A team's decision making should reflect on the coach. He should be able to help them know between good/bad decisions.

going into a FT shootout isn't all that smart either. there's a better chance of us missing a free throws than what happened. the odds of them landing consecutive offensive rebounds and then converting the ensuing 3 pointers is slim, and you know what, it happened. hindsight is 20/20 but they got some fluke bounces to go their way. manu and kawhi both missed free throws down the stretch. i wouldn't want to enter a free throw shootout. but you can keep playing the role of captain hindsight and act all smart about it

If that was the players fault...why do we even need a coach? Just put the Coyote as the coach and save a lot of money instead of giving millions to an empty suit standing by the bench. Its funny when I see people say its the players that miss the shots...or the players that messed up but never blame the coach because he wasnt physically in the game. Why pay these guys millions if its never the coach's fault?

This was all on Pop. He messed up royally at the end of game 6...you know it...I know it...the players know it...Pop knows it...all NBA fans know it. The only ones who are refusing to accept it are Pop fans and Pop himself.

He might want to have all options on the table next time when he can't close a game in which 99% end up being closed. I can give him a pass if it was the regular season but this was the Finals. His senility has gone too far. For that sequence, if we could have swapped out Pop for any one of the other 29 coaches we win the game. We wouldn't let VDN off the hook easily but why does Pop get a pass?

You make a simple choice.

#1) If you want to go small and take out your best player - you foul and win with free throws.

#2) If you don't want to go the free throw route - for no other reason other than -"we don't do that" --
Then you leave your best player and best rebounder in to secure the rebound.

Instead popsuckers are defending another stupid decision and trying to justify it -

The chances of them collecting offensive rebounds when our defense was scrambling and our guys were out of position was actually pretty good.

the coach institutes a system and a plan. the players will execute this system and plan with varying degrees of success.
he is also responsible for the chemistry and cohesiveness of the team.

pop's decision making was better than 29 other coaches this season by any objective standard.

the butthurt of entitlted spurs fans is meaningless to the real world of basketball.

these games came down to a few key possessions, none of which pop screwed up.
every single one of those, the team screwed up.

that's not on the coaching staff really. they get you to the finals; you have to perform once there. the spurs did an amazing job for the most part.

focusing on the negatives is a symptom of a child-like mind.

Pop is overrated and has several flaws as a coach. There's no question about arrogacne, he simply is an arrogant prick. However, his personality is probably the reason why the guy in the organization or any other player that played with pop during the championship years gives him the respect he gets.

Make no mistake though, if there's such a thing a coach lottery, I'd pick him over any other coach in the NBA.

I'm pissed. But we need to move on and realize we can't have everything.

I sure as hell can't name a coach right now who would have done a better job than pop this year tbh.

:lol go watch the replay of their first offensive board. we had 3 guys around the ball, including sticky-hands kawhi and it got loose. sometimes u catch bad breaks. you might as well be playing blackjack and after the fact say something like "you totally should have hit on that 19"

i agree with this, but there's only so much you can do.

tim missed a point blank bunny and an easy put back.

parker was MIA.

none of those are on pop. he deserves some of the blame, since it's his team, but acting like pop is the only one standing between us and a fifth championship is ludicrous. you sound like someone from TLN or LG.

no other coach in this league - not one - would have gotten this team to the finals. so be grateful we have pop and remember how many fans would love to be having our problems.

i guess basically it just comes down to two different ways of looking at it.

blaming pop for not bringing home the chip, or thanking him for getting us so close.

i choose the latter. pop deserves it. nothing the internet says is going to change my opinion on that.

If Tim honestly thought he should have been in for that play he would've been. It's pretty clear they discuss situations like that. Pop played the %s and lost. If LBJ hadn't bricked it so badly Kawhi would've held onto it anyway.

Ok.... let's say you are right. Why do people have to keep dwelling on his decision. The game is over there is no changing the result. So the real question is do the Spurs fire Pop? If no then there is no need to keep bitching. If yes who is out there that is bette r and fits this personal? Do you really think Tim wants to play for another coach?

Tim actually might want to play for someone else if Pop keeps treating him like that. When the Spurs returned to San Antonio...look at the video..I saw Tim hug Parker...I didnt exactly see Tim walk with, hug, or look ok with Pop. He even handed the mic to Manu when Pop tried to get Duncan to talk and he didnt say a word to Pop during that situation. Tim isnt happy.

Maybe it's because he just lost Game 7 and next on the agenda is a divorce because his wife cheated and is leaving him. Perhaps he wasn't in a good mood to address the crowd and that's why he passed to Manu...just saying...
