Very happy to get That Dude on this team. I believe he'll excel on this team and help us more so than Neal.
I remember wanting him badly that year. Both him and Rudy Fernandez were ranked very highly on my draft board, but I was surprised when he went at 18 to the GS Warriors. We ended up drafting Tiago Splitter 10 spots later. And then Marcus Williams 5 spots after that.
That draft also featured the humorous Giorgos Printezis event. Everyone had basically left the Garden and at 58 the Spurs drafted Giorgos Printezis...who was there in the arena, and actually went down and put on a Spurs cap and everything. But before the draft was over (only two picks later) he had been traded to Toronto. Classic.

Yep, I was trying to find a Youtube clip but it's just too obscure to find in a 2 minute search. But you're right about the quote.
I remember he was like sitting on the far back row at the extreme nose-bleed section of the garden just waiting for 58 to roll around.
And he wasn't traded immediately. But very shortly after he put the cap on we started hearing information that he was gone. Of course, the NBA's expeditious draft day trades process did delay the formal announcement by a mere 17 days or so.
Is that Comic Sans? He put that thing together? Lol. Well, welcome, my Italian friend.
Welcome to the Silver & Black, Sylvester.

Welcome, welcome. I have a good feeling about this signing. I really think he'll be a nice fit.
(But then, I thought the same about RJ.)
I'm excited to have Beli on the team. Should be a seamless integration and his shooting should improve in this offense.
Damn I've seen jokes on here about RJ being gay...now I know why he called off his wedding :lol
Sorry for fundamentally changing the topic of the thread. Everytime someone mentions RJ it's an involuntary reaction. You know the type...
James White!
But anyway, welcome Marco Belinelli!
CAPS LOCK!

This guy will be a good fit. He needs to improve on D and shave his neck while he is at it.
"work hard" is as ambiguous as it gets...
As long as he dont turn into another Hedo Türkoğlu!
I hope Manu teaches him all the dirty tricks.
"First you get into a position where you can't make a pass, then you jump up into the air and throw it to the other team", "as soon as you get the pass even if you're 30 feet away from the basket chuck it up sometimes.. it might go in"
I kid, I kid
I like the signing, should be another solid role player
Welcome Marco "Bellissimo" Belinelli.
Because your three point shot will look "lovely" going in the hoop.
This guy's a pretty good package. Can shoot the three, can shoot midrange, can shoot off the dribble, can even create his own shot. Hustles on defense. Athletic (for a European lol). Team player. Plus he's got better size than Neal, RMJ, George Hill, or pretty much every undersized combo guard the Spurs has had over recent years. Terrific signing for the amount that he's worth, I hope he'll be a productive Spur for many years.
Hey, he's more athletic than North Americans Neal and Green. This is an underrated pick and I can already hear announcers saying that shit during games next season of how "the Spurs once again pull the wool over everyone's eyes and get a steal to plug in and become a vital role player in their system".
He can shave that neck beard in S.A., one would think/hope?
Should be fun watching him Manu and Boris in the second unit.
Bet his first points are a pump fake from 3 to a 16 ft jumpshot
CoJo/Marco/Manu/Boris/Matty
bring it :flag:
This guy is like Manu but with a nanosecond more patience. Should cut down the turnovers in big games from 8 to 3.
I really like this signing. Belinelli is a great shooter and he gives the Spurs an option that can score in the clutch.
i'm more than okay with the bellinelli signing...i'm sure he'll see the typical improvement that most shooters see when they come to SA and i was fairly impressed with his performance in the playoffs.
As a Chicagoan, I'm really glad about this deal. I think he is much more valuable to the Spurs than the Bulls, and will be more productive as well.
All he has to do is hit open shots, help on pick and roll defense by going for loose balls and again hitting open shots. Basically a taller international Gary Neal. There won't be much ball handling with him.
