Getting a pet should be avoided unless you're prepared to take on as much responsibility as you would if you had a kid. And anyone who says otherwise is probably a shitty pet owner.

All of these breed recommendations are great and all but we've all skipped over the most important factor.
m>s, what does your mom want in her house?

Idk about "as much responsibility as you would if you had a kid," but I agree with your general point. I fuckin hate pet owners who say, "My dog is an outside dog!" That's code for I'm too fuckin lazy to give my dog attention so I make it sit outside 20 hours a day.
Re: recommend the best dog breed
Irish Setter - Golden Retriever combo is beautiful.
Must have access to big ole fields to run in. Better yet, in addition to fields a big pond/lake/ocean to swim in. Great swimmers.

Re: recommend the best dog breed
I would get a COD or a DAT ........... its a mix of a cat and a dog. It has attributes of both. Smart and loyal, protective like a dog. It will ignore you, be independent like a cat. A cod/dat does have some issues, its kinda curious and when you turn the corner in your house and look down, the lil fucker will be sittin there staring at you. Kinda creepy tbh.

I know what you're saying but don't agree 100%. Any dog I've had can stay in the house. But I've had a couple that wanted to spend most of the day outside. If I let them in, they'd be at the door whining to get out. Some dogs ARE outside dogs.
As to lazy, I know a lot of dog owners who have inside dogs and don't do anything with them. Dog will just lay on the floor all day.

Well, obviously I don't mean that you have to do anything on par with picking out good school districts or setting up college funds because you buy a dog. A pet isn't a kid. I just meant in terms of the fact that, like a child, a pet is something that requires your daily input/effort/interaction, requires a certain financial output, and influences all major life decisions you'll make for as long as you have the pet.

You just described my Chihuahuas. Yes, plural. As in 2 pure and two mixed. And yes, I drink.
Alot.

^never knew you were mexican tbh
Re: recommend the best dog breed
Bump...looking for medium sized dog. What about collie or Wheaten terrier
:elephant
Re: recommend the best dog breed
Collies have to be trained to not bark or they will drive you crazy. This is true for most breeds but moreso for collies. Dogs eat shit and I mean that literally.

I've had a lot of dogs but to this point, this one has been the smartest by far. Still would like to know if it's Aussie or Border Collie.

So this turned out to be the best dog I've ever had. Never grew to the size of a Pyrenees but has many other traits besides the dewclaws. Don't think it's Aussie at all now...probably Border Collie. Smarter than Boutons and Cobra combined. Will be a problem if my daughter wants to take her to college. As highly as dogs are praised, they're still underrated.

Good bump, getting another german shepherd soon
Re: recommend the best dog breed
Yeah, I'm bias as fuck but GS's are the best. Border Collies, Australian Shepherds and Golden Retrievers arr also very good breeds. I love my dogs tbh

This will absolutely be my next dog. We can really only have three and I've let my daughter and wife pick the last two. Now have two border mixes and a great lazy beagle mix. But one of the collies is a 16 who I hate to say is in her last legs. I really would like to get a GS. All our dogs are awesome but would like to have one that could run off any would be assholes. The collies are territorial but not sure if they couldn't be swayed by a chew toy. Like Avantes mom.
Re: recommend the best dog breed
They say labradoodles are quickly becoming the best and most popular breed.
However, Labrador retrievers are presently the most popular.

Call me typcial but I love Pits. I love proving idiots wrong that they are destined to be vicious. Now when your dumbass tries to fuck with my property, that's another story.
