Two Questions:
1. What was the name of the team before it was changed to "SPURS"?
and
2. Did the initial "owners" actually own the team or did they lease it from other investors / owners? :rolleyes

1. The Dallas Chaparrals, before they changed it to the Texas Chaparrals, and finally the Spurs when they moved to San Antonio.Quote:

I like how they originally recruited drunken maniacs to be baseline bums.
Have not read it yet but plan on doing so very soon...
Team was leased and not purchased....
1.
Dallas Chaparrals, Texas Chaparrals, Dallas Chaparrals, San Antonio Gunslingers, San Antonio Spurs
When the team moved to SA, it's named Gunslingers, later changed back Spurs
2.
Leased
They never used Gunslingers!Quote:

I hate Rick Neuheisel. Just a random USFL/Gunslinger's comment.Quote:

Yea! I knew the right answers! You basketball gurus must be rubbing off on me. = )
Getting back to the Spurs...
Actually San Antonio leased the Dallas franchise on a 3-year lease and if San Antonio decided not to buy it, it would revert back to Dallas as the original owner. The rest is history.
BOOO!!! (Well, not to the Gunslingers, but to Neuheisel).Quote:

Ah, memories.
even better...they leased the team for three years and got operational control but got a downside risk guarantee...their potential losses the first two years were contractually capped at $600,000. Anything more than that would be absorbed by the Dallas group. A very sweet deal.
Anyone who has played NBA Live 2004 knows that they can switch the the Spurs old name and jersey.
Yeah, but did you ever see the "real" gunslingers on the sidelines at the games? Those guys were sooo cool!Quote:

I would gladly fill up that position should it become vacant at some point.Quote:

everyone knows they were the Chapperals.
its not a hard question.
and who gives a crap if they were leased or purchased?
Even better....George Gervin was also leased. When the ABA attempted to nullify the deal, the Spurs filed for an injunction in San Antonio District Court....our first home cooking!
Another trivia question:
What other hall of famer played with the Iceman before Gervin game to San Antonio?
Too simple to be real trivia. Give it a rest.Quote:

Can't be real trivia, but the question which started this thread, more commonly known among Spurs fans is?
Still haven't seen anyone post the answer.
