TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
IF the Spurs win it all where would you rank this championship?
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Impossible to rank it for me. This Finals series has the potential to be one of the best of all-time, regardless of who the Spurs play
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
I voted '99. It was the beginning of what would become one of the most successful runs in NBA history.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
If we beat the Miami Heat then it will be the greatest. If it's the Pacers...then it's probably the worst.
But guys do keep in mind that we played the #7 seed Lakers (Which was really like playing a D-League team because of their injuries) the #6 seed Warriors, and the #5 seed Grizzlies to get here. And if we play the #3 seed Pacers...well....I don't know how you can argue that would be our 'greatest' Championship.
Personally I REALLY enjoyed our last one in 07. Sweeping Lebron like that was just pure awesomeness. I mean, who sweeps in the Finals? That was our best team ever.
-

There's nothing like the first time.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Gotta go 2013. This one brings the story full circle. Can also be facing our toughest opponent of all.

I don't know yet.
2005 is my favorite due to the epic Finals vs. the Pistons. It's going to be hard to top that, tbh.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Gotta see it happen first, tbh. 2005 would be hard to top. That series holds a very special place in my heart.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Nothing like the first one imo. That is unless you get an unexpected last one.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
This one by far. We have never faced a Finals team (assuming we face the Heat) that featured two of the top 10 players in the game. Also the long drought between our last Finals appearance, combined with the way the team has transformed its identity in the past 6 years, this championship has the potential to solidify one of the greatest postseason runs in recent memory.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Oh, if the Spurs somehow beat the LeBrons, I'm pretty sure 2013 will catapult to the top of most people's lists.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
How the hell are we supposed to know this right now? If it ends up being an epic series with Duncan hitting the game-winner at the buzzer in game 7, then obviously it's the best. If James tears his ACL and the Spurs sweep then that's completely different. Of course assuming they pull off this massive upset.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Also loved Parker's response to the question asked. Eerily similar to what Magic Johnson told reporters when asked about his favorite championship in Bill Simmons' Book of Basketball, stating "oh it was definitely '88. When your young, and you win so easily, you take it for granted. But over the years and as you get older you realize how difficult it is to get to that spot, you start to appreciate it a little more. So yeah, '88 is definitely my favorite."
Its no surprise Magic's been riding Tonys dick the entire series.

I agree with you in 99, then 03 with D ROB going out on top happened! FULL SEASON TOO! I know I don't buy that asterisk crap since we all played 50 games, but man 03 with D ROB out on TOP! CLASSIC!
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
It would take a pretty epic series to top watching David Robinson hop around like a giddy schoolgirl when he was called off the court in the 6th and deciding game of 2003, but it would be close.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Regardless of the opponent, this potential championship would be my favorite for a reason very similar to Tony Parker's. I started seriously watching basketball in 1995-96 as an 11 year old. I was a Bulls fan (like 90% of the basketball viewing public at the time) and watched my then favorite team win 3 straight titles. After the team broke up and Jordan retired, I was a bit older and had no special connection to Chicago, so I went looking for another team. I latched on to the Spurs in 99 and haven't looked back since. The stretch from 2007 to now has left me itching to see my favorite team get back on top. After six long years, and especially after last year, this would easily be my favorite title team.

'07 was boring. 2005 was best, toughest path to that championship.

Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Duncan's getting his 5th would be the best by far.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2013 because this could be the end of a wonderful contending run we had the past decade. Also nothing better than taking down Miami and shutting up all of the media and fans about how good they are and unstoppable
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
They're all special in their own regards.
1999 is special for starting the whole thing off. Plus we beat a "big market" franchise in the Knicks.
2003 is easiest to overlook, but special in retrospect because we denied Richard Jefferson a ring. :lol
2005 had an incredible 7 game series against a very very savvy defending Champion Pistons.
2007 featured the media's collective orgasm over LeBron's first Finals appearance....and subsequent sweep by SA
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
This one would be really special in the past I felt Spurs always had a chance to repeat or win another one, but this one is truly our last best chance at 5

It's also because Tony's the first PG to lead his team to the Finals (since Magic and maybe Isiah).

2003 was when Tim Duncan put himself in top 10 all time... and that was only for his second ring.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
This would be my favorite because of how we ended the season, injuries, Tim and Manu now 37 and 35 on their way out KL getting a ring and that the Spurs would be the underdog against the Heat beating LeBron and the Heat would just be so sweet tbh
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
03 run was the best one. lakers, mavs. but the 05 finals was the best series. still, first one has to be the best
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2013 would be the sweetest. The Heat will be by far the greatest team we''ve played in Finals and this Spurs team is not as talented as those championship teams.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
I have witnessed every Spurs Championship. Unfortunately, I was to young to remember any of them in vivid detail. This will be the first Finals appearance I will be able to recollect which makes it that much more special. When the Spurs won in 99' I was only six years old.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
All depends on the opponent. If it involves defeating the Heat, then it has to be the best or second-best.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2005 because most of the time the opponent from the East was a cakewalk. That Pistons team was great.
If we can beat LeBron and Wade though. Wow.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
1999 was sweet becuase it ws the first.
2005 was by far the most challenging to date.
2013, assuming the boys bring home the bacon, will be even more challenging than the others - it will also be the best because this one seems so unlikely and will mark a wonderful way to bookend the odd-year dynasty.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
For me personally, 2003 is the best while ending Lakers' 3-peat run. But for Tony, it has to be this one if the Spurs can win it all. Although he won the Finals MVP, Timmy was clearly the best player in 2007 and the biggest challenge was against the Suns. While for this year, Tony is the best player, and this would hugely boost his personal statue among all time greatest players.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2003 was my favorite, but if we take the Heat this will top it.
Seeing David and Tim go out on top packs some serious emotional firepower.
Although there was a tear or two shed seeing James White get a ring...
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2003 Sending the Admiral off on top. Clearly.

I have fond memories of 2003 and 2005, with 2005 probably being my favorite. I was so drunk during the 2007 run... lol
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
The '99 chip was pretty fucking awesome too. I was a senior in HS and a bunch of us from the team would get together to play ball and then watch the games.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
first time '99 > IF we beat the heat after so many years '13 > beating a tough pistons team in 7 '05 > the last run for the Admiral in '03 > the Bron Beat Down '07
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
'99 was amazing, and the '05 Finals were the best series. But personally, after 3 years of "dynasty," my favorite championship year was making the Lakers cry in '03.
The only downside about '03, though, was that the toughest series was in round 2. If we shock the world and beat LeBron's Heat on the biggest stage, this victory will be legendary, and has a chance to be remembered by the world at large as one of the all-time great NBA Finals series. That would be pretty f'ing awesome.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
How to even choose? 1999 was the run that started it all, and who can forget what happened to the city of San Antonio over the course of those playoffs? 2003 had Timmy's near quadruple double and Jackson's big threes in Game 6, 2005 had Horry's instant classic heroics and Game 7, 2007 saw Parker become a sensation against Lebron, and 2013's potential title would come against the most Goliath-y foe of them all.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Each one is special, but damn...winning it all this year would be SWEET. 1999 was special because it was the first one ever, 2003 was special because David retired a champion, 2005 was special because it was a brutal 7 game series against the defending champion, and 2007 was special because it was the 3rd in a 5 year span with Tony emerging as a dominating PG....
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Can't beat dave retiring on top, but this one if we get it will be my second favorite

Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
I think '99 was Spursball at its best, but '03 was so storybook. The Admiral goes out a champion...magical.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
I'll never forget the 1st one. The city and downtown was crazy as fuck. Highways were at a freakin standstill and people were climbing rigs and shit, I think more than all other times. That I will never forget. Thousands of fans would be waiting for Spurs at the airport, it was just sweet as hell.
2013 would come in a very close 2nd, just for the proving people wrong factor after so many years.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
They all mean something different to me.
'99 - so happy, such a great run, never thought it would happen.
'03 - This one was the most fun: the Lakers crying, Kerr going bananas in Game 6 vs. Dallas, Frank Johnson grabbing our players from the sideline, Manu's steal on RJ in Game 6.
'05 - This one was the most nerve racking - the Seattle series where the Sonics fans were cheering Duncan's sprained ankle, Jerome James's trash bag, the Denver series where the Thuggets beat the shit out of Manu, the epic roller-coaster Finals.
'07 -The cherry on top.
I think if we win this one it will be my favorite. The last rodeo.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
of course this one .
GO SPURS GO !!
加油!!
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2003 because THE ADMIRAL RETIRE and he is my all time favorite player!!!
then, 1999 because the sweetest and first!!
2005 because pistons almost won it ^^ i mean game 7 feelings are so good thats sport!
2007, because i was in game 2 attendance ^^
BUT 2013 can be my favorite because i do all my best to come back to san antonio and see Timmy, Gino and TP win again and maybe their last will be the best END they can have together..moreover to beat on heat..will be so sweet...
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Torn between 05 and '13. Chose '13 though.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
I can actually remember where I was at the night they won it in '99. The entire city went bonkers and just about every car had a Spurs Flag.
'13 would be a big middle finger to the rest of the sports world.
-

If you picked 07, you weren't a Spurs fan in 99, or for any of the other years either.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
If it's a victory over the Pacers in the Finals, then it might be only slightly better than 2007.
If it's a victory over the Heat, then it would arguably be the greatest of all.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
pistons series would be really hard to top.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Heat or Pacers, if we beat either, this year will be my favorite one considering how the past few seasons have gone and the expectations of this Spurs team.
05 is definitely still my favorite one because I loved the lineup of Tim/Tony/Manu/Bruce/Horry and the Pistons could have repeated that year. Followed by 03. Then 07. And then 99.
Nothing against the 99 title, but I wasn't a basketball fan at the time. I do have the complete Finals game set and 99 was fun to watch.

agreed, that was a helluva ride, pretty easy to 2-0 at home, then blown out on the road to 2-2, then Game5 Horry heroics, then come home and fail to close Game6, and a very tough game7.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
It's only going to be great if it's over the Heat imo
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2003 definitely!
-ended Laker's 3-peat
-Retired Robinson on top - an NBA Champion
-Duncan almost had a quadruple double (could be 3rd Spur in history after David Robinson & Alvin Robertson)
-Tim Duncan, won the Finals MVP (again)
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
1999. The first.
The city was insane and everybody in the city was united in support of the team.
Watching Spike Lee walk into the Alamodome with his posse to take seats across from the Spurs bench area.
Watching Allen Houston get called for illegal D (and the refs actually called it).
Watching Robinson and Duncan standing side-by side with their arms straight up in the air as Latrell Sprewell (I think it was Latrell) took the last shot along the baseline that didn't go in and then it was all over but the proverbial shouting.
Enjoying the style of basketball as it was played then, with very heavy focus on defense, which is a style of basketball that I actually always liked, though casual fans really didn't much, and the league started making it easier and easier for shooters and harder and harder for defenders, at least of the type who were playing and winning in those days.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
You know that '99 team was one of the all time great teams. Robinson was still a major force then (unlike 2003). We went 15-2 in the playoffs. If it weren't for the fact that it came at the end of a strike season, that team would be regularly mentioned as one of the dominant championship teams and possibly Spurs' best.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
Winning the NBA Finals in 2013 vs. the Heat would just slightly win out over the 2005 Finals vs. the Pistons.. Full circle, Duncan Manu and Parker in all their 30's, beating their toughest eastern conference opponent in any of the previous Finals. That would be the best.

I remember watching the game live and I was 100% positive that he had gotten 10 blocks, and so did the announcers but by some BS they only gave him credit for 8. I thought for sure he had the quadruple double. I was really disappointed they screwed him like that.
-
Re: TP: "If we go all the way this one will definitely be my favorite"
2005 also for me. Prime Manu and rest of Big 3 + Bowen and Big Shot Bob. And we barely won!
2003/2007 less so, since you have to really like the 1999 one as our first and with D Rob finally getting one.

Actually what I remember most about that year aside from D Rob's 13/17 line in his final game, was Duncan dominating Shaq in true Olajuwon fashion.

2003. That was the year the modern Spurs team which we know so well was born. It also ended the championship winning streak of our most hated rivals, the Lakers.

That right there.
Spurs vs Lakers was the clash of titans Finals that year where Timmy flat beat them down in game 6 in LA.
2. 1999 where the city went nuts
3. 2005 .... the Pistons, Suns + Manu's hair made it a fun ride
4. potentially this year for sentimental reasons
5. 2007 ... other than playing the Suns, was bland for a title run. I really wanted a Spurs v Mavs rematch.
