Re: 2014 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
Losing the younger brother is a pretty big blow, he is a huge talent, I was hoping the older brother would excel under coach strong but to be very honest who cares, there is a year before 2015 and plenty of time replace the younger brother with a top talent

I totally agree with Vito. Why worry about 2015 when we have an entire year left to recruit? Coach Wickline will find some solod replacements. Also JeffHowe247 said that for UH and Houston Lamar QB Bram Kohlhausen will walk on for the #Longhorns this fall. It'll be nice to have a backup with some experience.

2015 DB Xavier Lewis from East St. John (La.) has an invite for the Junior Days. I know Chris Vaughn visited last week.

I'm not sure why these guys commit so fast to begin with.
These recruiters must be bad ass salesmen

I think for a lot of them it's for security. By committing early they lock in their spot at the school they think they want and still can keep options open to see how things go. For the recruit (especially the top couple hundered in the nation) there is no downside to committing early but you get the insurance that most schools will honor your scholarship even if you get injured your senior year.

Yep. See Kevin Shorter. A&M has a guy in the same situation, IIRC. Cedric Collins, maybe.

I get that if you sign a letter of intent. There's no obligation from the school though for just giving a verbal.
if it were me, I'd want to make sure I get in all the official/unofficial visits possible.

Are they giving him a full four year ride, or just one year?

last i read it was a full ride and he will be a member of the team in some capacity (even it is just assisting with the coaches)

since it's a full ride, I'm guessing it's just a classy move and not some kind of ncaa rule.

It's not an NCAA rule but it's something that most programs do as a sign of goodwill because that guy only counts toward the scholarship limit the first year. After that he goes on full medical and it doesn't impact the football program at all. To coaches that's a very small price to pay for goodwill toward the HS coaches and to avoid the reputation that they'll turn their back on you if you get hurt.
This also isn't just for career ending injuries. Say a guy is committed to a school before his senior season then tears an ACL. The chances are much greater that the school will honor his scholarship and still bring him on than give him a scholarship if he wasn't already committed. Unless the guy is a Fourette or Clowney type elite prospect he might not get his offer honored if he isn't committed and suffers a serious injury.

As you can see with just about every prospect their original school is still honoring their scholarship offer even if they visit right before signing day. Harvey visited Texas, Bonney visited Baylor, Alaka did A&M etc but each of those schools would still take the guy if he chose to stay with his commitment. There's almost no downside for an early commitment from the prospect perspective.

I should have said "I don't get why players sign LOIs early". I muddled loi and verbal commitment.
I guess there's a guaranteed rule of at least one year of scholarship? I also guess some want to get going on their education so that by the time their 4 th year of eligibility comes around, they've already graduated?

Guess I'm not really sure what you mean here. Football doesn't have any early signing period so unless you're an early enrollee who wants to start the spring semester instead of the summer then you sign and fax your LOI on national signing day. Some kids enroll early for spring semester if they're JUCO or have the credits to graduate HS by December of their senior year. I guess the upside there for an athlete is a chance to get acclimated to school while going through spring workouts and not the hectic time during the season.

Ah yeah, when I'm looking at all the guys that have signed loi's already, they're jucos. I never caught that.
I guess I'm wondering this stuff for nothing. :tu

How about teams passing you over? Is there a way to indicate I still proclaim the right to date others but you are my boyfriend for now? You might miss a really good opportunity because a school that might really fit thinks you are monogamous?
The sluts... Just kidding.

What a joke. Ford is trying to decide between Texas and Missouri? Give me a fucking break. We're not talking Texas and LSU, or Texas and Alabama, etc. Yeah Missouri had a nice year with a roster full of ex Texas HS players they no longer are able to recruit en mass due to their move to the SEC.
And Ford is struggling between Texas and UCF. UCfreaking F??? A All American POS conference? What a fucking joke.
I hope if they do commit to UT that Strong works the shit out of their narcisstic punk asses.

The UIL has already allowed too many teams in the playoffs. Division I and II within each A grouping, its as bad as the NBA letting 16 teams into the playoffs imo. They will probably end up having the I and II winners play each other.
The UIL has had 128 5A teams in the playoffs split into two 64 team Div I and Div II brackets. Way too many teams especially when so many have losing records. But it makes a lot of money.

I'm assuming you're joking about the teams passing you over because you committed to a school early. I don't want to believe there is someone out there who would actually believe that.

Re: 2014 Texas Longhorns Recruiting Thread
Texas have received LOI's from QB Jerrod Heard, WR Lorenzo Joe, WR Roderick Bernard and DE/TE Jake McMillon so far. OL Elijah Rodriguez' have been sent as well. S John Bonney has sent his LOI, 24/7 is working on confirming if that was sent to Texas.
DE Solomon Thomas sent his LOI to Stanford.
