What do you guys think of the following players, tbh?..

Ignoring contract terms and realism, what do you guys think of the following players joining the Spurs next year?..

These are the only Free Agents that interest me, tbh..

Paul Millsap- Great 3rd big that could be a good 2nd big if motivated and in a good role..horrible defender against big post players, but a solid defender against SFs and PFs..good jump shot, good rebounder..he had a down year last season, but from what I've seen and read, it was mostly due to motivation, tbh..he would look great on this team IMO..

Jose Calderon- Overrated as a creator and overall, but a good pick&roll player, great shooter, makes the smart decisions..atrocious defensive player, but the Spurs can mask poor defensive guards, tbh..

Gerald Henderson- He has improved every season, his jump shot continues to progress every year, still a very good athlete..he could be a nice 6th man to compliment Ginobili in this system IMO..

Wayne Ellington- Neal replacement, better defensively, more consistent..

Mike Dunleavy- Solid player, high IQ, good rebounder for a shooting specialist, great shooter.

Al-Farouq Aminu- Already a very good defensive player, offense improving, could be another example of the Spurs fixing the jump shot of a raw player, tbh..

Martell Webster- A tough, Spurs-like player, tbh..

Players that I think could help the team are Dunleavy, Calderon and Millsap. The rest of them are scrubs, tbh.

Paul Millsap and Al-Farouq Aminu are the only 2 players that would improve the team, everyone else seems like they'd be status quo.

The spurs would have to think hard about neal, corry before any of the above guards is even considered.

I really like Millsap. I don't exactly know he will fit in with the system when more than likely Tiago ( assuming he resign)- Diaw will be getting the most minutes. Not to mention that kawhi would probably play a good chunk of PF minutes as well. tough, rebounds, and just a bulldog. It should fix softness in the PF position when Kawhi is not playing. Plus this could give kawhi the chance to play the SF position more which he clearly is more comfortable at.

Calderon is beyond atrocious defensively. Just like Gary Neal, this dude self screens himself almost every-time. I think the spurs would continue to develop Joseph though.

Wayne Ellington would be perfect for the spurs. I have not seen much of his offensive game, but he he hits three's and has size. He should be a perfect fit if the spurs decides to let go of nando

The only players I wouldn't mind from this list are Paul Millsap and Mike Dunleavy. Everyone else on that list is eh. Let's see if we can get a steal in the draft this year. Need either a good post player or a 2 guard.

I wouldnt mind having Millsap if the price was right. Id def prefer or want Al Jefferson even if it means letting Tiago go. I would also like to see JJ Reddick in a Spurs uniform.

There aren't many roles left for "big names", tbh..

Parker and Duncan are obviously getting big playoff minutes at PG and C..

Kawhi is going to be playing 40+ at SF in the playoffs, and Danny Green should improve enough to warrant 35+ in the playoffs, as well..

I assume Manu, Diaw and Splitter are going to return, tbh..Joseph will get a shot at backup PG..I'm hopeful that Neal is out..

That opens a spot for another big man, a Neal replacement and a McGrady/Jackson replacement..I mostly listed players that could help the bench, tbh..

Calderon is the least realistic, btw..some team will overvalue him, and the Spurs already have Joseph and De Colo..

I just included him because I saw him on the FA list, tbh:lol..

Millsap would be pretty great for us.

No thanks. Dejuan Blair is like a mini Paul Millsap. We all know what Pop thinks about undersized big men. Just ask Malik Rose and Dejuan Blair. We need a big that can defend, rebound, and is not soft underneath the rim. Undersized big men can win you regular season games but when it comes to the playoffs, facing big teams like the Lakers, Grizzlies, Nuggets, etc, then those undersized big men will come back to haunt you.

The Lakers, Grizzlies and Nuggets?:lol..

Only 1 of those teams will be a threat next year, and the Spurs just swept them..they also have Randolph on the decline and lost their coach..

Dorell Wright and Brian Wright are also good candidates without overpaying

Paul Millsap- Would push Splitter to the bench where he belongs. I don't think he has a ton of upside, but it would be nice to have a reliable big man on offense next to Duncan.


Jose Calderon- A bad defensive point-guard doesn't really fit the Spurs' new identity. If it did, then Joseph wouldn't have gotten the nod so far.


Gerald Henderson- Maybe for the room exception. I don't really think the Spurs need another two-guard unless they can run the offense. If you could just extract his finishing ability and give it to Danny Green though, that'd be great.


Wayne Ellington- For Neal's salary? Sure. But I don't really want him much at all.


Mike Dunleavy- Would rather develop someone younger, like...


Al-Farouq Aminu- I like him on a developmental contract. If he learns to shoot, he could be a viable wing, but he's already good enough to get time as a combo-forward.


Martell Webster- Only for cheap, like part of the MLE.

To be honest, the idea of going under the cap is so unappealing to me that I haven't really looked at the free-agent class much. I'll have to other players in mind after see what the Spurs do during the draft.

Yeah I don't understand why people are so quick to talk about the Lakers as though they're guaranteed to be a threat next year.

The Lakers were a borderline non-playoff team with Kobe all season long. Now they have to deal with his rehab, not to mention the Dwight situation is still somewhat uncertain (although I'll assume he's coming back).

Long shot but what if we run into the Pacers or Bulls next year? Even the Heat? Let's just hope that Duncan can have another renaissance type of year next season.

Kyle Korver would be a nice pick-up, IMO. Him or Dunleavy.

The nice thing about Millsap as an additional big is that he has slid to the 3 in Utah in a bind. Diaw and Green can also spell minutes there, so it would free us up from having to spend a roster spot on a SF that doesn't play. Millsap and Korver would be an absolute dream though. I would think CoJo can develop enough as a third year guy to warrant playoff minutes as TP's backup. He's already better than that other Texas PG that Indy trots out there.

I think Millsap is a great fit, and should be the primary target. Use leftovers on A Wing/Guard to be a backup, and then the first round pick can be primarily depth.

Good thing about Millsap, Korver, and Dunleavy is that all 3 can play multiple positions. Millsap obviously can play anywhere from SF to PF to C, and Korver and Dunleavy can play SG and SF. If we could retain Diaw, sign Millsap, and sign either Korver or Dunleavy, I would consider that an outstanding offseason.

Here's a depth chart I could see from that:

C: Duncan, Baynes
PF: Millsap, Diaw, Bonner
SF: Leonard, Dunleavy or Korver
SG: Green, Ginobili, DRAFT PICK???
PG: Parker, Joseph, De Colo

Spurs need a 2-guard who can create, but there's not many available. Paul Milsap would be a great add. Korver would also be great. If we could move up in the draft somehow (maybe Mavs at 13 who are shopping their pick), we could possibly draft a guard like Shabazz Muhammad. Would be a great (and similar) replacement to Manu. Or a big like Steve Adams or Mason Plumlee.

Webster is not bad. He has heart, but I'd rather keep Neal.

Eh, I think it's time to move on from Neal. I thank him for everything he's done, but I think we'd be better off drafting a promising SG this offseason.

I don't know that motivation was an issue for Millsap last season, but if it was, that's alarming. He's a 28 year old, undersized PF, who, even though he is a known commodity, was still playing for what's almost certainly his final "big", long term contract.

That being said, I've been beating this drum for the better part of a year. Not that you base everything on the Heat, who the Spurs had beat and who, despite being the favorites, will be hard pressed to get back to the Finals next season, mostly due to fatigue, but . . . he is perfect for them and I believe he's lit them up since the big three formed. He's big, strong and good enough in the post to do damage there, as well as on the glass (against them; overall, despite his reputation, he's just okay as a rebounder) and a good enough shooter to space the floor out to 20 feet, as well as mobile enough to "hide" on one of their lesser threatening wings defensively.

The only other name on your list I could see them pursuing is Dunleavy, who's Spurs material on and off the court (he's basically an SF version of Barry). He'd particularly make sense if they're going to cut Bonner loose, as he's big enough and a solid enough rebounder to function as a stretch four, in select match-ups.

Al-Faroq Aminu is the only guy I can see helping the Spurs, but I doubt the Spurs will go after him.

The guys I really want are Andre Igoudala and AK-47

Calderon's defense is really the only drawback. Otherwise, I love the guy's game.

He will win us some regular season games but come playoff time, if we run into a big team like the Clippers, Lakers, Grizzlies, or Nuggets, then the Spurs will pay the consequences of having an undersized big man. Best fit, for a lot of obvious reasons, both on/off court, plus he'll be more affordable than the bigger name bigs. If he struggles in certain match-ups, they can utilize Splitter and to a lesser extent, Diaw more.

Pop's problem with Blair was never the fact that he was undersized. In fact, he gave him plenty of opportunity in spite of that and because of the dearth of quality bigs they've had throughout his tenure. His problems with Blair were being out of shape, constantly trying to do too much and shoddy defense.
