what that'll spell for the vets, Tim might want to go out as a champ as well as Manu and who would blame them.
I don't see Manu retiring unless he has a very bad injury this season.
I think he gets a 2-year contract, PO last year.
He earned to end his career with Spurs, on his terms. I think if continue to play, it wont be for the money, similar to Duncan.
FWIW, two years would take him out to the end of Duncan and Parker's current deals, so I don't think he just threw it out there coincidentally. I think the framework is there for a 2yr deal at between $6-8M/yr. I would also think if it's year-to-year as he says, the possibility exists for only a partial guarantee in yr 2.Quote:
