ODEN TOO! LOL. Get greedy some.

Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
I have no problem bringing him back, it's just all about the deal terms.

Seems like what their plans are. Still need a shot creator though..
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
3/25 is the highest I'd go.

ak47 cancreate shots with diaw

But it's certainly not bad news - Splitter is a highly efficient big on both ends who played a major role in solving the teams issues with twin tower opponents (while still having some teams that he matches up poorly against). He's probably the best lone big on the market that the team has a legit shot at.
That said, need to make sure that any deal with him leaves room for improvements elsewhere. Splitter >>> Pachulia coming off ACL. But going into next season, I'd rather have Zaza + AK47 than Splitter + Casspi (or similar mediocre swingman).

I would offer splitter 5 years but have him option after three
5 for 35 with incentives

Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Glad to hear it, means one less question mark (when he signs) and we'll have a better idea of the cap space Spurs have to work with. plus maybe they'll get manu's out of the way once they're done with Tiago's contract.

Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
I haven't heard of one single other team showing interest in Splitter, other than Portland who can't afford him now anyways. The Spurs need to use this lack of interest to get a bargain on his contract. Don't just give him a 3 yr/$27 million deal just because.

I think Nando could fill that role if he gets minutes and practices his mid range game this summer. Make them respect your shot, opens up lanes, bounce passes actually make it to their intended recipient. And he's already under contract.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
8 mil per seems about right
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Anything less than 7 mil for Tiago should have his agent fired on the spot....

Agree. 3/25 or 4/30.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
All the rumors hopefully means the Spurs hardball negotiated a good deal with Splitter.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Damn.. had to expect it though.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Another regular season performer.:bang
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
I can live with an 8-9M offer sheet. Hopefully that NBA Finals performance scared away teams, but you know some team like the Blazers and Rockets are ready to screw over the Spurs.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Tim's finals backup being paid a couple mil less than him.:lmao
He wasn't even a good backup.

Not sure who would be getting screwed in this scenario.
9M a year for a player that nobody trusts lol. Everyone would rather have 4M yr Diaw in the game.

Word is teams that were pursuing restricted free agent big man appear to be dropping off in anticipation of Spurs & Splitter coming to terms

Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
San Antonio is finalizing a five year, $45 million contract extension for center Tiago Splitter, league sources tell Y! Sports.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
This seems about right, Spurs won't gamble and they won't let a player walk away. Tiago will get paid and probably were no other parties interested or were really in contention. Parties rumored probably trying to get Spurs to eat up cap so they can't offer deals to anyone.. So we'll just have the same returning team as last year and pray Tim/Tony can have another monster year.

No doubt its tough, I dnt believe its a no brainer for the spurs unless splitter was the only real option at c

Yeah, he's significantly better than Tiago. Tiago shouldn't get anywhere near what he gets. He wasn't even a competent backup in the finals.

This could be a VERY good deal for the Spurs, depending on how it is structured and what the options are on the final 2 years of the deal.
-

Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
8 mil for Tiago is not a bad deal...Not sure bout the 5 yrs but there could be some options in there as well. Welcome back Tiago

Definitely interested to see the details of the contract. 5 years? wow.

too much money and a lot of years.
I don't like this deal
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Don't mind the $9 million a year but damn five years...
Maybe they're banking on Oden into turning into the next franchise player:lol

That would be a kick in the gut but about what I expect the Spurs to do.. It's pretty embarrassing to pay a 10/6 guy that amount.

I dont want the Spurs to give more than $7M!!!

Yeah, depending on how it escalates, 5/$45 isn't necessarily much more than 3/$25 if there are option years.

Tiago about to get a slam dunk of a deal!

Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Tiago was dropped from the Brazilian NT yesterday. Because of his uncertain contract situation, Brazil could not get the required insurance. One possibility is that Tiago is trying to get this thing done soon so he can still make it to the NT.

Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Whoa. Seems a bit much, but I'll wait to see the terms.
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Ehh... that's a lot, but I honestly expected him to get at least 10 million a year.
The Spurs must still really be high on him to give him a 5 year contract.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
So what is that like 9 per
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
west got 3 years for 36 and he is old
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
If this is true its Spurs overreacting.. I mean really? 9M for a guy who averages 10/6 and plays 24 minutes? Really? Spurs better have some kind of plan to fuse him with David Robinson
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Kurt Helin @basketballtalk 1m
The Spurs are going to use their five-year extension on Tiago Splitter and not save it for Kawhi?

Solid point
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Not a bad deal if the terms are right.. Also still leaves us wiggle room for a solid addition.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Houston is maxing out Josh Smith after DH says no.
-
Re: Spurs and Splitter in Talks: Progressing Towards Deal
Not as bad as it sounds for current cap:
With the yearly increases for a Bird FA, this deal will start closer to 7M for 2013-2014. The bigger numbers will hit in years 4 & 5, when the team is rebuilding around Kawhi anyways.
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Not really a bad deal, considering the current state of big men and what Tiago could probably get from other teams (I expected him to get $10mil+).
Still, not really what I was hoping for. Guess the FO is higher on Splitter than most of us are.
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
he played well in the playoffs except in the finals. im not even mad about the deal. we are gonna need him to get back in the finals.
-
Re: ESPN Stein: Tiago and Spurs ramped up talks
Tiago brought some heat against the big teams. He was crucial in memphis.
