Don't put too much stock into this.
He would have to come ultra cheap and I still wouldn't count on it.
Man I'm fuc*ing tired of hearing "Spurs interested in..." and the FO doesn't do shi*.
Don't have any cap space so we have to fight for shitty long shots like Oden and Bynum...
LMAO me fuckn too., This FO is all talk, feel like throwing a towel at them right nowhttp://i53.tinypic.com/2e51t1k.gif cue the your not a true fan hate lol
this off season has been very underwhelming. i shouldn't be surprised tho
This is kinda boring. Spurs and Heat are interested in everybody, who isnt goint to get fat paycheck
Rumors are spawned from the FO. Media, player agents creating these stories to remain relevant or evoke interest in their player. Unfortunately we support a franchise that people admire and so a great way to make a guy look good is to say 'Spurs are interested'.
Don't blame the FO, blame the media and/or player agents that would hatch these stories.
We dont have any money to sign him. Manu and Splitter ate it up. Bynum will get 10+mil/yr deal.
If a rumor like this gets your hopes up, you're in for a looooong offseason.
He'd be a decent backup for Baynes. The Spurs should sign him for league min.
OK...for those who aren't already aware of this, you will hear many times "The San Antonio Spurs have expressed interest in...." without them actually having any interest. This is either an agent trying to raise the stock of his player, or the front office helping out a former employee who is now in the front office elsewhere. Truth is, if news breaks that the Spurs are interested in someone, they probably aren't. The FO is real secretive about things like that.
if he's healthy.....im all in
The current CBA apparently has a thing where you can add a "pre-existing injury" clause to a contract, and if you end up waiving the player because of that injury, the rest of the contract is non-guaranteed and you're off the hook.
Under a contract like that, Bynum could be worth a deal.
Whats up with the potato is he like the sheriff of this place, and is that smiling manu of 2003 poster like his lil deputy? http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vXwAcR5d8a...dY/s1600/1.gif
lol you know what's sad? Is that if this was a big market team in NY, CA, or FL players would gladly take the minimum to flock there after a finals loss. But since it's in San Antonio, even veterans have a hard time convincing themselves they want to play there, let alone taking a pay cut.
Bottom Line: We're strapped paying Ginobili ridiculous millions until Tim retires.
Are you sure? If that was the case then why haven't these guys gotten decent offers already? That doesn't sound right to me. If you can just waive them and are off the hook, then I would have thought more teams with cap space would have offered guys like Bynum a contract already.
Maybe they have and there's just not a deal yet?
I ran across the reference to "Exhibit 3" (the Prior Injury Exception) in a discussion about Bynum with Larry Coon here: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/...e-agents-worth
The NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement (https://www2.bc.edu/~yen/Sports/NBA%20CBA.pdf) states:
Quote:
Article II, Section 3. Allowable Amendments:
In their individual contract negotiations, a player and a Team may amend the provisions of a Uniform Player Contract, but only in the following respects:
[...]
(g) By agreeing upon provisions (to be set forth in Exhibit 3 to a Uniform Player Contract) limiting or eliminating the player's right to receive his Cash Compensation (in accordance with paragraphs 7(c), 16(a)(iii), and 16(b) of the Uniform Player Contract) when the player's disability or unfitness to play skilled basketball is caused by the reinjury of an injury sustained prior to, or by the aggravation of a condition that existed prior to, the execution of the Uniform Player Contract providing for such Cash Compensation.
It would hilarious if this is where he landed. Kind of like a FO "see what we did there"
Man, Andrew Bynum is retarded, he's been getting crazy paid and taking the year off!!! Now he wants a contract, but refuses to work out? Dude needs to go back to coming up with new hairstyles. I'd like to see him rock the high top fade from House Party, myself, learn that jailhouse rap that be like 'I'm talkin from the heart...the center....the sign on my ass says DO NOT ENTER"
Both sides have to agree to such a provision. I doubt that Bynum has any interest, at this point in the process, in accepting a deal where he doesn't get paid in the event of a re-injury.
A somewhat analogous situation happened with Amare when he left the Suns. The Suns were only willing to guarantee three of the five years due to the injury risks and insurance issues. The Knicks were willing to guarantee all five years and assume the risks.
Players won't assume any additional risk until they're convinced that there isn't a single team that will give them a fully guaranteed deal.
The dude was out for a year for bowling and he's demanding 15M/yrs. No thank you.
The Spurs should take a chance on Bynum. If they're interested in Oden, why not Bynum? He could end up being a bargain.
I would love to have seen Bynum end his season with a well placed elbow smash to Shane Battier's chest during his flop fest, tbh.
He wasn't out only for bowling. Problem was bigger.
Team's work outs? He's not retarded. He knows his knees are done. At this point Oden could be healthier than him.
