Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
Seriously Hear me out, I have nothing against pop, to me he is top 5 coach in the league and my favorite one. It's hard to me to say this but after the big time heartbrake he cause to spurs fan, his huge failure and dissepoitment in the game 6, he can't just keep his job like nothing had happened, it's not how the world work, the team will not have chance to return to the right track with him, sad to say but the team need fresh start at the coach position...

No. He lost in the Finals, how is irrelevant. 8 WCF appearances in 17 seasons in unbelievable. 5 NBA finals appearances for a small market team in less than 2 decades in unprecedented. Threads like these make me feel like Spurs fans are more of a problem than Pop is.
The Spurs won 20 straight games including 10 straight postseason games and then lost four straight in the WCF after being 2 games away from the NBA Finals. The Spurs had the best record in the league for a good chunk of the season. Injuries to key players such as Leonard, Duncan, Parker, & Ginobili all missed at least 10 games and we still won 58 games and 15 postseason games.73-29 this past season and 60-20 last season.
In the past two seasons he lead us to a combined (regular and post season) record of 133-49 (.730). If you know anyone else in the NBA who can replicate that success then you should be a GM.
By the way in recent seasons the team who loses in the Finals come out strong
After the Pistons lost to us in 05' they won a franchise record 64 games and had 4 all stars
After the Mavs lost in the Finals in 06' they lost 4 games to start the season and then preceded to go 67-11 en route to a 67-15 mark.
After the Thunder lost in the Finals they won 60 games this past season.

I am sure he'll get a job elsewhere..do you want Pop to coach the opposing team? when he knows the moves of Duncan, TP, Manu & Kawhi..their weaknesses :rolleyes

You don't fire a top 5 coach in the league. The other 4 won't be available, because their STUPID fans aren't calling for their heads, so you'd have to go with a lesser coach. Stupid.

Wouldn't have to worry about Pop coaching against them. Tim and Manu would retire IMMEDIATELY if they fired Pop, and Tony would likely demand a trade.

All true but you missing the point... I'm not argue that he is not a great coach and help us a lot getting where we went, but because the end of game 6 collapse that he cause and responsible to and the extraordinary heartbrake and devastating he cause to all spurs family It's the mental thing for the team that will be hard to carry on with if him continue as a coach, it will bring Chemistry and confident issues between the team.

I guess your world is different from the NBA world. He will keep his job like nothing happened, and the team will still get into playoffs, and have a fresh start at a new season.

Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
I've been hating Pop for the mistakes that he made in Game 6 but firing Pop is taking things too far. There are lots of NBA fans out there that wish they had a coach like Pop that can get his team into the playoffs year in and year out. Pop is stubborn and fixated on the way he does things but he's still a great coach. He just fuc*ed up.

Funny, I can recall in the past you have said shit like Pop rode on Duncan to 4 titles; he didn't do anything. Changing your opinions now I see?

I'll never change my opinion. Pop and Manu cost Timmy #5 but that doesn't mean that I would want Pop to be fired. And yes without Tim Duncan, Pop would probably have no championships. How many championships would Tim Duncan have without Pop under a different coach? I guess we'll never know. How many rings would Jordan have without Phil Jackson but under a different coach? Those are some tough questions. Bottom line is that you need that superstar like Tim Duncan or Michael Jordan to win championships.

Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
I'm not saying Pop should be fired but maybe he should go back to the front office like Pat Riley did in Miami. Let one of his assistants step up to the plate. Coaching takes energy and I am just not sure Pop has enough fire at this point. He seems to auto-coach a little too much which is not going to get it done.

How does losing in game 7 of the NBA finals create chemistry and confidence issues? I'm getting your points but the logic is illogical to me. Its not like the big 3 hasn't experience heartbreak before. That .04 shot was devastating as well several other postseason occasions, The Lakers series in 08', the Game 7 vs Dallas. The Aforementioned OKC series debacle. The Spurs are resilient, they don't know how to quit and Pop won't let them. The will be back and hungry to win it all. I wouldn't be shocked to see them win 60. The Spurs are a couple of piece away from winning a title next season and have more than enough cash to get those pieces. Aminu, & Jack would be excellent fits.

You're welcome to jump ship at any time. Most teams would kill for this recent success. They will be back and should have a great shot of winning an weak west and going deep in the playoffs with this teams improving defense.

I haven't called for his firing. I want him to stop his stupid stubborn playoff losing ways since 2008, his tired small ball that has doomed the Spurs for 6 years or so, and to get back to what won those Championships. He needs to grow some balls and quit matching up to other teams and worry about SPURS basketball.
But no matter what, he DID fuck up, mega huge enormous kinda big time. Everyone knows that. He screwed Duncan out of #5 this year. No way around that.

I agree. Good luck trying to reason with some of these Spurs homers. Now what was the solution to countering the Heat's small lineup? Simple. Pop should of replaced Tiago Splitter with Boris Diaw. What did Pop do instead? He inserts Manu and Gary Neal to matchup with those midgets. Boris Diaw was the solution. Diaw is not afraid to post up against Mike Miller or Norris Cole. Diaw has the strength to defend Lebron. Leonard on Wade would have been a great matchup.

I lol'ed when he didn't go back to Diaw after Diaw having a strong first half. I knew a Pop implosion was coming. I mean it was surely sad, but all one who knows Pop's ways could do is laugh.

Don't hold your breath - dipshit -
By the way - genius coach took 6 years to get back to the finals - where the players gift-wrapped title #5 in a nice little bow-tie---
but genius coach wouldn't leave well enough alone - and gave the title to the HEAT -- and then he celebrated with them.

Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
Genius coach managed team in such away that they got to the finals when many of you thought they were done. Genius coach has helped Duncan extend his career. Genius coach is responsible for instilling the "spurs" culture we now take for granted. There was no spurs culture before pop, if you are old enough to remember. Silly twenty something spurs fan, spurs are for grown ups.

The culture was all Tim being the most coachable and humble superstar ever, Pop piggybacked an all time great just like Spoelstra.
-
Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
You are wrong. The culture was a deliberate management strategy that was contemplated pre Duncan. It is in part why bob hill had to go. That said Duncan made the transition easier because of his willing character but moreso because of Robinson willing to buy in and acquiesce. Study any corporate structure and you will see that lasting culture changes take effect when a CEO champions the change, models it, lives it, and begins to make decisions based on it. Yes Duncan was the ideal superstar for pops way, but it doesn't diminish that it always has been pops way.
-
Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
Yeah, he's really horrible. To coach his team to within 5.2 seconds of winning an NBA championship, his fifth - what a failure.
-
Re: Pop should resign from his job or to get fire
So why do the same posters that think Pop is great also think Spoelstra sucks and just wins becuase of the talent on his team? You cant have it both ways....Pop has won because he had the best PF of All Time in his prime...to go along with Robinson, Manu, and Parker. Spoelstra is on the way to going to 4 straight Finals appearances and winning a 3 peat. Hell Phil Jackson never even went to 4 straight Finals as an NBA coach.

i think that now after pop collapse and let down his players big time, cause them at the end to miss championship, now with him continue as a coach after what happened, somthing that the team never experience, could rise some trust issues, that's how the world work, there is a reason why coaches get fired after big failures and stuff...
this is why i say pop should go, despite it being hard for me to say and despite that i love pop and it would not be the same without him, but for the team to keep any kind of chance of title he have to go...
