Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Asik is one of the most underrated Bigman in the league right now. That said, the spurs don't need him.
We badly need a small ball PF. With Millsap out of the question, AK47 is a must.

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Rockets aren't looking to trade one of the best defensive bigs in the NBA to their greatest challenger for the SW Division title next year when they just acquired one of the game's most athletic but offensively limited centers.
In other words trading Asik to SA defeats the whole purpose of luring Howard to the Rockets, especially when the Spurs already have the personnel to keep Howard contained tbh.

you would give up Manu Ginobili in his prime for Adam Morrison if it were up to you, tbh.

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Tiago for Asik straight-up.
Not sure how the salaries work out, though, tbh.

I don't think Asik wants to be in the void of Houston especially since he occupies the paint and that's what Dwight does.

Thats too bad. I know Dwight Howard is dying to team up with Matt Bonner. Maybe we could trade Belinelli instead?
-
Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
No, Pop would want Howard, Bonner and Manu, the big 3.. Trade harden instead.

Lets pull a Keith Van Horn and S&T the Greek T-Mac for him. Either that or the actual T-Mac.

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Omer Asik wants to surround himself with international intelligence, not gringo stupidity and monkeyball.
Come to the Spurs, Omer.............

It's not up to Omer and the person whom it is up to isn't looking to do the Spurs any favors.

No shit, Sherlock...

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
The only deal they probably couldn't refuse would be Bonner + Green.
But for us it doesn't make sense since we already gave Tiago such a big contract and are stuck with him for a while...

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Expect the Rockets to acquire Josh Smith in a sign and trade (probably by Dwight Howard's request). Expect Asik to be at least part of the trade.
Omer Asik was 77th in WS.
The 77th highest salary was $8,083,000 (John Salmons).

I'd love it, but there is less than a 1% chance of it happening.
-
Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
But if Spurs could do it, Bonner and Joseph for Asik straight up.
Starting Lineup:
PG: Tony Parker
SG: Danny Green
SF: Kawhi Leonard
PF: Tim Duncan
C: Omer Asik
Backups:
PG: Manu Ginobili
SG: Marco Belinelli
SF: Jeff Pendergraph
PF: Boris Diaw
C: Tiago Splitter
2014 world champs!!!

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
I would love to have Omer on the team.
-
Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Houston want to dump Rin's contract along with Asik but no team has any interesting in taking Rin's contract. Rockets have already used up his market value so he's pretty much a dead stock now tbh.
But I don't think trading asik would be a good move for Houston. They're gonna need an insurance in the event DH should receive a season-ending injury or go on strike.

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out

First off; Tinsley?! Second, why would the FO spend the $$ they did on Tiago to have him coming off the bench?

Well, bring Asik off the bench......look at the money Manu was making and he came off the bench.
As for Tinsley, yes that one is shocking to see, but why not? We took Ford a few years ago, even after his injury issues....and he was doing well for us, until that freakish fall. Tinsley has baggage, but so did Jax and Neal. I think Tinsley could be a solid reserve for Parker.

Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
I know that this is less likely than Stern ruling against the Nets acquisition of AK47 - but I thought that I'd share since the rumors have seemed to die down recently:

NOOOO LMA should be going to SAS!!! Splitter + Bonner + Mills/De Colo/Neal for LMA + Claver. I wonder why the Pistons want Lin tho, don't they have a glut with Knight, Caldwell-Pope, and Stuckey? Add to that Will Bynum. Plus I heard they aren't trading Asik and Lin until they've inflated their respective trade values.
-
Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Duncan is a center, Splitter plays well at center, and Baynes might be available for spot minutes this season. I don't see why the Spurs would want Asik when he clearly wants to start.
-
Re: Source: Omer Asik might want out
Prospective teams holding the rights to Joakim Noah, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Al Horford and Anthony Davis, as of now, have declined to involve their franchise players in any potential deals for Aldridge, a league source told CSNNW.com.
There is no way Portland gives up Aldridge for Asik when they just acquire Lopez to be their starting C. And two with Lillard and McCollum, why in the hell would they want Lin.
Asik and Lin are staying IMO. They are due 30 million next year (15 a piece) and that is why no one wants them. Rockets are stuck with those two for the next two years.

Trade Splitter for Asik straight up. Their salaries are similar so I'm pretty sure that the numbers match. Asik is a better rebounder and rim protector than Splitter. I'll take defense and rebounding over offense any time of the day. Chip can work on Asik's free throws. Timmy can teach him some footwork on the post like he's done with Tiago.

They are actually due around half of that. Both Lin and Asik will earn just under $8.4M each this upcoming season (and the same salary the following season, which will be the final year in both of their deals).

The way I understood it, the cap hit is around $8.3M per year, but the team who has Lin or Asik has to pay them $15M in actual cash for that third year (and around $5M for this year). Thus a team that trades for one of them has a cap hit of $8.3M each of the next two seasons, but actually has to pay out $20M in salary.

Lin and Asik are both due ~$5M for 13/14 and ~$15M for 14/15, but their cap hits are ~$8.3M for each of the next two seasons. So it appears that you have the details correct. A team trading for Asik would have a pay ~$1.7M/year that won't count against the cap/luxury threshold. That means that they would get one of the best centers in the NBA for a below market contract. It really doesn't matter how much he gets in year 2 and year 3 of the contract, because a team trading for him is likely wanting to keep him for both remaining years. I think that Asik is a player that a LOT of teams would want to trade for - including the Spurs (if you listen to most of the fans on this forum before Splitter was resigned).
Now Lin, OTOH, I have to agree with you. His deal is going to be MUCH more difficult to move, but not impossible. Remember when we thought that no one would be willing to take "he who shall remain nameless" off of our hands?

Lin's numbers weren't bad at all last season. Per of 14.9 (Just below league average) 13.5 pts, (44FG % 33.9 3PT, both just below average) 6.2 asts, 2.9 T.Os (better than his Linsanity turnover fest) and has really only played 1 season and 1/2. He is 24 (going on 25). He also provides built in interest from overseas which could be lucrative in and of itself. A bad team looking for a PG could do much worse. He can definitely still improve. Once he gets settled into a situation (he's been on 4 teams already) he could be a much more consistent player. The thing that is holding him back is his shooting (he struggled early on from the field before raising it up a bit) If he can hit for above the league average of 35%3pt he become an above average player.

Would be scary A L.A./ Harden p&r situation.
Portland would have a decent front line but would need a floor space with Lopez and Asik in the rotation.
Lin would probably have to play off ball at the 2 and also play backup pg Behind Lillard. I'd make Houston throw in a 1st rounder before pulling the trigger on the deal if I was Portland.
