heck...let Splitter+Blair+Neal walk, resign Manu, get Oden and AK47!
If Oden is healthy, he might be a great fit for the Spurs.
Splitter will be resigned and then people will be bitching why we didn't get a broken Oden instead.
They can say that but the guy's been dying to go to the Heat for a while now because he's a front-running cripple who wants to be literally carried to a Championship. Dude looks older than The Admiral anyways. Fuck him.
Oden should only play while wearing a full body cast. Not even Duncan's knee brace can help Oden now.
Pass. Why not sign 60 year old Jordan?
On second thought...
Oden fits well in Miami. They don't need him so the pressure would be small. If he's ready his role would be bigger. Miami can take that risk.
If he's smart he'll strongly consider the spurs for his future...If he wants to be part of team that will most probably be broken up and not contending after next year then he should go to the Miami Heat
I assume Oden would only sign a one-year deal, maybe a two-year deal tops. If he comes back and plays well, he'll be in line for a much bigger contract.
this is a worse then the clamoring for t mac to get playing time.
If Miami wants Oden, the Spurs have no shot.
If he's smart he'll strongly consider the spurs for his future because there is nobody better than Pop in dealing with banged up players. Pop is the master at managing a player's minutes. With the Heat, Oden will be expected to guard the elite big men, and play big minutes therefore increasing the likelihood of getting reinjured.
I really, really want Oden. Spurs need to take a risk like this.
His defensive potential is too great to not seriously consider him.
One of those could of would of should of guys but heck even Bowie had some productive years when he was traded away from Portland. While he won't be what he was projected to be he could fill a nice roll for a few minutes a night
Wow, he hasn't played since 2009. That's a huge risk. He apparently keeps having micro-fractures in his knees.
Hope he's spent all that time off having adamantium inserted into his knees.
Anyone heard whether Oden will agree to work out for any teams? If not, the big risk becomes even bigger.
The issue about Oden, obviously, is that "does he still have enough left on his tank to play?" He had undergone numerous surgeries to repair his weak knees and it was reported to us that all went successful but it is very alarming that he hasn't played for about 3 or 4 years. I would be surprised if the Spurs are considering him as replacement to Splitter - if Spurs don't match other team's offer - or for him to play significant minutes. Moreover, considering that the Spurs are in the all-in-to-win-it situation now that they are in the final years of Duncan's career, I rather that the Spurs use their money on signing Manu and other proven free agents.
Any team willing to take a risk on Oden would be smart to give him a one-year, partially-guaranteed, incentive-laden contract. I realize that is probably NOT what he and his agent would want to hear and would likely take some teams out of the running because some sucker team will be willing to go overboard. However, recall what the Wolves went through with Brandon Roy last year. They stupidly gave the guy a one-year guaranteed contract with a 2nd year option. Dude was limited to a total of 5 games.

Spurs will be 1 of 4 teams that wont get him. Fixed
Not quite sure he makes sense on the Spurs unless they can verify he is healthy, which they can't. If you let Tiago walk and you don't get another reliable big to replace him (Gortat?), then you are relying on a guy who is yet to play a whole season and is essentially a rookie to back up and play next to Timmy. No way the Spurs will do that next year, their last best chance to win a title.
Not exciting in the least for me, I'd pass.
But then again Deshaun Thomas seems to have inside info so who knows (what a great pick in that regard lol, you can't make that stuff up).
It's worth a chance. Maybe Oden can help the Spurs.
Here is the link
He's a douche if he signs with Miami.
In a sense, Oden almost make Sam Bowie look like Lou Gehrig..
I'd like to know who if anyone he has worked out for.
Let him go to south beach and let the mia FO delude themselves into thinking they are all set at C and the moment he's injured they are SOL just like last season and get knocked off in the PO's LOL.
What does it matter? Knowing Pop he won't give Oden any burn. Just gonna let him rot on the bench. Pop: "C'mon bon bon. Get in there and stretch the floor, were up by 36. It's your time to shine, and thank you again for settling for 4 million. Your such a class act".
He'll go to the Heat.
He's willing to work out for them, so it's worth a look. I don't see him making too much money or that much of a splash.
oden wants to go to heat or spurs for a shot at title
Sounds like the list is really down to 3 teams then? I would definitely pay guaranteed money for 1 year to see what the kid has. He and Baynes can fight it out for the 4th big man slot.
just wondering where Bonner fits in all of this. Do the spurs really want to carry 6 bigs?

Has a better hook than Tiago.
The Bonner jump hook is great, tbh. I'm surprised he developed that shot. Tiago's flippy hook shots, or whatever you want to call them, are God awful. He has awesome footwork and a couple of nice pumpfakes around the basket, but he just gets blocked so much. I like Tiago, though.

He'll be working with The Iceman this summer.
I have a hard time believing Oden would go to San Antonio over Miami, but I would have to think if you're Oden you would jump at the opportunity to play and learn from someone like Duncan. No one really knows what he has left in the tank or how healthy he can stay, but if he can stay healthy he is such a huge defensive asset. Injury jokes aside.
Here's hoping for Oden/Kirilenko instead of Bonner/Blair.
blair is goin gto be a hawk
damn were really in it for him huh...
I sign him for the le
thomas says he is in game shape
I would replace blair with oden in a heartbeat
dude can go against duncan in practice
I absolutely want Greg Oden badly. Hopefully he chooses the Spurs. It would be the best place for him IMO.
I wanted the Spurs to take a chance on his last season before they signed Baynes. I still want the Spurs to take a chance on him now. Hopefully he signs with us instead of the Heat.
I wonder if Mills has been doing some recruiting on getting Oden here. They were teammates in Portland and always at the end of the bench. Wonder if there is any friendship connection there.
Spurs need to take a chance. It's amazingly low risk/high reward.
His legs give out on him again? OK. A small gamble didn't pay off.
He somehow overcomes his injuries... have you seen his stats when he actually played? They were incredible.
As far as I am concerned, if Miami gets him and he turns his injury woes around, you might as well hand them their 3rd consecutive title.
Personally, I strongly believe he is going to once again break down...perhaps even before the season starts.
But again, the risk is worth it.
Oden > Splitter Tbh and we can get him at 1/4 of the cost.....
http://motivpic.com/users-data/pics/...epalm-6b27.jpg
The idiots claiming Baynes is better than Splitter are bad enough, but can we at least wait to see if Oden can make it through a pre-game warmup without hurting himself before starting this "debate" up?
Exactly. The guy is a 25 y/o former #1 pick whose problem has never been talent or motivation. This isn't a lazy kid like Eddy Curry or a talent reach like Olowokandi. See if he can get his body right on your watch and minimal investment. If not, you gave it a shot, and didn't give away much. If so, you got a huge steal, and your big man to slide in for Duncan for the next decade.
The Blazers asses would be so chapped if this guy ends up being a good player on our team :lol
Revenge for Batum bitches. Although that did all lead to us getting Kawhi.
oden apparently dislocated his hip when he was in 6th grade and has one leg that is slightly longer than the other. he is basically predisposed to injury. not to mention he has had not one, but three, microfracture surgeries (one of the most difficult procedures to ever fully recover from). he is high, high risk but i'd be okay with a one year deal as long as it does not preclude us from a shot at a more viable option.
Shit yeah. I'm really glad that ended up working out so well for us because Leonard is tons better.
That left handed breakaway dunk as Batum(who is pretty damn long himself) reaches helplessly towards the ball as Leonard just easily keeps it away from him sums it up pretty well.
Someone give David Robinson his cell number.
At this point in the offseason after the signings of Splitter and Ginobili this is the most realistic acquisition I want for the Spurs. He is low risk and high reward. A guy I think back to having injury after injury is Antonio McDyess. McDyess was a huge contributor for the Pistons after all of his injuries. Hopefully, Oden can be the same type of player. The one way small ball can be countered is if a team has two good one-on-one offensive bigs.
Antonio McDyess was one of the great leapers in basketball, and completely re-invented his game after his one lingering injury, and it's almost unheard of for a player to do that. I'm not sure there's any way Oden could do anything similar if his knees don't hold up.

The Mavericks will get "legit consideration" from unrestricted free agent Greg Oden.
The Spurs and Heat are still the frontrunners to sign Oden, but the Mavs may have a little more money to offer. The Mavs are in a bit of scramble for a center after missing on Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum, so Oden is a real option for them. It's worth noting that NBA.com's David Aldridge said that Oden could wait until August to make a decision. Dallas is also considering a deal with Samuel Dalembert. Source: Marc Stein on Twitter Jul 11 - 11:32 AM
if we could somehow get Oden and Kirilenko....
We'll have to be super lucky to get AK and even more so to get Oden, so I doubt we get either.
Spurs mentioned first by Stein. Didn't realize we were that serious about him.
Oden is going to sign with the Heat. It just seems like everyone wants to ride LeBron's coattails these days. He would just be the latest member. If he wanted to actually prove himself, he would come here but that is not going to happen.
Spurs have enough bigs. He wont sign with Spurs.
He will either sign with Miami or Dallas, no one comes here if they don't have to.
If Oden never had another knee injury again, he could easily become the best center in the NBA..... That's a big 'if' but it's well worth the small risk.
Yes I agree we should sign Oden....Small risk Big reward....I do get why some of these doomsayers are against signing this guy? Any additional time he gives as a back up solidifies the paint when the starters are not in? Go figure? We were a rebound, blocked shot, and a seven footer away from another championship?
Poor bastard. I hate seeing rare talents have their careers doomed by injury. Especially ones who aren't complete fuckwits. (Nude photo scandal aside)
He can join the list of the likes of Jamaal Mashburn, Fat Lever (Legendary name), Danny Manning, Yao Ming, TMAC, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway and Shawn Kemp as just a few I wish I saw play healthier longer.
But this guy only played 82 games his whole career, never really had a chance to get going like the others. But I suppose that is sport and that’s the way it goes. Anyways I hope if he can even walk these days we sign him up and see what he can do.
If healthy, he could really salvage the Spurs off season!
Cleveland, Boston, and Memphis have dropped out of the race, but Dallas has jumped in.
It's been reported in the past that DRob is his idol, so give David his number!
And now I hear that Spurs draft pick Deshaun Thomas and him are good friends.
I would risk money on this guy.
My only concern is that this guy is hesitating to come here...Its a red flag....Either his injury is still prevalent or he is just looking for money....Think about it...Why wouldn't he have made his choice between San Antonio or Miami? He has had enough time to consider both? I'm just sayin?
Yes, I agree it is somewhat a red flag, but it also could be quite innocent. He is in school and may be graduating could be one explanation, there are any of a number of things that may explain it.
We just have to wait and see what transpires. At least it's not bogus under the table KGB dealings like with AK! We all know the former KGB runs Russia now, and if you weren't aware of that, now you are.
Pls pick San Antonio
