Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 title ?
:vomit:
Stupid ass Im glad hes off of Ticket 760...he was so fucking annonying?

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Don Harris is stupid. But if the Spurs had gotten Kidd in his prime, he would have been a stud. Problem was that the Spurs would have gotten a player about to have microfacture surgery on his knee. Parker is having a phenominal season. In fact, the last two he has been spectacular. But don't discount a Kidd in his prime; he was an incredible talent and a future HOF. Kidd at his best versus Parker at his best would have been a tough call for any GM.

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Certainly not the dumbest Tony Parker trade idea that's been floated over the last decade.
My favorite was Parker for Biedrins and Azubuike
-
Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Glad we kept Parker but yeah, considering Kidd was not a bad idea. CIA Popped was all for it.
Parkers detour from being dedicated and instead hanging around rap pussies cost us tho. 2008-2012 culminating with the glass in eye at a Wrappussy Party
Parker is obviously more focused this year.

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
I wanted the Parker/Kidd backcourt, to be honest. Parker defending the PG, playing SG on offense. Kidd PG on offense, defending the opposition SG.
Would of worked, tbh.

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Remember when a lot of us wanted that, tbh?

Exactly. Was never meant to be Parker or Kidd.
I believe the plan was to keep them both.

Yep. Kidd was an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2003 and the Spurs had the cap space to offer a max deal.
-

If we had kept both, we wouldn't have Manu.
-
Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
I was all for it, as long as Parker could be retained. He was an up and comer at the time, and having the then best PG around to learn from would greatly benefit him in the long run, as well as the Spurs in the short term. That being said, what was really giving me a hard on then was the thought of having a Karl Malone or a Jermaine O'Neal next to TD.
-
Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Spurs would have completed a 5pete imho if they would have gotten kidd to play along prime tim and manu tbh

Yeah, I remember salivating at the semi-realistic idea of.
Kidd
Parker
Bowen
Duncan
J O'Neal
That would have been the best defensive team in league history, tbh.

That came close on the heels of Don Harris's fit about the Spurs daring to give Avery Johnson's #6 to some untested Argentinian guard.

Actually, he wasn't turned off. When the Spurs played the Lakers during the west semis, he was thinking about signing with whoever lost the series, and he thought the Lakers would beat the Spurs, so then he was thinking about signing with the Spurs. But since the opposite happened, he went and signed with LA. I read this story probably last year, just couldn't remember from where. Dude would've definitely helped, as he wasn't afraid to lay the wood on opposing players.

Never wanted Kidd back then, still posting in the "other" message board. Always have the faith that TP's good enough as our starting PG, while having a foresight & believe in Manu, with his promising dynamism, leadership, and court vision, everything that Kidd could have offered with less money & off the court baggage to boot. Too bad having cap space wasn't as useful as of now.

I'll never forget when Jermaine O'Neal re-signed with the Pacers instead of us and then Isaiha Thomas was fired as their HC shortly after and O'Neal was pissed and said that had he know Thomas was going to be fired, he would've signed with SA. I was pissed too. We would've won another ship.

Jermaine O'Neal was never worth that contract. He was a low percentage shooter even in his prime and it's not like he was any kind of elite rebounder either. And then the last 3 years of his deal formed one of the worst cap-killing contracts in NBA history. You basically had Richard Jefferson but needed to pay him twice as much. He was owed $82 million those final three years when he had devolved into complete scrub, not even good for spot minutes.

At first I didn't want Kidd, but later I did if it would have somehow cost us Parker and not Manu. Hindsight I was wrong

Seemed like a foregone conclusion at one point. I was totally against it as I was a big Parker fan at the time and knew he had a ton of potential.

I never wanted Kidd either. Though Kidd was a master floor general, Parker was still the better outside shooter even then. The Spurs have just come off a championship and there was really no need for Kidd. That whole summer courtship of Kidd was ridiculous. Thank God he spurned the Spurs advances and stayed in New Jersey.

They offered Payton for Parker, Malik Rose, and Antonio Daniels once Parker started killing shit in the 2001 summer league. I mean I'm happy as hell they didn't pull the trigger on that, but could you imagine anyone scoring on a starting lineup with Payton, Bowen, Duncan, and Robinson in that 2001-02 season? I think the Spurs get through LA with that team, and probably Sacramento too. Not that one title would have been worth all the incredible years Parker has given us.

The plan was always get Kidd to play next to Tony. Hmmm. It would be interesting to have seen which would be the more successful pair. Tony and Kidd or Tony and Manu?

There is nothing to say we wouldn't have won championships with Kidd. He contributed in different ways, but has been more productive than TP in general. Being older, he does seem to be pretty much done now.

Why did Jay Howard get fired? I never knew that and I liked his game calling skills.
-
Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Jay Howard got fired because he was very negative on the air about the Spurs.... Jay had a afternoon show I want to say in 2001-2002....he voiced 2 cents....and he pissed off alot of people in the Spurs organization....more so alot of players too....and they got tired of his shit....and in person he was just a real asshole!!!
The other thing I heard was due to the whole Body Soutions scam....I took a communications class and my instuctor said that when a Radio Company advertises a product and there is fraud involed its best to cut your "Spokespersons"....CJ Cruz from Kiss and other Radio Personalites were victims to this.

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
I don't get people who said was a bad idea. Sure, TP worked out great, but that was not a certainty at the time, and Jason Kidd was the best PG in the NBA, and was leading the Nets to the Finals.
Almost equivalent: Would you trade Kawhi for LeBron now if you had the option: 21 year old in his second year here, who's been good in the playoffs though not a star yet, for a in his prime top 5 player in the league(Kidd was fringe top 5, LeBron is #1, but it's similar). It's not a dumb suggestion.

Jason Kidd alongside Tim might have delivered rings in 2004,05,06,07. that's 2 more rings than we got, right? in 2007, the then 33 years old Kidd averaged a triple double in the PO. he was that good. would I do the Tony for Kidd swap in 2003 in hindsight? yes. Spurs likely wouldn't play the 2013 finals and might already be in rebuilding mode. but they might look back at an even greater past and a MJ-Bulls like domination of the leage during Tim's prime.

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Spurs' Gregg Popovich wanted both Jason Kidd and Tony Parker in 2003
Quote:
MIAMI -- Back in 2003, the San Antonio Spurs put a stop to the Los Angeles Lakers' efforts to become the first team to win four straight NBA championships since the Boston Celtics won eight straight titles from 1959 to 1967. The Spurs beat the Lakers in six games during the conference semifinals, dispatched the the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference finals, and then beat the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Finals.
At the time, the Spurs had a plucky young point guard named Tony Parker learning with on-the-job experience and they were facing arguably the best point guard in the league at the time in Jason Kidd of the Nets. Kidd was a free agent that coming summer and had narrowly lost the MVP vote to Tim Duncan the previous season. The Spurs had dreams of putting Kidd next to Duncan ... and Parker.
"Well, your question infers that there was an either/or, and that would be false," Popovich explained on Wednesday. "That's not what I had in mind at all. I wanted both of them. It wasn't to get rid of Tony Parker. Tony was really young, and I had a hard time convincing him of that. But I was probably a little bit out of the bubble machine at the time. It seemed to me that it would be a great move if we could get Jason to help mentor Tony.
My illustrious NBA career ended a week and a half. So what the hell am I going to teach him about being a point guard?"
Could that have worked? Could the Spurs have pulled off a lightning-quick backcourt with two point guards possessing shaky jumpers? Would the positives have outweighed the negatives and given the Spurs a run of titles as Kidd molded Parker into a future playmaker? What was the plan?
"I thought that Jason Kidd being there," Popovich said, "being the mentally tough person that he is and with his skills, that would be the greatest education for Tony Parker. And Tony can go play 2. Let him play the 2 position. He was a scoring guard at the time anyway. Not a great shooter, but we could figure it out, and let Jason be the point. As Jason gets older, let him move over to 2, let Tony take 1. Brilliant, brilliant. This is great. Let's go get this thing done. Tony did not love that idea at all. But we still tried to do it."
This may end up being one of the great "what-ifs" of the past two decades. Had the Spurs convinced Kidd to join Parker and Duncan would they have become even more of a dynasty than what we've seen over the past 15 years? Having Tim Duncan in his prime, Jason Kidd in his prime, a developing Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili backing them both up as the Sixth Man could have developed into one of the best quartets the NBA has ever seen.
Instead, Kidd re-signed with the Nets for six years and $99 million but never led them to another NBA Finals after taking them to back-to-back championship series in 2002 and 2003. Kidd finally got his championship ring in 2011 as a member of the Dallas Mavericks

Re: Remember when Don Harris wanted Tony Parker traded for Jason Kidd after 2003 tit
Kidd could have helped win titles all the way to 2007 IMO.. But he was done by 2009..

And Kidd staying in NJ was one of the dumbest moves he ever made. Tim was just 28 years old and won 2 more rings without him. Kidd's legacy is great but would have been greater had he come to SA..

So do I. I personally wanted them not to go after Kidd but they did, and Kidd decided to stay in New Jersey.

I would've liked that roster with Kidd along with Parker, Ginobili and prime Duncan

I was super pissed with the jason kidd thing. We wouldnt have won anymore rings after 2003. Tony and Manu both are better players.

If the Spurs kept the draft pick and draft Josh Howard...easily 3 championship from 2004 to 2007.

i didn't realize the idea was to keep tony and kidd. i never liked that rumor.
i always thought the money was there because of 50 leaving, spend the money on a big. my buddy told me he thought the spurs should spot fill for that season and save the cash for a play at garnett that following season. i always liked that idea.
tony was like kawhi, he seemed like a sure bet. i didn't see the need for a big name point guard.

I read the woj article . It is really interesting to read that RC wanted both Kidd at PG and Tony at SG. That would have meant no money for keeping Manu and possibly Tony leaving too for other reasona, thats the whole Spurs core gone and it's scary.
