Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Interesting...
I hope they crush Miami in the playoffs.
lot of big name players to manage
Starters
Williams
Johnson
Pierce
Garnett
Lopez
Bench
Terry
To a rookie coach, that's a gift and a course. Hopefully the East is much less of a cake walk with the Pacers, Bulls, Brooklyn, possibly the Knicks all getting better.
The Spurs just need to keep pace with younger teams like OKC, GSW (I think they will make a big jump) but they are as is a lock for a top 3 seed baring catastrophe.

Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Not with Jason Kidd as coach LOL

Miami will be in the Finals again next year. Book it.

I think Chicago, Indiana and Brooklyn have chances to beat Miami. It really will be interesting to see.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
That's what happens when you have an owner that doesn't have a budget. Crazy amount they will pay for that team, but tremendous opportunity to win. Have to tip your hat to them.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
What are the specifics of the trade?
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
WTF how does that $ work?
ON the bright side, we didn't want those guys coming over to the Clippers with Doc!
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Chris_Broussard: sources confirm Nets/Celts trade that will send KG, Pierce, J Terry to Nets for 1st rounders in 2014, 2016, 2018 and K Humphries, G Wallace, Reggie Evans, Tornike Shengalia, Keith Bogans going to Boston.
Crazy lineup of DWilliams, Pierce, JJohnson, Garnett, Lopez with Terry off bench

Deron, Jet, Garnett, Pierce, Humphries, Lopez, Joe Johnson have possibilities.
Kidd is an obstacle.

Nets are still going to be playoff fodder tbh. Only teams with a chance to dethrone Miami are Indy and Chicago, but I fully expect Miami to get to their 4th consecutive Finals.

Using that logic, Stern should've vetoed the trades involving Lebron and/or Bosh to Miami.

They're rebuilding. Might as well hit the cap minimum with crappy players, play their young guys, and tank for the draft.

Boston positioning itself for Wiggins/Parker. Such tankers.

Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Well, at least the Heat should have some competition in the East. I still think the Heat would easily beat the Nets but these Nets should be better than the 2013 Pacers.
If the Nets had a coach that would limit minutes during the regular season, I'd be worried about the Brooklyn. But with Kidd, I'd be really surprised if he doesn't run that team into the ground prior to the playoffs.

WoW, quite a good deal for Boston especially if the picks protections aren't really strong. Nets could be a lottery team in 2016 or 2018.
-

What's funny is I bet Garnett and Pierce are joining Brooklyn just to beat that backstabbing faggot Ray Allen in the East LOL

2 old farts for the corpse of Wallace's career and his $30M contract, plus three hamburgers on Tuesday. A couple of rentals and a lot of bad picks.
The end.

The absolute worst team rarely gets #1. They just have to be really bad, not unspeakable. Leave that to the Bobcats->->->Hornets.

By 2017-2018, Williams (who can barely jump now) will be 33. Pierce and KG long gone and the team still in cap hell. Pretty good bet that will be a top 10 pick. Meanwhile, Boston's probably going to try and ship out Rondo now. Team won't be competitive for at least 3 years.

Indeed. Under no condition do you want to become the Bobcats/Hornets. At that point, drafting high doesn't even help because your team is so dysfunctional.

I read somewhere that Terry would be coming off the bench. Pick up a couple of vets + shooters and Brooklyn is very good.

The Celtnets may be unstoppable if they stay healthy. I think the Heat should move Bosh while they still can.

In my opinion, the 2013-2014 Brooklyn Nets will be the 2012-2013 Lakers. Looking amazing in the Pre-Season, will cause a lot of hype, but will self destruct during the season and struggle to make the Play-Offs.

Disagree in Lakers comparison. Lakers failed bc Kobe won't be no 2, and Dwight just turned 13 maturity-wise. If Nets fail, it will be age and inexperienced head coach. I think Kidd will be better than most, though.

kg,pierce and terry played together

Correct you are. My mistake.
The question, though, is whether Stern nixed the Paul-to-Lakers deal as NBA commissioner or as acting GM of the then-NBA acquired New Orleans Hornets.

Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Good move for the Nets. You get rid of crap in Bogans, Humphries, Wallace, and you get back 3 veterans who still have enough in the tank to be a contender in the East...
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
And besides....Pierce and Garnett have short contracts as well...

Rondo got injured in January didn't he? He should be back for the start of the season. Either way they will be bad. I'd expect them to maybe move him. He's already 27 (I think) you are going to contend in next 3 seasons unless you get some awesome picks and great free agents.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Brooklyn did a great job. Nets fans couldn't have hoped for anything more. Awesome starting 5, how they mesh together we will wait and see. JKidd has a great mind for basketball and im sure he'll do big things with that team.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
You all have to admit if we nabbed Garnett and Pierce you'd all be over the moon. Also though, it seems Brooklyn have gone all in, win now mode. Kinda weird for a team with no bench who just got together. But they've given the team a great shot to succeed.

You could be right, but the NBA in general looks very weak right now. Of course there's still the offseason.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Good trade for both teams. For the Celtics, the latter two picks could be lottery picks. For the Nets, they had already dug the hole so deep, that it was worth it to deep it even deeper, because at least now they have an outside shot at a championship. I still can't imagine them winning it, but before this they had absolutely no shot.
The starting lineup looks good on paper and it is, but it's also severely lacking in athleticism/speed/quickness, while the bench is terrible and they don't have the money to upgrade it, either. Even if Terry bounces back, Teletovic and minimum salary scrubs are likely to fill out the remainder of the rotation (guys like Turiaf, Duhon, Wilkins, etc.).

Damn, they lost a lot of depth. They lost a few good rebounders in G Wallace, K Humphries (even though he had a shit*y year), and Reggie Evans. I always thought Keith Bogans was a joke when he played for the Spurs LOL. I wonder if they will resign Andreay Blatch.

They will get some ring chasers for the vet minimum. CJ Watson and Terry are solid guards. They need another big. I think Blatche is going to leave for more money.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Reggie Evans: 11rpg in 24 minutes last year. Any chance he gets waived seeing as though Boston will now suck? He's a bit of a spaz offensively but its not like he takes more then 5 shots per game and its not like we need him to score. He's a bit short but we could use his rebounding, strength and tenacity. Lets not forget we needed just 1 fucking rebound more and we'd be champions but whatever. Might be nice to have a strong interior presence unlike pansy Splitter and the Tweeners Bonner and Blair.

Pop wouldn't put in in a game late in that situation. I like him but not for the spurs. If Turiaf is available i'd love him as a 4th or 5th big.

They're in cap hell though. They only have the mini-MLE this summer, which is ~$3M. Unless they dump one of their starters for nothing, they're gonna fuck themselves over in the luxury tax. They've thrown away all cap flexibility and half their picks for the next few years.

By including Wallace in the deal, they improved their cap number for 2015. Also, PP is off the books for 15M after next season. KG off for 12M the season after. That will be 27M off the books in a hurry if things don't work out basketball wise which is solid.
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
News this morning is that Marshon Brooks will now be headed to Boston in the trade instead of Reggie Evans...
-
Re: Garnett, Pierce and Terry to Brookyln for Gerald Wallace.
Really, no way around it: It was a very good trade for BKY no matter what. Especially with their pocket books.
Quote:
The combined 13’-14’ salaries of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans, and Kris Joseph next season are about $24.1 million (this assumes that the Nets would not have re-signed Keith Bogans and would have guaranteed Kris Joseph’s contract).
Compare that $24.1 million number with what the Nets will now owe Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry ($32,992,069) and you get a difference of about $8.9 million, i.e. the Nets will have about $8.9 million more in committed salaries next season with the trade than they would have had without it.
How does this impact the Nets salary cap situation for next season? It doesn’t. The Nets were so capped out already that adding more salary simply means that owner Mikhail Prokhorov will have to pay a higher luxury tax bill and a higher team salary.
We can pencil in roughly $94.7 million in committed salaries for Brooklyn next season (this not only assumes that C.J. Watson opts-out, but it also doesn’t count any potential Nets signings such as Andray Blatche or Bojan Bogdanovic this offseason).
In 2014-2015, the Nets would have an additional $6.1 million in committed salaries with the trade than without it for that season. It would make their total committed salaries stand at around $80 million (this assumes the Nets sign both Tornike Shengelia and Tyshawn Taylor to their qualifying offers). Once again, it would leave the Nets well over the cap and still over the tax-line in either scenario.
In 2015-2016, things start to change: instead of having more committed salary with the trade than without it, the Nets will actually decrease the amount of committed salary. The $10,105,855 that is owed to Gerald Wallace in that season is now on the Celtics. It would leave the Nets committed to around $59.4 million (assuming Mirza Teletovic signs a qualifying offer) as opposed to $69.6 milliob with Wallace on the roster for that season.
It could wind up being good for BOS, but we won't know that for a while. They really didn't get any cap relief, the players they got aren't that good or even good trade assets (maybe Hump's expiring) and their picks are of questionable value at the moment. Not a bad trade for BOS, but hard to tell how it will all work out for them right now.
