top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
and top3 2012-13 spurs you dont want to be signed
Combinations that are possible only, not like CP3+DHO or something :lol
SIGN:
Jarrett Jack
Byron Mullens (young, athletic, has jumpshot, but should not shoot fcking threes)
....
DO NOT SIGN:
1. Tiago
2. Splitter
3. Beims
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
SG- tyreke evans
SF- aminu
C/PF- al jefferson
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Al Jefferson should be the top target and let Splitter go. Splitter is in his prime and almost 29 years old and only averaging 10 and 6. LMAO Let him walk and get Jefferson.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
PG - Jarret Jack, PF - Al Jefferson, PF - David West
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Want 1) Dwight Howard head issues aside the talent is undeniable, 2) David West if no Dwight then DWest is the best front court mate for Timmy, 3) Tiago Splitter if no to the first two he is the third best option, I am just not feeling the Jazz big men. Honorable mention Jarrett Jack Spurs need a 2nd ball handler that can get/make his own shot Don't want 1) Kevin Martin 2) Jeff Teague or 3) Igoudala (great talent and great defender but we don't need a three, we need help up front or a backup playmaker for TP) money best spent elsewhere
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Top 3 FA moves:
1.Evans
2. Aminu
3.Korver
Trade for Thomas Robinson is 1 1/2 though

Can you imagine a front court of Duncan/Jefferson? That would be sick. Both can score from anywhere in the paint.

Not a free agent, but is Marcin Gortat still playing well? Maybe a sign-and-trade with Splitter for him. Try to get something for Splitter at least, don't just let him walk.

Dwight Howard learning from Tim Duncan? Look what it did for Hibbert. Imagine what it'd do for him.

Aminu and MAYBE a backup point.
The team is good enough to win as is. They just need to grow more. As Duncan ages, Splitter and Baynes should get better. As Ginobili and Parker decline, Green and Leonard should take bigger roles. De Colo and Joseph should be better next season as well. The team is in position to use their cap space on the best player available. They don't have any needs that won't be fixed with the minimum. They should just look for talent, potential and value this off-season.

The Spurs have to find somebody tougher. Splitter is just too soft.. Bring Splitter back and they may lose in the WCF against OKC. They have to find a better option..

Good bigs are locked up. Who is realistically attainable out there out of these tough bigs? I mean, I'm all for a S&T for Tyson Chandler, but I don't think NY is interested.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
I don't get why people would want Al Jefferson. He's coming off last season where he made 15 million so I can't see him taking much less than 10 mil. His defense makes Tiago Splitter look like Bill Russell. His plus/minus number for the year is so low (-8.2) that I can't find another significant player on a winning team that even comes close. Of all the bigs on Utah last year-- Enes Kanter, Millsap, Favors, DeMarre Carroll, Marvin Williams, and Jefferson-- Jefferson's +/- is the worst, and it's not even close. No team he has played significant minutes on has ever won more than 43 games in a season. Why would you want him?
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
1. Milsap
2. David West
3. Monta Ellis (yes, he's a volume shooter, but he's a better option than Ginobili at this point. He's athletic as hell, an create his own shot, get to the rim, hit the 3, and create assists) He averaged 19pts, 6 asts, 4 rebounds last year on 41% shooting (the negative), but he's 27 and would FLOURISH as a 2nd or 3rd option on this team.

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
We have 3 main needs the backup pg is need number oneI like Jarrett jack but a few other options are
C.j. watson
Beno
Harris
Oj mayo (more combo gaurd and maybe out of our checkbooks reach but could be worth the cost )
A combo forward would be next
Ak47 is a fine choice if we can afford him
Martell webster
Wesley johnson
Nick young
And im not sure about splitter so looking for the banging big to soak up some minutes for duncan
Jason smith(ok not a banger but can play both 4 and 5)
Aldrich
Mullens
Im a blair fan but I dont see him as a fit neal has to go bonner needs to be amnesty and manu better take less money splitter not worth what others will pay.
Of course id go nuts to get al jeff or josh smith but the spurs FO hasnt changed there ways guys. I dont see much change in our roster but one can hope.

LMAO. That's what I say to myself. If you mention DH12 the reply is "no thanks, we don't need him." If you mention Jarrett Jack the reply is "no thanks, he sucks." If you mention Al Jefferson the reply is "I don't want him he suc*s on defense." Most of these replies come from the Manu worshippers and Popsuckers.

With a different role manu can be very valuable. I can see pop giving manu an ultimatum; less money, lesser role.
As for splitter, name one better fit that is realistically attainable and meets the criteria of a spur. He's not a threat at this point to a heat or thunder team but we still have to go through big teams like the Lakers, grizzlies, and clippers, maybe even the pacers and he is very valuable there. If he works on his game a little bit namely passing out of the pick n roll, and power dribbles off the catch he could be more effective. But as in mobile competent centers that fit our system, It's slim Pickens. Plus he has 3 years experience within the system. That knowledge at this point is invaluable.
The spurs didn't lose because pop or manu. We were one combo guard away from a championship imo
I agree that kawhi needs to be the third option next year and that he's earned it. As for the bench a new sixth man is what we need imo so I rate tyreke Evans first cause he's young and could be a future building block with Leonard, and then jack as a win now.
I see manu as a fifth option. At that level we would be really deep.

You really think Splitter is going to get any better? He had age 18-25 to get better. He is at his peak right now. As for Baynes you guys think he's going to develop into a Dwight Howard or something. In reality he is just a DJ Mbenga type of player. He is also in his peak years at 26.

Agreed spurs are set 1-4 .another pf/c is the only other way spurs improve that starting unit.gpurs need to bolster that bench and find a younger jax replacement

Umm don't forget that Tim and Manu (he's done for sure) will be a year older. Seriously you Spurs homers think that our Big 3 are eternal.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Another issue the past 2 years is the Spurs rotations have gotten too short when series have gotten "intense" where they can only trust 2-3 guys. That needs to be corrected.
Granted the Spurs were nearly 5 sec away from winning it all, but still.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Outside of Ginobili and Splitter
1.) Tyreke Evans
2.) Corey Brewer - backup for Kawhi
3.) Veteran backup PG that can mentor the other ones a la TJ Ford or Jacque Vaughn
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Oh and while I'm still on the fence about Splitter, one thing is he did play in 81 games for the Spurs last season, can't take that away from him.
Side note:
Matthew R Tynan @Matthew_Tynan
It's June 30, and the Spurs haven't offered a qualifying offer to Tiago.

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Splitters not going to improve, already pushing close to 30. He is cut from the same cloth as Bonner. Decent in the regular season, cant be counted on in the playoffs. Rasho had more toughness and heart than this guy. Hopefully they can sign him back for the same money as his last contract, cause that's what he's worth at this point.

Improving Splitter's issues has little to do with age. He can certainly be smarter about when he goes up to score and fix his tendencies. He was a lot better in Europe because he had a different mentality. He just has to get back to that. He's also more versatile on offense than he's seemed the last few years. Once he gets his jump shot back, he could be a VERY good offensive big.
Baynes isn't old for a big man at all. Most of them don't really have it figured out until they're 30. Same goes for Splitter.

Mad interesting, and borderline irresponsible, that they wouldn't give him a QO. They must have a good idea of what free agent they'd get. Even so, it wouldn't make sense not to tender Splitter. They can always retract the QO in the first couple of weeks of free agency if they need the space. They only way it would make sense not to tender him would be if they don't want him back and honestly fear he would sign his QO.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Splitter has been a pro since he was 12 or something, he peaked let's be honest.
Baynes on the other hand is a late bloomer so I'm hopeful.

There's a difference between peaking physically (which he pretty much has) and being the best he's going to be as a player. Splitter had a better game in Europe. If he got back to that, he'd be a better NBA player.

I'm not surprised. I think teams are less likely to overpay if he's not rfa. Spurs don't have to match and they can sign him right away. Also doesn't wrap up money, correct me if I'm wrong.
I see him getting asik money.

He's proven his worth over and over again. He's just not aggressive enough. If Pop gives him the word, he'll start. I think that's why he brought in the two big-men coaches.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Don't be alarmed with the lack of reporting with regards to Tiago and the QO. I'm confident they tendered the offer.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Tiago has his shortcomings, but 6'11" guys with a PER of 18.72 who make under 8 mil/year are relatively rare and not easy to come by. You don't just throw that away without a secure back up plan. I hope he'll follow the examples of Tim, Manu, and Tony and stay in San Antonio for less than max money. Assuming he does and Manu resigns for around 5 mil, these are the free agents I'd like the Spurs to land:
1. Brandan Wright. A long, lanky C/PF with a very good mid range jump shot and a high FG%. Very efficient offensive player. Has the highest PER and +/- numbers of any big men available who won't break the bank to sign. Started off slow in his career but seems to be hitting his stride now. Very efficient shot blocker who rarely gets in foul trouble. Mediocre rebounder. I feel like he complements Splitter perfectly: Splitter's the better defender against bigger, more traditional post-scoring centers (Memphis, Indiana, Golden State, etc.), and Wright would be the better match up against faster, more athletic small ball line ups like Miami, OKC, and Denver.
2. Mike Dunleavy SG/SF. I know a lot of people say he's a poor defender, but 4 consecutive seasons of very good +/- numbers for two different teams show that he's an asset when on the floor, especially as a back up who can be put in in good match ups. Excellent shooter from 3 pt and mid-range, and he's taller than Neal, Green, Manu, and Kawhi. He's a surprisingly good rebounder. His last contract with Milwaukee was for 2 years at 3.75 mil each, so again, it's plausible the Spurs could get him for something similar, and most likely, a bit cheaper... maybe for the Room Exception of 2.575 mil.
3. Shaun Livingston, PG. This would be yet another unglamorous choice. He's a good ball handler with good court vision who doesn't turn the ball over. Not a great jump shooter, but a clever passer. Plays D, has good height and length for the PG position. Reliable, not spectacular, but doesn't make mistakes-- the perfect 2nd string point guard. He made under 1 million last year, which means he can most likely be had for less than the Room Exception of 2.575 mil...
4. Al Farouq Aminu, SF. Incredible rebounder who at the Small Forward position rebounds at a higher rate than Al Horford, Tiago Splitter, and Blake Griffin. Good defender, with a 7'3-1/4" wingspan. Is taller and has a bigger standing reach than Kawhi Leonard. In his three years in the NBA his FG% has risen each year: .395/.411/ .475. Not a good jump shooter, often tentative about taking shots.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Splitter will be re-signed. R.C. has already basically guaranteed it barring some ridiculous offer being thrown his way. And let's face it, after the Finals, no team is going to offer Splitter much. At least nothing the spurs can't/won't match.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
1. Howard (Won't Happen but he is a LOT better than he looked last season.)
2. West (Not as talented as Howard but also won't cost as much. But he has some fire which I like. Still won't happen.)
3. Tyreke Evans (He is still young and has a lot of promise. If he is willing to listen to Pop and really work at it I think he has the physical tools to become an All Star some day. And I think the Spurs coaching staff have what it takes to get him there because he definitely needs some work. The fact that he seemed to have regressed somewhat could make it easier to sign him for less than he may be worth after a few years under Pop's tutelage.)
Note: I still want Manu back IF we can get him on the CHEAP! The key here is that we should no longer count him as part of the big three and as a go to closer for most games. Certainly not in the next playoffs. We really need to find someone that can replace his role as a scoring closer. But over the course of an 82 game season I think he can still be a solid contributor and will help far more than hurt the team.

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
I've always liked Kirilenko's game, but he'll turn 33 next year... and he just opted out of $10 million, so I'd guess he'd expect something like 3 years/24 mil at the very least. Would the Spurs be willing to do that?
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Al Jefferson would be my #1 guy to sign. Sign Splitter to play off the bench for his defense(let's not forget that he helped shut down Gasol and Z-Bo in the WCF). A backup PG that can score and run the 2nd group would be nice as well. Maybe CoJo can improve his offensive game next season and run the 2nd group efficiency.
-
Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
I'll take D12 but that's much to ask for, so give me Josh Smith and Corey Brewer resign Manu and let's role this is of course hoping Bayne is much improved, there might also be some stand out Summer Leaguer ala Neal a couple years ago

Anybody who thinks Tyreke fucking Evans is an improvement to any team is an idiot. He's the guy who has gotten worse every single year he's been in the league. He's horrible. No way in hell the Spurs get near this cancer. He's a stooge, horrible shooter, horrible attitude, and literally gets worse from season to season.

I do hope that's the case. We need somewhat proven player and so, Tiago>>>>Baynes
As for bigman, I prefer Millsap over Jefferson.
How about the available playmakers in the market that fits to the team's budget?

Its not that he sucks. Its that he doesn't make his teammates better, his ego doesnt fit in the att center and also, and I cant stress this enough, he is a giant fucking baby. Nobody wants to change that diaper here.

I like the idea of sign and trade with Splitter. For anything really, just get something out of him. Don't see why PHX would trade big for big but I would be happy with that.

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
Pekovic, Casspi, Barbosa/Goudelock

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
I want both Splitter and Manu off the team and younger more explosive players on. Pop will not phase out Manu's responsibilities and Manu will still try to play like he always has( behind the back dribble, risky passes and fall away jump shots) because that is the only way he knows how to play. The only way to prevent Manu from hurting the Spurs is to get him off the team.
Manu's game is going to get uglier every year from here on out. Splitter is what he is and not going to improve.
I expect both to be back at a good cost.

Re: top3 free agents you want the Spurs to sign
1. Al Jefferson - Big guy puts us over the top.
2. Jarrett Jack - Won't happen bc he'll sign for more somewhere else, but I'd like it to.
3. Kyle Korver - I'm stuck between this and going the Corey Brewer route, but I think after last year Korver would be a lot cheaper and he's a better shooter so he'd be a better fit to replace Korver. He's a better defender than Neal (hard to believe.)
I'd like for us to resign Ginobili and Splitter, but if Splitter gets offered too much money and we have a shot at someone like Big Al, take him.
